Management of diabolical diabetes mellitus and periodontitis nexus: Are we doing enough?

Periodontitis is the commonest oral disease affecting population worldwide. This disease is notorious for the devastation of tooth supporting structures, ensuing in the loss of dentition. The etiology for this disease is bacterial biofilm, which accumulates on the teeth as dental plaque. In addition to the biofilm microorganisms, other factors such as environmental, systemic and genetic are also responsible in progression of periodontitis. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is metabolic disorder which has an impact on the global health. DM plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. Periodontitis is declared as the “sixth” major complication of DM. Evidence based literature has depicted an enhanced incidence and severity of periodontitis in subjects with DM. A “two way” relationship has been purported between periodontitis and DM. Mutual management of both conditions is necessary. Periodontal therapy (PT) may assist to diminish the progression of DM and improve glycemic control. Various advanced technological facilities may be utilized for the purpose of patient education and disease management. The present paper clarifies the etio-pathogenesis of periodontitis, establishing it as a complication of DM and elaborating the various mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis. The role of PT in amelioration of DM and application of digital communication will be discussed. Overall, it is judicious to create an increased patient cognizance of the periodontitis-DM relationship. Conjunctive efforts must be undertaken by the medical and oral health care professionals for the management of periodontitis affected DM patients.

In present work,liquid phase esterification of acetic acid with ethanol over dodecatungestophosphoric acid （DTPA） supported on K10 montmorillonite was systematically studied and optimization of process parameters was carried *** 20% m/m DTPA/K10 was found to be the optimum catalyst with 90% acetic acid conversion and 100% ethyl acetate *** study was also explored to see the feasibility of 20% m/m DTPA/K10 as a catalyst for the alkylation of acetic acid with other alcohols like methanol,iso-propanol and *** 20% m/m DTPA/K10 has shown increased activity with the increase in carbon number,at the same alcohol *** results are novel.

The present work aimed to develop a novel strategy to bioremediate the petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants in the *** tolerant bacterium was isolated from Dagang oilfield,China and identified as Corynebacterium variabile HRJ4 based on 16 S r RnA gene sequence *** bacterium had a high salt tolerant capability and biochar was developed as carrier for the *** bacteria with biochar were most effective in degradation of n-alkanes（C16,C18,C19,C26,C28） and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons（nAP,PYR） *** result demonstrated that immobilization of *** HRJ4 with biochar showed higher degradation of total petroleum hydrocarbons（THPs） up to 78.9%after 7-day of incubation as compared to the free leaving *** approach of this study will be helpful in clean-up of petroleum-contamination in the environments through bioremediation process using eco-friendly and cost effective materials like biochar.

Alkaline earth metal （Mg,Ca,Sr and Ba）-doped Mo-V-Sb-O x catalysts,prepared by a dry-up method,have been investigated for their catalytic performance in the oxidation of propane under different reaction *** catalysts have been characterized by n2 adsorption-desorption,temperature-programmed desorption （TPD） of nH3,SEM and *** of water vapor on the catalytic performance,particularly on the selectivities to acetic acid and acrylic acid,has also been *** selectivity to acrylic acid was improved significantly by the doping of alkaline earth metals to Mo-V-Sb-O x *** surface acidic sites of the catalyst decreased with the doping of the catalyst with alkaline earth metals,which ultimately was found to be beneficial for obtaining high selectivity to acrylic *** catalytic activity and product selectivities were found to be influenced by the reaction temperature,C3H8/O2 ratio and space velocity.A significant improvement in the selectivity to acrylic acid has also been observed by the addition of water vapor in the feed of propane and oxygen in the oxidation of propane.

