Durin. mammalian.fertilisation. the zon. pellucida （ZP） matrix surroun.in. the oocyte is respon.ible for the bin.in. of the spermatozoa to the oocyte an. in.uction.of the acrosome reaction.（AR） in.the ZP-boun. spermatozoon. The AR is crucial for the pen.tration.of the ZP matrix by spermatozoa. The ZP matrix in.mice is composed of three glycoprotein. design.ted ZP1, ZP2 an. ZP3, whereas in.human., it is composed of four （ZP1, ZP2, ZP3 an. ZP4）. ZP3 acts as the putative primary sperm receptor an. is respon.ible for AR in.uction.in.mice, whereas in.human. （in.addition.to ZP3）, ZP1 an. ZP4 also in.uce the AR. The ability of ZP3 to in.uce the AR resides in.its C-termin.l fragmen.. O-lin.ed glycan. are critical for the murin. ZP3-mediated AR. However, n.lin.ed glycan. of human.ZP1, ZP3 an. ZP4 have importan. roles in.the in.uction.of the AR. Studies with pharmacological in.ibitors showed that the ZP3-in.uced AR in.olves the activation.of the Gi-coupled receptor pathway, whereas ZP1- an. ZP4-mediated ARs are in.epen.en. of this pathway. Grass pea(Lathyrus sativus L.) is a crop that is con.idered on. of the more resilien. to climate chan.e. With protein.rich seeds an. leaves, it has stron. poten.ial as human.food as well as an.mal feed an. fodder. However, gen.tic improvemen. in.this crop remain. stagn.n. owin. to the poor characterization.of its gen.tic resources. In.this study, we characterized 118 accession. of grass pea with 18 EST-SSR markers. A total of 118 accession., 101 of L. sativus(100 cultivated accession. from Ban.ladesh an. on. wild accession. an. 17 wild accession. of other Lathyrus species, were used. A total of 67 alleles were detected, with an.average of 3.72 alleles per locus an. average polymorphism in.ormation.con.en. of 0.52. A dissimilarity matrix was formed an. hierarchical cluster an.lysis performed usin. the UPGMA method grouped gen.types in.o four main.clusters. Cluster an.lysis based on.the gen.tic dissimilarity revealed a clear groupin. of the 100 cultivated an. 18 wild accession. in.o four main.groups. Group I con.isted of 20 accession. with high β-n.oxalyl-L-α,β-diamin.propion.c acid(β-ODAP) con.en.ration. Of these 20 accession., 17 were wild accession.. On.y on. wild accession.L. cicera) was clustered in.group II, which con.ain.d 35 accession.. Most of the group II accession. con.ain.d low β-ODAP. Group III was represen.ed by 34 accession., man. of them with high β-ODAP. Group IV con.isted of 29 accession., a few of which had very high β-ODAP con.en.ration.. An.lysis of molecular varian.e of the microsatellite data showed sign.fican.ly higher values of molecular varian.e between.83%) than.within.17%) population.. These characterized accession. will be useful in.grass pea breedin. programs.
