In coastal areas of our country,in spite of having excess rainfall(more than 3000 mm),groundwater become a rare commodity during *** of researchers have discussed the issues related to water scarcity of coastal areas where there is a huge pressure on environment due to increased population,tourism,agriculture and industrial *** depletion of groundwater is also reported in coastal districts due to continuous discharge of direct runoff and also through subterranean flow which is termed as Submarine Groundwater Discharges(SGD).Large quantity of contaminants enter the ocean system through *** necessitated a detailed investigation to understand the hydrological processes involved and the source of *** present investigation is an attempt to make quantitative and qualitative assessment of SGD based on hydrological,hydrogeological and hydrochemical ***,water balance components were evaluated based on hydrological and hydrogeological *** parameters were also evaluated to understand the impact of seawater intrusion in pre and post-monsoon of *** revealed that,there are signatures of considerable quantity of submarine groundwater discharge in parts of Honnavara,Kumta,Ankola and Karwar *** influence of seawater in coastal aquifers is quite rare all along the coast of Uttara kannada district which is attributed to high groundwater recharge(15-20%)occurring in catchment areas.

In the recent decade,different researchers have performed hardware implementation for different applications covering various areas of *** this research paper,a novel analog design and implementation of different steps of fuzzy systems with current differencing buffered amplifier(CDBA)are proposed with a compact structure that can be used in many signal processing *** proposed circuits are capable of wide input current range,simple structure,and are highly *** electrical parameters were compared for the proposed fuzzy system when using different membership *** novelty of this paper lies in the electronic implementation of different steps for realizing a fuzzy system using current *** the power supply voltage of CDBA is 2V,it results in 155mW,power dissipation;4.615KΩ,input resistance;366KΩ,output resistances;and 189.09 dB,common-mode rejection ratio.A 155.519 dB,voltage gain,and 0.76V/μs,the slew rate is analyzed when the power supply voltage of CDBAis *** fuzzy system is realized in 20nm CMOS technology and investigated with an output signal of high precision and high speed,illustrating that it is suitable for realtime *** this research paper,a consequence of feedback resistance on the adder circuit and the defuzzified circuit is also analyzed and the best results are obtained using 100K *** structure has a low hardware complexity leading to a low delay and a rather high quality.

Engineered magnetic nanosystems exhibit attractive options for implementing unique diagnostic options and therapeutic solutions in biomedical applications. Here we report a facile, thermo-free and aqueous synthetic method to prepare ascorbic acid-stabilized iron-platinum nanoparticles. The effects of reducing agent, pH and sequence of precursor addition are investigated, and optimized reaction condition is identified to obtain a unique iron-platinum （Pt-FePt） nanosystems. The multifunctionality of the developed nanosystem has been realized by catalytic efficiency of platinum for therapeutic application and superparamagnetic property of FePt for magnetic resonance imaging contrast enhancement. Moreover, the multifunctional imaging and therapeutic activities have been achieved at physiological pH. The developed multifunctional nanoparticles are monodisperse with uniform morphology as well as stable in solution and non-toxic.

Magnetorheological(MR)fluid damper which allows the damping characteristics of the damper to be continuously controlled by varying the magnetic field is extensively used in metal cutting to suppress tool *** though magnetorhelogical fluids have been successful in reducing tool vibration,durability of magnetorhelogical fluids remains a major challenge in engineering *** effect on the performance of magnetorhelogical fluids over a prolonged period of time is a major *** this paper,an attempt was made to reduce temperature and to improve viscosity of magnetorhelogical fluids by infusing nanoparticles along with MR *** oxide and titanium oxide nanoparticles of 0.1%and 0.2%concentration by weight were considered and experimental tests were conducted to study the influence of nanoparticles on the performance of magnetorheological *** the experimental results it was observed that the presence of nanoparticles in MR fluid reduces temperature and increases the viscosity of MR fluid thereby increasing the cutting performance during turning of hardened AISI 4340 steel.

