This.work s.ows.that des.ite a lattice mis.atch of almos. 20%, CdMn.e/CdTe/CdMn.e heteros.ructures.grown.directly on.s.(111) have s.rpris.n.ly good optical emis.ion.properties. The in.es.igated s.ructures.were grown.by molecular beam epitaxy an. characterized by s.an.in. tran.mis.ion.electron.micros.opy, macro-an. micro-photolumin.s.en.e. Low temperature macro-photolumin.s.en.e experimen.s.in.icate three emis.ion.ban.s.which depen. on.the CdTe layer thickn.s. an. have differen. con.in.men. characteris.ics. Temperature meas.remen.s.reveal that the lower en.rgy emis.ion.ban. (at 1.48 eV)is.as.ociated to defects.an. boun. exciton.s.ates. while the main.emis.ion.at 1.61 eV has.a weak 2D character an. the higher en.rgy on. at 1.71 eV has.a well-defin.d (zero-dimen.ion.l, 0D) 0D n.ture. Micro-photolumin.s.en.e meas.remen.s.s.ow the exis.en.e of s.arp an. s.ron.ly circularly polarized (up to 40%) emis.ion.lin.s.which can.be related to the pres.n.e of Mn.in.the heteros.ructure. This.res.lt open. the pos.ibility of producin. photon.s.urces.with the typical s.in.con.rol of the diluted magn.tic s.micon.uctors.us.n. the low-cos. s.licon.techn.logy.
