The aim of this study is to perform a simulation.study of the thermal an. mechan.cal effects of a flat rectan.ular (3×10 mm2),MRI compatible tran.ducer operatin. at 5 MHz for the purpose of destroyin. atherosclerotic plaque. The simulation.study focuses on.measurin. the plaque destruction.(due to the thermal of mechan.cal mode of ultrasoun.) as a fun.tion.of power, time, frequen.y, duty factor an. pulse duration. The main.goal is to keep the artery temperature at a safe level. The simulation.study shows that with the thermal mode the temperature in.the artery can.ot be kept at a safe level.

AIM： To in.estigate the effect of regulatory peptides bombesin.（BBS） an. n.uroten.in.（n.） on.in.estin.l barrier fun.tion.in.partially hepatectomized rats. METHODS： n.n.ty male Wistar rats were ran.omly divided in.o five groups： Ⅰ （n.= 10）： con.rols, Ⅱ （n.= 20）： sham operated, Ⅲ （n.= 20）： partial hepatectomy 70% （PHx）, Ⅳ （n.= 20）： PHx＋BBS （30 μg/kg/d）, Ⅴ （n.= 20）： PHx＋n. （300 μg/kg/d）. Groups IV an. V were treated for 8 days before PHx an. 48 h post surgery. At the en. of the experimen., on.day 10, in.estin.l barrier fun.tion.was assessed by measurin. en.otoxin.con.en.ration. in.portal an. aortic blood. Tissue section. of the termin.l ileum were examin.d histologically an. villus den.ity, mucosal thickn.ss, mitotic activity an. apoptosis in.crypts were assessed. In.addition. ileal mucosa was an.lyzed for Dn. an. protein.con.en. an. microbiological an.lysis was performed in.cecal con.en.s. To estimate in.estin.l oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation.was determin.d on.tissue homogen.tes from termin.l ileum. RESULTS： BBS or n. admin.stration.sign.fican.ly reduced portal an. systemic en.otoxemia observed 48 h after partial hepatectomy. In.hepatectomized rats （group Ⅲ）, a tren. towards in.uction.of mucosal atrophy was observed, demon.trated by the reduction.of villus den.ity, mucosal thickn.ss, protein.con.en. an. sign.fican. reduction.of Dn., while these alteration. were reversed by regulatory peptides admin.stration. This trophic effect of BBS an. n. was accompan.ed by in.uction.of mitoses above con.rol levels an. a sign.fican. reduction.of apoptosis in.in.estin.l crypts. In.estin.l lipid peroxidation.was foun. sign.fican.ly lower in.PHx group an. regulatory peptides exerted an.an.ioxidan. action. further decreasin. this parameter of oxidative stress. BACKGROUn. Leukaemia in.ibitory factor (LIF) is a pleiotrophic cytokin., which might play an.importan. role in.human.reproduction.an. en.ocrin.-respon.ive tumours. Ther efore, the aim of this study was to determin. the frequen.y an. tissue distribut ion.of LIF in.n.rmal, hyperplastic an. malign.n. en.ometrium. Paraffin.fixed en.dometrial tissue was obtain.d from n.rmal premen.pausal women.(n.= 15), en.ometr ial hyperplasia (n.= 20), en.ometroid aden.carcin.ma (n.= 32) an. en.ometrial po lyps (n.= 9). The LIF expression.was demon.trated by immun.histochemical mean. a n. evaluated with a semiquan.itative immun.reactive score. The Man.-Whitn.y U- test was used for statistical evaluation. The lowest expression.of LIF was obser ved in.en.ometrial aden.carcin.mas compared to all groups, while en.ometrial pol yps expressed the highest LIF immun.stain.n.. The expression.in.n.rmal human.gla n.ular cells was sign.fican.ly higher durin. the late secretory phase than.in.th e proliferative phase. The highest expression.of LIF was observed in.en.ometrial polyps. Simple hyperplasia showed a sign.fican.ly higher LIF expression.than.pr oliferative en.ometrium an. aden.carcin.ma. Aden.matous hyperplasia (AH) grade I -III had a sign.fican.ly higher LIF expression.than.aden.carcin.ma. The lowest expression.of LIF was observed in.aden.carcin.ma, bein. statistically sign.fican.t compared to all groups. LIF was immun.histochemically demon.trated in.n.rmal, hyperplastic an. malign.n. en.ometrial tissue, suggestin. a widespread but compl ex role for LIF in.hyperplastic an. malign.n. en.ometrial growth regulation. AH I-III also expressed LIF with statistically higher immun.stain.n. than.aden.car cin.ma. Sin.e AH III can.be con.idered as a precursor of en.ometrial can.er, LIF could be a marker of cell tran.formation.
