Inter-population variabilities in seed mass and germination of Panicum turgidum and Pennisetum divisum in the desert of kuwait

Understanding variability in seed germination among populations is essential for planning an effective germplasm collection for restoration and conservation *** knowledge of germination and dormancy patterns among populations of desert grasses is crucial for determining the potential of the species and populations to be used for restoration and conservation as well as forage *** in seed germination of Panicum turgidum Forssk and Pennisetum divisum(Gmel.)*** the desert of kuwait was evaluated in different populations in May *** of seed germination(25 seeds and 4 replicates)was conducted for each population at night/day temperatures of 15℃/20℃and 20℃/30℃under the following light condition:continuous darkness or 12 h/12 h light/*** showed that seed masses of both species strongly varied according to their seed provenances,and both species produced heavier seeds in population with a higher soil electrical *** germination percentage considerably varied between two species,and the variation in *** was greater(17%–49%)than that of ***(72%–93%).Germination percentage in *** was greater at high temperature(20℃/30℃)than at low temperature(15℃/20℃).However,temperature regimes had no effect on germination percentage of *** *** germination time of both species exhibited significant inter-population *** result is especially relevant to assure the selection of the best population of each species and the regeneration success of the *** this,inter-population variability also provides valuable information for enhancing our understanding of the mechanisms that regulate seed germination and how they might be related to seed provenance.

Ion Conduction in Superionic Glassy Electrolytes:An Overview

The various theoretical and experimental models for ion conduction mechanism of fast ion conducting （FIC） glass electrolytes have been reported in the present review paper. Some characterization techniques of FIC glasses are presented. The experimental methods for determination of some ion transport parameters viz ionic conductivity （σ）, ionic mobility （μ）, mobile ion concentration （n）, ionic drift velocity （Vd）, ionic transference number （tion） and activation energies of FIC glasses are explained. The solid state battery fabrication by using some FIC glasses is also reported.

Population structure and regeneration patterns of tree species in climate-sensitive subalpine forests of Indian western Himalaya

The population structure of tree species has been explored in order to elucidate regeneration potential of the subalpine forests of Indian western Himalaya. For this study, the subalpine forest area was divided into three strata, i.e., lower altitude （〈3000 m）; mid-altitude （3000-3200 m）; and high altitude （〉3200m）. Considering the major compositional attributes, an increase in altitude came with a significant decline in tree density and the total basal area for all the sites. However, no such clear trends were observed for recruits （i.e., seedlings and saplings）. Seedling density did not exhibit uniform patterns for sites and altitude strata. In general, overall seedling density was greater at the Pindari site compared to the Lata and Tungnath sites. By comparison, significant variation in seedling density along the altitude strata was recorded for the Tungnath and Pindari sites only. Likewise, sapling density patterns varied across the sites and altitude strata, and significant variation in sapling density along the altitude strata was recorded only for the Lata site. At the Pin- daft site, the continuous increase in sapling density along with increasing altitude was revealing. The Pindari forests of exhibited expanding population structure. In contrast, greater accumulation of individuals in the sapling class and sharp decline toward both higher tree classes and lower seedling classes was generally apparent for the Lata and Tungnath sites. This indicates that the replacement in tree size classes from sapling stage is not proportional and the population may decline in the long-term. Considerable variation in patterns of forest and dominant species popula- tion structure were evident across altitude strata. But in all cases irrespective of sites, we found growth at the high-altitude stratum, in the form of entire forests or dominant species. This trend deserves further investigation to explore its relevance under changing climate scenarios.

Effect of compressibility on bubbly cavitating flows

Cavitating bubbly flows can form in separated flows and shear layers leading to local regions high vapor void fraction,and these flows often exhibit periodic shedding of vaporous ***,the presence of a liquid re-entrant flow,driven by the kinematics of liquid flow stagnation,has been identified as an important mechanism leading to cavity ***,high local vapor void fractions can also result in a reduced mixture speed of sound and a possible supersonic *** recent findings on different geometries indicate that propagating bubbly shocks in these flows are a primary mechanism of flow *** this study,we discuss the effect of compressibility on four geometries,mainly in the generation of propagating bubbly shocks that can influence the cavitation shedding *** order to elucidate the differences and similarities of the observed cavitation dynamics,and the influence of compressibility,we report observations from a backward facing step,backward facing wedge,nACA0015 hydrofoil,and a bluff body with a wedge cross section.

