Cobalt phosphide （COP） nanoparticles which were uniformly embedded in N-doped C nanosheets （CNSs） were fabricated via the simple one-step calcination of a Co-based metal-organic framework （MOF） and red P and exhibited a high capacity, fast kinetics, and a long cycle life. This CoP/CNS composite contained small CoP particles （approximately 11.3 nm） and P-C bonds. When its electrochemical properties were evaluated by testing CoP/Na coin cells, the composite delivered a Na-storage capacity of 598 mAh·g-1 at 0.1 A·g-1 according to the total mass of the composite, which means that the capacity of pure CoP reached 831 mAh·g-1 The composite also exhibited a high rate capability and long-term cyclability （174 mAh·g-1 at 20 A·g-1 and 98.5% capacity retention after 900 cycles at 1 A·g-1）, which are commonly attributed to robust P-C bonding and highly conductive CNSs. When the reaction mechanism of the CoP/CNS composite was investigated, a conversion reaction expressed as CoP ＋ 3Na＋＋ 3e＋＋ Co ＋ Na3P was observed. The outstanding Na-storage properties of the CoP/CNS composite may suggest a new strategy for developing high-performance anode materials for Na-ion batteries.

The CrN and Cr-Al-Si-N films were deposited on Si wafer and SUS 304 substrates by a hybrid coating system with high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) and a DC pulse sputtering using Cr and AlSi targets under N2/Ar *** varying the sputtering current of the AlSi target in the range of 0-2.5 A,both the Al and Si contents in the films increased gradually from 0 to 19.1% and 11.1% (mole fraction),*** influences of the AlSi cathode DC pulse current on the microstructure,phase constituents,mechanical properties,and oxidation behaviors of the Cr-Al-Si-N films were investigated *** results indicate that the as-deposited Cr-Al-Si-N films possess the typical nanocomposite structure,namely the face centered cubic (Cr,Al)N nano-crystallites are embedded in the amorphous Si3N4 *** increasing the Al and Si contents,the hardness of the film first increases from 20.8 GPa for the CrN film to the peak value of 29.4 GPa for the Cr0.23Al0.14Si0.07 N film,and then decreases *** the meanwhile,the Cr0.23Al0.14Si0.07N film also possesses excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance that is much better than that of the CrN film at 900 or 1000 °C.

In this study, a series of numerical analyses was performed in order to evaluate the performance of full-scale closed-loop vertical ground heat exchangers constructed in Wonju, South Korea. The circulating HDPE pipe, borehole and surrounding ground formation were modeled using FLUENT, a finite-volume method (FVM) program, for analyzing the heat transfer process of the ground heat exchanger system. Two user-defined functions (UDFs) accounting for the difference in the temperature of the circulating inflow and outflow fluid and the variation of ground temperature with depth were adopted in the FLUENT modeling. The thermal conductivities of grouts (cement vs. bentonite) measured in laboratory were used as input values in the numerical analyses to compare the thermal efficiency of the cement and bentonite grouts used for installing the closed-loop vertical ground heat exchanger. A series of numerical analyses was carried out to simulate in-situ thermal response tests performed in the construction site. From the comparison between the in-situ thermal response test results and numerical simulations, the average thermal conductivity of the ground formation in the construction site is back-calculated as approximately 4 W/mK. This value can be used in evaluating the long-term performance of the closed-loop vertical ground heat ex changer.

Ice krill is the keystone species in the neritic ecosystem in the Southern Ocean, where it replaces the more oceanic Antarctic krill. It is essential to understand the variation of target strength （TS in dB re l m^2） with the different body size to accurately estimate ice krill stocks. However, there is comparatively little knowledge of the acoustic backscatter of ice krill. The TS of individual, formalin-preserved, tethered ice krill was measured in a freshwater test tank at 38, 120, and 200 kHz with a calibrated split-beam echo sounder system. Mean TS was obtained from 21 individual ice krill with a broad range of body lengths （L： 13-36 iron）. The length （L, mm） to wet weight （W; mg） relationship for ice krill was 11/=0.001 21g^103~L35s （R2=0.96）. The mean TS-to-length relationship were TS38kHz=-177.4＋57log10（L）, （R^2=0.86）; TS120kHz= -129.9＋31.561ogf0（L）, （R2=0.87）; and TS200kHz=-117.6＋24.661ogre（L）, （R2=0.84）. Empirical estimates of the relationship between the TS and body length of ice krill were established at 38, 120, and 200 kHz and compared with predictions obtained from both the linear regression model of Greene et al. （1991） and the Stochastic Distorted Wave Born Approximation （SDWBA） model. This result might be applied to improve acoustic detection and density estimation of ice krill in the Southern Ocean. Further comparative studies are needed with in situ target strength including various body lengths of ice krill.

Photo-protective functions were investigated in phytoplankton assemblages at Kongsfjorden, Svalbard in spring, using their UV-absorbing compounds （mycosporine-like amino acids （MAAs））, xanthophyllpigments （diadinoxanthin （DD） and diatoxanthin （DT）） and〈beta〉-dimethylsulphoniopropionate （〈beta〉-DMSP）. The dominant phytoplankton species in the inner bay were dominated by Phaeocystis spp. and nanoflagellates, while the offshore waters were dominated by Thalassiosira spp. In the inner bay, UV- absorbing compounds and xanthophyll pigments exhibited higher ratios of MAA to chlorophyll a （MAA：chl a ratio）, and both DD and DT to chlorophyll a （DD：chl a ratio and DT：chl a ratio）, respectively. Thus, the photoprotective-pigrnents such as DD and DT appear to complement MAAs in the natural phytoplankton assemblage. However, the ratio of 〈beta〉-DMSP to chlorophyll a （〈beta〉-DMSP：chl a ratio） did not show a distinct spatial distribution according to environmental factors or interspecies differences. In this study, we found that photoprotective compounds occurred in a manner dependent on the phytoplankton species composition in Kongsfjorden Bay, where Phaeocystis is the dominant species.