Risk factors for mortality in children with diabetic keto acidosis from developing countries

Diabetic keto acidosis(DKA) is the major cause for mortality in children with Diabetes mellitus(DM). With increasing incidence of type 1 DM worldwide, there is an absolute increase of DM among children between 0-14 year age group and overall incidence among less than 30 years remain the same. This shift towards younger age group is more of concern especially in developing countries where mortality in DKA is alarmingly high. Prior to the era of insulin, DKA was associated with 100% mortality and subsequently mortality rates have come down and is now, 0.15%-0.31% in developed countries. However the scenario in developing countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are very different and mortality is still high in children with DKA. Prospective studies on DKA in children are lacking in developing countries. Literature on DKA related mortality are based on retrospective studies and are very recent from countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. There exists an urgent need to understand the differences between developed and developing countries with respect to mortality rates and factors associated with increased mortality in children with DKA. Higher mortality rates, increased incidence of cerebral edema, sepsis, shock and renal failure have been identified among DKA in children from developing *** cause for all these complications and increased mortality in DKA could be delayed diagnosis in children from developing countries. This necessitates creating awareness among parents, public and physicians by health education to identify symptoms of DM/DKA in children, in order to decrease mortality in DKA. Based on past experience in Parma, Italy it is possible to prevent occurrence of DKA both in new onset DM and in children with established DM, by simple interventions to increase awareness among public and physicians.

BACKGROUnD Mitral regurgitation(MR)is commonly seen in patients with severe aortic stenosis(AS)undergoing aortic valve replacement(AVR).But the long-term implications of MR in AS are *** To investigate MR’s impact on survival of patients undergoing surgical AVR for severe *** Of the 740 consecutive patients with severe AS evaluated between 1993 and 2003,287 underwent AVR forming the study *** were followed up to death or till the end of *** reviews were performed for clinical,echocardiographic,and therapeutic *** was graded on a 1-4 *** data was obtained from chart review and the Social Security Death *** was analyzed as a function of degree of *** The mean age of the severe AS patients who had AVR(n=287)was 72±13 years,46%*** up to 26 years of follow up,there were 201(70%)deaths,giving deep insights into the determinants of survival of severe AS who had *** 5,10 and 20 years survival rates were 75%,45%and 25%*** of MR was associated with higher mortality in a graded fashion(P=0.0003).MR was significantly associated with lower left ventricular(LV)ejection fraction and larger LV *** of MR on mortality was partially mediated through lower LV ejection fraction and larger LV *** Cox regression,MR,lower ejection fraction(EF)and larger LV end-systolic dimension were independent predictors of higher mortality(χ^(2)=33.2).COnCLUSIOn Presence of greater than 2+MR in patients with severe AS is independently associated with reduced survival in surgically managed patients,an effect incremental to reduced EF and larger LV *** suggest that aortic valve intervention should be considered in severe AS patients when>2+MR occurs irrespective of EF or symptoms.

The three-body abrasive wear behaviour of carbon fabric reinforced epoxy (C-E) composites has been evaluated by the addition of graphite (G) particles as a secondary reinforcement. Three-body abrasive wear test were conducted using dry sand rubber wheel abrasion tester as per ASTM G-65 with three process parameters load, abrading distance and filler content. To assess the abrasive wear behaviour of particulate filled C-E composites satisfying multiple performance measure, grey-based Taguchi approach has been adopted. The experiments were designed according to Taguchi’s orthogonal array (L?27). The grey relational analysis was applied to convert a multi response process optimization to a single response. Using analysis of variance, significant contributions of process parameters have been determined. The results indicate that the addition of graphite particles into C-E composite increased the wear resistance considerably. It was observed that highest wear resistance of C-E composite was achieved with incorporation of 10 wt. % of graphite filler. Results indicate that the filler content and grit size of abrasive paper were found to be the most significant factor which has influence on the abrasive wear of C-E composite. The worn surface features were examined through scanning electron microscope to probe the wear mechanism.