A catalyst-free new polyol method synthesized hot-pressed Cu-doped Bi2S3 nanorods and their thermoelectric properties

This is the first report on the thermoelectric properties of a catalyst-free polyol method used to prepare stoichiometric Bi2-xCuxS3 samples, x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, via hot pressing. Various systematic approaches to arrive at in their stoichiometric compositions are explored precisely with introduction of excess precursor of S. X-ray diffraction data analysis using Rietveld refinement confirms a polyhedral orthorhombic crystal structure with a space group Pnma, in contrast to Pbnm reported earlier. Raman data further substantiates this. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirms the valence states of the constituent elements （Bi^3＋, Cu^2＋, and S^2-） and energy dispersive X-ray analysis corroborates their compositions. The particle sizes of the pure Bi2S3 nanoparticles were 20, 35, and 82 nm as determined from the Scherrer formula, atomic force microscopy, and dynamic light scattering, respectively. Their transmission electron microscopy image shows rod-like nanostructures elongated in the 〈010〉 direction with an average diameter of 23 nm and a length of several hundreds of nanometers. A 34% improvement in the thermoelectric figure of merit is observed for Bi.6Cu0.4S3 as compared to pure Bi2S3 at 300 k.

The Ohmically heated circular limiter tokamak ADITYA （R0 = 75 cm, a = 25 cm） has been upgraded to a tokamak named the ADITYA Upgrade （ADITYA-U） with an open divertor configuration with divertor plates. The main goal of ADITYA-U is to carry out dedicated experiments relevant for bigger fusion machines including ITER, such as the generation and control of runaway electrons, disruption prediction, and mitigation studies, along with an improvement in confinement with shaped plasma. The ADITYA tokamak was dismantled and the assembly of ADITYA-U was completed in March 2016. Integration of subsystems like data acquisition and remote operation along with plasma production and preliminary plasma characterization of ADITYA-U plasmas are presented in this paper.

Carbon Disulphide Induced Sensitivity Changes of Rat Anococcygeus Muscle to noradrenaline(nA)

The sensitivity of rat anococcygeus muscle to noradrenaline (nA) was reduced following carbon disulphide (CS2) pretreatment. Preparations incubated in excess Ca++ (4.2 mrnol-L-1) or Zero Ca++ (***-L-1) media showed decrease in sensitivity to nA. Reserpinization failed to induce supersensitivity to nA in any Mg+ + concentration in the media. Reserpinized tissue in Mg++ free media with EDTA showed increased sensitivity while decreased sensitivity and maximum response to nA in Mg+ + (1.2 mmol-L-1) and excess Mg+ + (3.6mmol-1 ') concentration of the medium. In the presence of EDTA, the inhibition observed with CS2 in excess Mg+ + (3.6m mol-L-1') medium was comparatively much less in both non-reserpinized and reserpinized preparations. In normal Ca++ and its deficient medium decrease in sensitivity to CS2 and the relevant maximum response to nA were observed. In excess Ca + +, the CS2 effect depressed corresponding to its maximal response to nA. Thus CS2 may be inhibiting responses to nA by interfering with Ca+ + utilization.

Current Vegetation Pattern along Glacial Landscape in Central (Garhwal) Himalaya, India

Current vegetation patterns, biodiversity and adaptation of plants were studied during 1998～2001 in glacial landscape of Chaurabari situated above kedarnath (30° 44′ n～ 79° 07′ E;3,000～ 6,000 m) in Central Himalaya. Landscape was identified into different zones on account of the vegetation status, glacial features, geomorphology and altitudes. Cold environment with heavy snowfall, frost hailstorm and dense frost characterizes the study *** of the soda rich feldspars indicates soda enrichment; orthoclase, microcline weathering and alternation would have contributed potash to the soil. The increasing severity of the environment as we ascend from timberline to snowline leads to progressive decline in the abundance and diversity of the plant species. The diversity of the higher plants decrease, while the diversity of microflora increase from alpine zone to snowline zone. Highly opulent and diverse flora with beautiful, delicate herbs occupy the alpine zone, but some specialized groups of the plants, particularly high energetic and cold resistant species reside in glacial environment. Asteraceae,Rananculaceae, Primulaceae, Rosaceae, Apiaceae and Ericaceae are the pioneer angiospermic families,while Anaphalis triplinervis, A. royleana,Androsacce sarmentosa, Cotoneaster rotundifolius,Lonicera myrtillus, Cassiope fastigiata, Gaultheria trichophglla and Erigeron multiradiatus are the pioneer species, which have invaded in glacial environment. Through its nature, alpine glacial ecotone can be seen easily due to environmental and edaphic differences.
