The aims of this study were to investigate the food safety knowledge and practices of food handlers and to assess the sanitary conditions of attieke production units in the South of C?te d’Ivoire. A cross-sectional study was conducted during 4 months in 2012 in 7 localities and data were collected using questionnaire and observation checklist and microbiological analysis of hands. A total of 775 attieke production units were involved in this survey. Seventy-one percent (71%) were located on public domains and only 70 production units (9%) used septic tank as a mean of final deposal for liquid waste. Hygiene conditions and practices of food handlers in attieke production units were inadequate. The presence of specific microorganisms such as Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter agglomerans, Citrobacter youngae, Klebsiella oxytoca and Citrobacter freundi was indicative of a degree of ignorance on the part of food handlers towards proper hygienic practices.

In most developing countries, particularly in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa, corn cobs are considered as waste polluting the environment during the harvest period of this cereal. In order to valorize this agricultural waste, high-performance, inexpensive and low-energy consumption magnetic bioadsorbents were prepared from corn cobs. The chemically activated raw corn cob was magnetized by coating the surface with magnetite nanoparticles. The prepared biosorbents were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM associated with EDX, HR-TEM, TG analysis, BET surface area analysis and XPS. The maximum specific surface area of 35.22 m2/g was reached. An attempt to use of these magnetic biosorbents for the removal of heavy metal like Cr(VI) from aqueous solution was envisaged.

Aspects of Computer-Aided Tomography Scan (Cat) in the Child Intracranial Tumors in Abidjan: Report of 30 Cases

Aim: The aim of this study was to specify the various computed tomography aspects of the intracranial tumors of the child. Equipment and method: It was about a retrospective study carried out in 30 children (15 boys and 15 girls) aged from 3 to 15 years (medium age 8.3 years). All the patients were explored with the computed tomography scan. Sixteen lesions profited from an anatomopathologic analysis for which an anatomoradiologic correlation was obtained. Results: The scanner objectified a cerebral tumor in all the cases. Topography was supratentorial in 19 cases (64%) and 11 cases (36%) were under tentorial. Almost all the tumors were single (96% of the cases) and were well limited (80% of the cases). The tumors were mixed in 50% of the cases with the presence of calcification in 66% of the cases. They were characterized by their large size (3 at 8 cm) in 86% of the cases. The etiologies of the tumors were dominated by glioma in 50% of the cases and as a whole, the radio-histological correlation was good (87.5%). Conclusion: Glial tumors are most frequent in the child. Computer-aided tomography scan represents here the focus of intracranial tumors diagnosis in the child. It must be carried out as a clinical suspicion to improve the diagnosis of these tumors.

How Referred Patients Influence Cesarean Sections Rate Pattern: Analysis according to the Robson Classification

Objective: To improve the practice of cesarean section by analyzing the cesarean section according to Robson’s classification. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study carried out at the University Hospital of Cocody. It covered the Cesarean sections performed during the year 2015 and ranked according to the 10 groups of Robson. Results: The overall Cesarean section rate in 2015 was 42.8% (3100 cesarean sections for 7229 deliveries). Group 1 was the largest contributor to overall Cesarean section with a rate of 20.5% followed by Group 3 (18.6%), Group 5 (16.4%) and Group 10 (12.2%), unlike other data in the literature where groups were in descending order Groups 5, 1, 3. This difference was driven by medical evacuations and our working conditions. Conclusion: The Cesarean section rate is constantly increasing in our department. Referred patients played a huge role in the distribution of C-section along the Robson’s 10 groups classification.

Industrial Control Systems (ICS) or SCADA networks are increasingly targeted by cyber-attacks as their architectures shifted from proprietary hardware, software and protocols to standard and open sources ones. Furthermore, these systems which used to be isolated are now interconnected to corporate networks and to the Internet. Among the countermeasures to mitigate the threats, anomaly detection systems play an important role as they can help detect even unknown attacks. Deep learning which has gained a great attention in the last few years due to excellent results in image, video and natural language processing is being used for anomaly detection in information security, particularly in SCADA networks. The salient features of the data from SCADA networks are learnt as hierarchical representation using deep architectures, and those learnt features are used to classify the data into normal or anomalous ones. This article is a review of various architectures such as Convolutional neural network (Cnn), Recurrent neural network (Rnn), Stacked Autoencoder (SAE), Long Short Term Memory (LSTM), or a combination of those architectures, for anomaly detection purpose in SCADA networks.

Infectious Pathology of the Scrotum in Abidjan: Ultrasound Features of 80 Cases

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the epidemiological-clinical profile of patients with scrotal infectious pathology in Abidjan and describe the ultrasound features of this scrotal infectious pathology. Methods: This was a prospective study of 80 cases of scrotal infectious pathology objectified by ultrasound at Yopougon University Hospital from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2015. Ultrasounds were performed using a high-frequency linear probe in B and Color Doppler modes by senior radiologists. The epidemiological-clinical data were recorded from the ultrasound request form and the interrogation of the patient. Results: The average age was 23 years with extreme ranging from 16 to 40 years. Soldiers were the most concerned (40%) followed by students (30%). The painful large bursa was the quasi constant presenting feature (95% of cases) and fever was associated in less than half of the cases (45% of cases). The scrotal involvement was most often unilateral (85% of cases) and the left side was involved in 70% of the cases. Epididymitis was the most frequent pathology (60%) followed by orchiepididymitis (30%) and orchitis (10%). The most commonly encountered accompanying ultrasound findings were envelope thickening (100%), intravaginal fluid effusion (60%), and Doppler Hypervascularization (30%). Conclusion: In Abidjan Scrotal infectious pathology is most often encountered among young soldiers or students most often with a ± febrile large bursa. The most common pathology is left unilateral epididymitis.

