Terrestrial in.asive plan. species con.in.e to wreak havoc on.a global econ.mic an. ecological scale. With the adven. of climate chan.e an. pen.in. future catastrophes, the spread of resilien. in.asive plan.s will on.y in.rease expon.n.ially. Here, the search con.in.es for a better un.erstan.in. of the below-groun. microbially driven.mechan.sms in.olved in.plan. in.asion.where other above-groun. mechan.sms have been.exhausted. Microbes govern.the world aroun. us an. in.eract with every livin. an. n.n.livin. facet of the world. To rein.orce the importan. un.erpin.in.s of the role of microorgan.sms in.plan. in.asion. a systematic review of recen.ly published articles was un.ertaken. Usin. the Scien.eDirect database, five (5) search queries were used to gen.rate 1221 research articles. After a two-step reduction.was made based on.relevan.e of the articles, a fin.l total of 59 articles were retrieved. An.addition.l 18 relevan. articles were also assessed through the PubMed database for an.lysis to accoun. for other in.asive plan.s. Thirty-seven.(37) in.asive species were in.estigated where soil physiochemical an. microbial commun.ty structure chan.es were most prevalen. (32% & 39% respectively) while en.an.ed mutualism, allelopathy an. pathogen.accumulation.were reported less (16%, 10% & 3% respectively). In.all in.asive species assessed, the impact on.plan. in.asion.an. in.bility of the n.tive plan.s to compete was due to specific microbial association. of the in.asive plan. or disruption.of the soil microbial commun.ty. This microbial commun.ty shift coin.ided with chan.es in.physiochemical properties of the soil an. the subsequen. n.gative soil feedback for n.tive plan.s. There is still an.expan.in. poten.ial for the use of biocon.rol agen.s to aid restoration.on.e the un.erpin.in.s of biotic resistan.e an. en.my release are un.erstood in.a microbial an. physiochemical con.ext. The active an. fun.tion.l microbial commun.ty structure of the in.asive plan. rhizosphere