Application launch performance is of great importance to system platform developers and vendors as it greatly affects the degree of users＇ satisfaction. The single most effective way to improve application launch performance is to replace a hard disk drive （HDD） with a solid state drive （SSD）, which has recently become affordable and popular. A natural question is then whether or not to replace the traditional HDD-aware application launchers with a new SSD-aware optimizer. We address this question by analyzing the inefficiency of the HDD-aware application launchers on SSDs and then proposing a new SSD-aware application prefetching scheme, called the Fast Application STarter （FAST）. The key idea of FAST is to overlap the computation （CPU） time with the SSD access （I/O） time during an application launch. FAST is composed of a set of user-level components and system debugging tools provided by Linux OS （operating system）. Hence, FAST can be easily deployed in any recent Linux versions without kernel recompilation. We implement FAST on a desktop PC with an SSD running Linux 2.6.32 OS and evaluate it by launching a set of widely-used applications, demonstrating an average of 28% reduction of application launch time as compared to PC without a prefetcher.

Mesenchymal stem cells have been previously shown to exert an immunomodulatory function. The present study sought to investigate the effects of multipotential human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells （hAdMSCs） on disease progression and cytokine expression in Lewis rats with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis （EAE） induced by myelin basic protein. The duration of EAE paralysis in the group treated on day 7 posfimmunization with 5 × 10^6 hAdMSCs was significantly reduced compared with the vehicle-treated controls and the 1 x 106 hAdMSC- treated group. The duration of EAE paralysis in the groups treated with 5 × 10^6 hAdMSCs on both day 1 and day 7 postimmunization was significantly reduced compared with the vehicle-treated controls and the groups treated with 5 × 10^6 hAdMSCs on both day 7 and day 10 postimmunization. The mRNA expression of interleukin-10 and indoleamine 2, 3-dioxygenase was significantly decreased in the hAdMSC-treated group compared with the vehicle-treated group. These findings suggest that the ameliorative effects of hAdMSCs on EAE symptoms operate in a dose- and time-dependent manner and can be mediated in part by the ample production of anti-inflammatory cytokines.

BACKGROUND Owing to rarity of disease and lack of prospective studies, data supporting the role of adjuvant chemotherapy in ampulla of Vater(AoV) carcinoma is *** To evaluate whether adjuvant chemotherapy cases for AoV carcinoma had better disease-free survival(DFS) rates than cases of observation following curative *** We retrospectively analyzed the association between adjuvant chemotherapy and DFS and overall survival(OS) in patients with stage IB-Ⅲ AoV carcinoma who underwent curative surgical resection. Fluorouracil-based adjuvant chemotherapy was administered after surgery at the discretion of the physician. Adjusted multivariate regression models were used to evaluate the association between adjuvant chemotherapy and survival *** Of the total 104 patients who underwent curative surgery, 52 received adjuvant chemotherapy. Multivariate analysis revealed that higher histologic grade [hazard ratio(HR) = 2.24, P = 0.046], advanced tumor stage(HR = 1.85, P = 0.030), and vascular invasion(HR = 2.14, P = 0.010) were associated with shorter DFS. Adjuvant chemotherapy improved DFS compared to the observation group(HR =0.50, P = 0.015) and tended to be associated with a longer OS, although the difference was not statistically significant(HR = 0.58, P = 0.098).CONCLUSION Among patients with resected AoV carcinoma, the adjuvant chemotherapy group was not associated with a significant survival benefit compared to the observation group. However, on multivariate analysis adjusting for prognostic factors, adjuvant chemotherapy following surgery was an independent prognostic factor for DFS in patients with resected AoV carcinoma. Further studies are needed to investigate the effectiveness of adjuvant chemotherapy according to histologic phenotype.

Objective:Epidemiological studies indicate that alcohol increases gastric cancer(GC)risk,yet most studies have focused on heavy alcohol intake,leaving other factors understudied.A comprehensive investigation of the effects of the frequency and amount of alcohol intake may help elucidate the GC risk associated with drinking ***:The Health Examinees-Gem(HEXA-G)study,a community-based large-scale prospective cohort study,enrolled Korean adults 40–69 years of age between the years 2004 and *** GC cases were identified through linkage to Korea Central Cancer Registry data until December 31,***-reported questionnaires were used to survey alcohol consumption-related factors(duration,frequency,amount,and type of alcoholic beverages).The frequency and amount of alcohol consumption were combined to explore GC risk according to 4 drinking patterns:“infrequent-light”,“frequent-light”,“infrequent-heavy”,and“frequent-heavy”.We used Cox proportional hazard models to estimate the adjusted hazard ratios(HRs)and 95%confidence intervals(CIs),and investigate the relationship between alcohol intake and GC ***:A total of 128,218 participants were included in the *** an average follow-up period of 8.6 years,462 men and 385 women were diagnosed with *** men,current drinkers showed a 31%greater risk of GC than non-drinkers(HR 1.31,95%CI 1.03–1.66),whereas no significant association was observed in *** men,GC risk was associated with a higher frequency(P trend 0.02)and dose of ethanol intake in grams(P trend 0.03).In men,the“frequent-light”(≥5 times/week and<40 g ethanol/day)drinking pattern was associated with a 46%greater risk of GC(HR 1.46,95%CI 1.02–2.07)than the“infrequent-light”pattern(<5 times/week and<40 g ethanol/day).Conclusions:This study suggests that frequent intake of alcohol,even in low quantities per session,increases GC *** research is warranted to evaluate the relationship between alcohol and GC in detai
