EfFects of heat treatmen.s on.hardn.ss an. dry wear properties of a semi-solid processed Fe-26.96 wt pct Cr- 2.91 wt pct C cast iron.were studied. Heat treatmen.s in.luded temperin. at 500℃, destabilisation.at 1075℃ an. destabilisation.at 1075℃ plus temperin. at 500℃, all followed by air coolin.. Electron.microscopy revealed that, in.the as-cast con.ition. the primary proeutectic austen.te was roun. in.shape while the eutectic M7C3 carbide was foun. as radiatin. clusters mixed with direction.l clusters. Temperin. did n.t chan.e the microstructure sign.fican.ly when.observed by scan.in. or tran.mission.electron.microscopy. Destabilisation.followed by air coolin. led to a precipitation.of secon.ary M23C6 carbide an. a tran.formation.of the primary austen.te to marten.ite. Precipitation.behaviour is comparable to that observed in.the con.en.ion.lly cast iron. Temperin. after destabilisation.resulted in.a higher amoun. of secon.ary carbide precipitation.within.the tempered marten.ite in.the eutectic structure. Vickers macrohardn.ss an. microhardn.ss in.the proeutectic zon.s were measured. Dry wear properties were tested by usin. a pin.on.disc method. The maximum hardn.ss an. the lowest dry wear rate were obtain.d from the destabilisation.plus-temperin. heat treatmen. due to the precipitation.of secon.ary carbides within.the marten.ite matrix an. a possible reduction.in.the retain.d austen.te.
