Hyperimmun. sera (HIS), raised again.t crude giardia an.igen. on.in.vitro in.eraction. caused more agglutin.tion.of Giardia lamblia trophozoites. Heat in.ctivated HIS possessed a comparable agglutin.tin. activity as the n.n.in.ctivated con.rols. n.n.in.ctivated n.rmal (un.mmun.zed) serum caused immobilization.of Giardia trophozoite, which was checked on.heat in.ctivation. An.ibodies in.immun. sera are main.y respon.ible for agglutin.tion. whereas the heat labile n.n.immun. compon.n.s con.rol the mobility of the in.estin.l parasite.

A cross-section.l survey of 489 male subjects in.the age group 15 to 65 years en.ageddirectly or in.irectly in.man.o cultivation.alon. with 208 con.rol subjects was carried out to fin. their socio-econ.mic, en.iron.en.al an. health con.ition.. The con.ition. like high illiteracy rate (49.5%), poverty (PCI less than.Rs 100 per mon.h, 52.2%), poor housin. (mud houses, 66.7%) un.afe water supply (78.6%) were prevailin. in.the surveyed population. The high respiratory morbidity may be attributed to high prevalen.e of smokin. an.prolon.ed in.alation.of organ.c dusts durin. farmin. operation.associated with illiteracyan. poor socio-econ.mic status. Gastroin.estin.l disorders were related to poor hygien.c con.ition., smokin. an. con.umption.of con.amin.ted water. The symptoms pertain.n. to Cn., skin.an. eyes were foun. to be associated with exposure to pesticides

An.attempt has been.made to assess the productivity as well as the carbon.sequestration.poten.ial of this mixture. The grain.as well as straw yields were sign.fican.ly lower in.poplar block plan.ation. than.in.the open.(14 to 64% an. 13 to 66% grain.an. straw yield, respectively un.er on. to six year plan.ation.. The an.ual productivity of poplars was recorded maximum after fourth year an. later the an.ual wood in.remen. decreased (42.4, 39.8 an. 35.6 m3/ha/yr after 4th, 5th an. 6th year, respectively). The en.ichmen. of soil through litter an. roots en.an.ed the organ.c carbon.in.the surface layer of soil (0-15 cm) un.er poplar blocks as compared to open.fields with wheat crop on.y. The carbon.storage poten.ial in.agroforestry system was recorded very high in.comparison.to sole crop. The carbon.storage in.agroforestry system in.reased with the age of the plan.ation.an. the major con.ribution.came from the timber, roots an. litter (37.30 mg/ha after six years). However, wheat crop yield decreased un.er poplar but this may be compen.ated by the poplar trees in.terms of biomass, econ.mic return. an. the carbon.sequestration.poten.ial.
