Supercritical Fluid Extraction.(SFE) is emergin. as a powerful techn.que in.the extraction.of metal ion.. In.the presen. study, the extraction.of n.trates of uran.um an. thorium was carried out usin. supercritical carbon.dioxide (Sc-CO2) modified with various organ.phosphorous compoun.s such as dialkylalkyl phosphon.tes, trialkyl phosphates an. trialkyl phosphin. oxides in.the presen.e of co-solven.s such as methan.l, dichlormethan. an. n.hexan.. The in.luen.e of ligan. an. co-solven. on.the extraction.of the metal n.trates was studied in.detail. These studies have established that co-solven. plays an.importan. role in.the extraction.as well as fraction.tion.of uran.um an. thorium n.trates. Polar co-solven., methan.l provided faster extraction.without fraction.tion.whereas the n.n.polar solven., e.g. n.hexan. provided some fraction.tion.of metal n.trates though the extraction.kin.tics was slower.

Burn.up measuremen. on.an.irradiated mixed oxide (MOX) test fuel pellet was carried out through measuremen.s on.the dissolver solution.by HPLC-Thermal Ion.zation.Mass Spectrometric (TIMS) techn.que. The studies carried out usin. HPLC as well as TIMS for quan.ification.of burn.up value are described. While in.on. case, both the separation.an. determin.tion.of elemen.s of in.erest (U, Pu an. n.) were carried out by HPLC;in.an.ther case, TIMS techn.que was used to quan.ify them from the HPLC separated *** rapid separation.procedures developed in.our laboratory earlier were employed to isolate pure fraction. of the desired elemen.s. The in.ividual lan.han.de fission.products (La to Eu) were separated from each other usin. dyn.mic ion.exchan.e chromatographic techn.que whereas uran.um an. pluton.um were separated from each other usin. reversed phase chromatographic techn.que. The pure fraction. of U, Pu an. n. obtain.d after HPLC separation.procedure for “spiked” an. “un.piked” dissolver solution. were used in.TIMS measuremen.s for the first time in.our laboratory. In.TIMS an.lysis, isotopic abun.an.es of uran.um, pluton.um an. n.odymium fraction. obtain.d from HPLC separation.procedure on.an.“un.piked” fuel sample were measured. For the determin.tion.of U, Pu an. n. by isotopic dilution.mass spectrometric techn.que (IDMS), kn.wn.quan.ities of tracers en.iched in.238U, 240Pu an. 142n. were added to the pre-weighed dissolver solution.an. subjected to HPLC separation.procedures. The isotope ratios viz. 142n./(145n. +146n.), 238U/233U an. 240Pu/239Pu in.the pertin.n. “spiked” fraction. were subsequen.ly measured by TIMS. The spikes were pre-stan.ardized in.our laboratory employin. reverse isotopic dilution.techn.que again.t the stan.ard solution. available in.our laboratory (for 238U, 239Pu an. 142n., stan.ard solution. of 233U, 239Pu (of higher abun.an.e than.in.the sample) an. 150n. were employed as spikes). The burn.up values from duplicate spikin. experimen.s

Here we demon.trate the fabrication. electrochemical performan.e an. application.of an.asymmetric supercapacitor (AS) device con.tructed with ss-n.(OH)(2)/MWCn.s as positive electrode an. KOH activated hon.ycomb-like porous carbon.(K-PC) derived from ban.n. fibers as n.gative electrode. In.tially, the electrochemical performan.e of hydrothermally syn.hesized ss-n.(OH)(2)/MWCn.s n.n.composite an. K-PC was studied in.a three-electrode system usin. 1 M KOH. These materials exhibited a specific capacitan.e (Cs) of 1327 Fig an. 324 F/g respectively at a scan.rate of 10 mV/s. Further, the AS device i.e., ss-n.(OH)(2)/MWCn.s// K-PC in.1 M KOH solution. demon.trated a Cs of 156 F/g at scan.rate of 10 mV/s in.a broad cell voltage of 0-2.2 V. The device demon.trated a good rate capability by main.ain.n. a Cs of 59 F/g even.at high curren. den.ity (25 A/g). The device also offered high en.rgy den.ity of 63 Wh/kg with maximum power den.ity of 5.2 kW/kg. The AS device exhibited excellen. cycle life with 100% capacitan.e reten.ion.at 5000th cycle at a high curren. den.ity of 25 A/g. Two AS devices con.ected in.series were employed for powerin. a pair of LEDs of differen. colors an. also a min. fan. (C) 2016 Scien.e Press an.
