Impact of poly chlorin.ted biphen.l (Aroclor 1254) an. vitamin.C on.an.ioxidan. system of rat ven.ral prostate

Aim: To evaluate the effect of polychlorin.ted biphen.ls (PCB) an. vitamin.C on.ven.ral prostatic an.ioxidan. system in.adult male rats. Methods: A group of 20 adult male rats were admin.stered ip Aroclor 1254 in.corn.oil at a dose of 2 mg·kg-1·day-1 for 30 days. Ten.con.rol rats were admin.stered on.y the vehicle. After 30 days the treated rats were divided at ran.om in.o 2 sub-groups of 10 an.mals each. On. sub-group received vitamin.C at a dose of 500 mg·kg-1·day-1 for 10 days. The other group was main.ain.d as Aroclor 1254 con.rol. Twen.y-four hours after the last treatmen. the rats were killed by decapitation. Ven.ral prostatic homogen.te was prepared an. used for the estimation.of en.ymatic an.ioxidan.s, in.ludin. superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) an. glutathion.-S-tran.ferase (GST) an. hydrogen.peroxide (H2O2), lipid peroxidation.(LPO) an. prostatic acid phosphatase. The serum levels of total T3, total T4, TSH, testosteron. an. estradiol were also assayed. Results: The body weight an. ven.ral prostatic weight were reduced in.PCB treated rats. The activities of SOD, CAT, GST an. acid phosphatase were decreased while the levels of H2O2 an. lipid peroxidation.were in.reased in.the ven.ral prostate of PCB treated rats. Admin.stration.of vitamin.C restored these parameters. Serum levels of thyroid hormon.s, estradiol an. testosteron. were decreased in.PCB treated an.mals. Admin.stration.of vitamin.C restored the thyroid hormon. levels. Con.lusion. PCB in.uces oxidative stress an. decreases the an.ioxidan. en.ymes in.the ven.ral prostate of adult male rats; the effects could be reversed by the admin.stration.of vitamin.C.

In.view of their higher cost however, their use is restricted to structures with smaller dimen.ion. such as pedestrian.walkways particularly where aggressive en.iron.en.al con.ition. are en.oun.ered such as in.chemical an. water-treatmen. plan.s. The keys to success of these structures lie in.the proper choice of the con.tituen. materials, man.facturin. method an. kn.wledge of the behavior of the structure un.er the con.ition. en.oun.ered. Kn.wledge of the mechan.cal behavior is particularly importan. in.this con.ext. An.in.estigation.was therefore con.ucted by the authors, in.partial fulfillmen. for the award of master of en.in.erin. scien.e degree of Lamar Un.versity to the first author un.er the supervision.of the secon. author [1], to study the respon.e to loadin. of a glass fiber rein.orced polyester composite structure made by the pultrusion.process by a reputed man.facturer. The structure chosen.for this study was a gratin., the details of which are shown.in.the paper. This type of structure is particularly useful for walkways. The experimen.al part of the in.estigation.con.isted of subjectin. the gratin. to three-poin. ben. test un.er differen. loadin. con.ition.. The load-deflection.curve for each case was obtain.d an. in.erpreted. On. gratin. was loaded up to failure an. the fractured zon. was examin.d usin. a scan.in. electron.microscope to in.erpret the microscopic failure features. 在90°C下,采用含有25g/L硫酸镍、20g/L次磷酸钠、35g/L柠檬酸钠、0～6g/L卤磷酸钙和15g/L硫酸铵的镀液(pH5.5),制备了基于卤磷酸钙的发光化学镍复合镀层。研究了镀液pH对复合镀层的沉积速率及卤磷酸钙含量的影响。采用硬度测量、磨损测试、腐蚀试验、紫外光谱、扫描电镜和X射线衍射对复合镀层进行了表征。在最佳卤磷酸钙质量浓度(4g/L)下所得的复合镀层含77.59%(质量分数)镍、7.58%(质量分数)磷和14.83%(质量分数)卤磷酸钙。由于卤磷酸钙是硬质粒子,随着其嵌入量的增多,复合镀层的硬度增大。在存在卤磷酸钙的条件下,化学镍复合镀层的耐磨和耐蚀性能均显著提高。

在由硫酸镍31g/L、次磷酸钠22g/L、乙醇酸30g/L、乙酸钠13g/L、二甲胺0.8g/L、全氟乙基碘化铵0.1g/L及重晶石(即硫酸钡)0～25g/L组成的稳定镀液中,采用化学镀的方法在低碳钢上制备了n.–P–BaSO4复合镀层。其表面形貌采用扫描电镜进行分析,耐蚀性以动电位极化及电化学阻抗谱测试。镍–磷合金基体中掺入硫酸钡,提高了化学镀层的显微硬度。相对于纯n.–P合金镀层,n.–P–BaSO4复合镀层具有更小的磨损率。硫酸钡颗粒的存在使得复合镀层的耐蚀性明显降低。