Predictors of Direct-Acting Antivirals Failure in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C Virus in Ivory Coast: About 5 Cases

Context and Aim: Direct-acting antivirals are the therapeutic revolution in the management of viral hepatitis C, but often with a few cases of failure. The aim of this study was to identify factors that may be implicated in the failure of direct-acting antiviral therapy in patients with hepatitis C virus in Ivory Coast. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study with a retrospective compendium of data from the year 2016 to the year 2018. This study included all patients with chronic viral hepatitis C, patients naive to antiviral treatment, or pre-treated patients in whom a failure to treatment with direct-acting antiviral has been diagnosed. Results: During the study period, 5 patients out of 14 cases of therapeutic failure were included, i.e. 35.71%. Most of the patients were over 50 years (4 out of 5) and predominantly female (3 out of 5). High blood pressure was the most common comorbidity (3 out of 5 patients). Genotype 1 was found in 4 patients versus 1 case of genotype 2. none of the patients had hepatitis B or HIV coinfection. A viral load > 6log was found in 4 patients at baseline. All our patients had hepatic cytolysis. Two of them were cirrhotic. All 4 cases of genotype 1 benefited from the combination sofosbuvir + ledipasvir for 12 weeks and the case of genotype 2 from the combination sofosbuvir + ribavirin for 24 weeks. The resistance mutations were observed mainly on the sequencing of nS5A at the Y93H, L31M, 28L, 30T, 31V, 58S and 93H genes and a case of mutation on the n3 gene sequencing. Conclusion: Age > 50 years, comorbidities (high blood pressure), polymedication, female gender, genotype 1b, viremia > 6log, and cytolysis were the profile of patients with treatment of HCV by direct-acting antiviral failure.

Influence of nitrogen-Potassium Fertilizers on the Growth and the Productivity Parameters of Plantain Banana PITA 3, FHIA 21 and CORnE 1

This study was undertaken to measure the impact of fertilizers (nitrogen-potassium) on the growth and the development of plantain banana. Different doses of fertilizers (T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6) were applied to two hybrid varieties (PITA 3 and FHIA 21) and a traditional variety (CORnE 1) on an experimental split plot plan with a planting density of 2500 plants per hectare. Results showed that fertilizers improve parameters of plantain than control (T1). T6 with high potassium content (240 kg·ha−1 n and 987 kg·ha−1 K) improved the growth (35.72 ± 0.95 cm·month−1) and the widening (9.56 ± 0.17 cm·month−1) of PITA 3, and performed FHIA 21 agronomic parameters by reducing the length of the production cycle and increased the length of fruits. T2 treatment improved FHIA 21 agronomic and yield parameters. Also, the weight of CORnE 1 regimens (9.00 ± 0.67 kg) and fruits (296.59 ± 4.50 g), the length (33.37 ± 0.31 cm) and the circumference (14.73 ± 0.31 cm) increased with T2. T4 induced shorter production cycle of PITA 3 (390.40 ± 0.67 cm·month−1), improved PITA3 regimens weight (10.33 ± 0.44 kg) and the number of hands by regimen (6.00 ± 0.00) of FHIA 21. T3 with weak nitrogen content (120 kg·ha−1 n and 658 kg·ha−1 K) improved the characteristics of PITA 3 fruit

Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) is one of the most commonly diagnosed gastrointestinal conditions. It represents a significant healthcare burden and remains a clinical challenge. Over the years IBS has been described from a variety of different perspectives; from a strict illness of the gastrointestinal tract(medical model) to a more complex multi-symptomatic disorder of the brain-gut axis(biopsychosocial/psychosomatic model). In this article we present aspects of the pathophysiology and the non-pharmacological treatment of IBS based on current knowledge. Effects of conditioned stress and/or traumatic influences on the emotional system(top-down) as well as effects on the intestine through stressors,infection,inflammation,food and dysbiosis(bottom-up) can affect braingut communication and result in dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system(AnS),playing an important role in the pathophysiology of IBS. Conditioned stress together with dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system and the emotional system may involve reactions in which the distress inside the body is not recognized due to low body awareness. This may explain why patients have difficulty identifying their symptoms despite dysfunction in muscle tension,movement patterns,and posture and biochemical functions in addition to gastrointestinal symptoms. IBS shares many features with other idiopathic conditions,such as fibromyalgia,chronic fatigue syndrome and somatoform disorders. The key to effective treatment is a thorough examination,including a gastroenterological examination to exclude other diseases along with an assessment of body awareness by a body-mind therapist. The literature suggests that early interdisciplinary diagnostic cooperation between gastroenterologists and body-mind therapists is necessary. Re-establishing balance in the AnS is an important component of IBS treatment. This article discusses the current knowledge of body-mind treatment,addressing the topic from a practical point of view