Optimal Irrigation Planning and Operation of Multi Objective Reservoir Using Fuzzy Logic

In the present study the MOFLP models have been developed for the optimal cropping pattern planning which maximizes the four objectives such as net Benefits (nB), Crop Production (CP), Employment Generation (EG) and Manure Utilization (MU) under conflicting situation and also, for maximization of Releases for Irrigation (RI) and Releases for Power (RP) simultaneously under uncertainty by considering the fuzziness in the objective functions. The developed models have been applied using the LInGO 13 (Language for Interactive General Optimization) optimization software to the case study of the Jayakwadi Project Stage-II across Sindhphana River, in the State of Maharashtra India. The various constraints have been taken into consideration like sowing area, affinity to crop, labour availability, manure availability, water availability for optimal cropping pattern planning. Similarly constraints to find the optimal reservoir operating policy are releases for power and turbine capacity, irrigation demand, reservoir storage capacity, reservoir storage continuity. The level of satisfaction for a compromised solution of optimal cropping pattern planning for four conflicting objectives under fuzzy environment is worked out to be λ = 0.68. The MOFLP compromised solution provides nB = 1088.46 (Million Rupees), CP = 241003 (Tons), EG = 23.13 (Million Man days) and MU = 111454.70 (Tons) respectively. The compromised solution for optimal operation of multi objective reservoir yields the level of satisfaction (λ) = 0.533 for maximizing the releases for irrigation and power simultaneously by satisfying the constraint of the system under consideration. The compromised solution provides the optimal releases, i.e. RI = 348.670 Mm3 and RP = 234.285 Mm3 respectively.

nutriology relies on advanced analytical tools to study the molecular compositions of food and provide key information on sample quality/safety. Small nutrients detection is challenging due to the high diversity and broad dynamic range of molecules in food samples, and a further issue is to track low abundance toxins. Herein, we developed a novel plasmonic matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry(MALDI MS)approach to detect small nutrients and toxins in complex biological emulsion samples. Silver nanoshells(SiO_2@-Ag) with optimized structures were used as matrices andachieved direct analysis of ~ 6 n L of human breast milk without any enrichment or separation. We performed identification and quantitation of small nutrients and toxins with limit-of-detection down to 0.4 pmol(for melamine) and reaction time shortened to minutes, which is superior to the conventional biochemical method currently in use. The developed approach contributes to the near-future application of MALDI MS in a broad field and personalized design of plasmonic materials for real-case bio-analysis.

Traditional Devadasi system based sex work (dhandha) is practiced inIndia. The communities that practice this system are affected severely by AIDS epidemic. Through this paper we present the views of gharwalis (brothel madams) regarding the impact of AIDS on the traditional system (Devadasi system) of initiating girls as sex workers (Devadasis) and on the practice of sex work (dhandha) associated with that system. Qualitative in-depth interviews were conducted with twelve gharwalis as a follow-up of a cohort study, which investigated the patterns and determinants of sex worker migration from northern Karnataka to southern Maharashtra, in India. According to gharwalis, the disease (AIDS) consequences;death, fear and stigma affected dhandha operations, changed the attitude of the Devadasi community against the practice of dhandha and the Devadasi system, besides, influenced the community to take actions to stop the practice of dhandha and the Devadasi system. The findings suggest that the interplay between the disease consequences and the community’s response to those consequences contribute to transition dhandha and the Devadasi system. We discuss our findings, describe the transition and the consequent risk enhancing conditions. Finally, highlight the need to address these conditions to reduce Devadasis risk and vulnerability to HIV infection.

The objective of the present study is to develop the irrigation planning model and to apply the same in the form of Two-Phase Multi Objective Fuzzy Linear Programming (TPMOFLP) approach for crop planning in command area of Jayakwadi Project Stage I, Maharashtra State, India. The development of TPMOFLP model is on the basis of various Linear Programming (LP) models and Multi Objective Fuzzy Linear Programming (MOFLP) models, these models have been applied for maximization of the net Benefits (nB), Crop production (CP), Employment Generation (EG) and Manure Utilization (MU) respectively. The significant increase in the value of level of satisfaction (λ) has been found from 0.58 to 0.65 by using the TPMOFLP approach as compare to that of MOFLP model based on maxmin approach. The two-phase approach solution provides nB = 1503.56 Million Rupees, CP = 335729.30 Tons, EG = 29.74 Million Man days and MU = 160233.70 Tons respectively. The proposed model will be helpful for the Decision Maker (DM) to take a decision under conflicting situation while planning for different conflicting objectives simultaneously and has potential to find out an integrated irrigation planning with prime consideration for economic, social and environmental issue.
