Insights of Chinese Medicine Syndrome Study:From Current Status to Future Prospects

Syndrome differentiation is a key feature of Chinese medicine （CM） system. With CM receiving more and more attention from the mainstream medical systems, researchers from both traditional medical systems and the Western medical system are putting more effort into studying why and how the CM system works, particularly about CM syndromes. This paper reviews the current status of syndrome study and its future development. The major aspects include：（1） Usage of syndrome differentiation in clinical practice; （2） Formalization of syndrome diagnostic criteria; （3） Evidence-based determination of the common syndrome（s） of a disease; （4） Systems biology study of syndromes; and （5） Usage of syndrome in randomized controlled trials. It is expected to integrate the syndrome concept into the main stream medical system, in terms of diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

We designed and constructed a novel,compact tri-band monopole antenna for intelligent *** behavior was achieved by placing inverted-L shaped stubs of various lengths in a triangular monopole antenna fed by a coplanar *** resonance frequency of each band can be controlled by varying the length of the corresponding *** bands,at 2.4(2.37-2.51),3.5(3.34-3.71),and 5.5(4.6-6.4)GHz,were easily obtained using three stubs of different *** miniaturization,a portion of the longest stub(at 2.4 GHz)was printed on the opposite side of the substrate,and connected to the main stub via a shorting *** validate the concept,the antenna was fabricated on a low-cost 1.6-mm-thick FR-4 substrate with dimensions of 20×15×1.6 mm^(3).The antenna exhibited a moderate average gain of 2.9 dBi with an omnidirectional radiations over the bandwidths required for RFID,Bluetooth,ISM,WiMAX,andWLAN-band *** features make the antenna suitable for compact smart devices.

Compared to other structural alloys,magnesium alloys have a relatively poor corrosion resistance and low mechanical strength,which can be further deteriorated when these alloys are subjected to joining processes using the existing joining ***,we propose for the first time an additive friction stir-welding(AFSW)using fine Al powder as an additive to improve the mechanical strength as well as corrosion resistance of AZ31B weld *** is a solid-state welding method of forming a high-Al AZ31B joint via an in-situ reaction between pure Al powders filled in a machined groove and the AZ31B *** optimize the process parameters,AFSW was performed under different rotational and transverse speeds,and number of passes,using tools with a square or screw *** particular,to fabricate a weld zone,where the Al was homogenously dispersed,the effects of the groove shape were investigated using three types of grooves:surface one-line groove,surface-symmetric grooves,and inserted symmetric *** homogenous and defect-less AFS-welded AZ31B joint was successfully fabricated with the following optimal parameters:1400 rpm,25 mm/min,four passes,inserted symmetric grooves,and the tool with a square *** AFSW fully dissolved the additive Al intoα-Mg and in-situ precipitated Mg_(17)Al_(12)particles,which was confirmed via scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscope,and X-ray diffraction *** microhardness,joint efficiency,and elongation at the fracture point of the AFS-welded AZ31B joint were 80 HV,101%,and 8.9%,*** values are higher than those obtained for the FS-welded AZ31 joint in previous *** corrosion resistance of the AFS-welded AZ31B joint,evaluated via hydrogen evolution measurements and potentiodynamic polarization tests,was enhanced to 55%relative to the FS-welded AZ31B joint.

Because of enhanced e cacy and lower side e ects,cancer immunotherapies have recently been extensively investigated in clinical trials to overcome the limitations of conventional cancer *** engineering attempts have been made to build nanosystems even including stimulus nanomaterials for the e cient delivery of antigens,adjuvants,or anticancer drugs to improve immunogenic cancer cell death,this requires huge R&D e orts and investment for clinically relevant findings to be approved for translation of the *** this end,in this study,an air–liquid two-phase electrospray was developed for stable bubble pressing under a balance between mechanical and electrical parameters of the spray to continuously produce biomimetic nanosystems consisting of only clinically relevant compounds[paclitaxel-loaded fake blood cell Eudragit particle(Eu-FBCP/PTX)]to provide a conceptual leap for the timely development of translatable chemo-immunotherapeutic *** was pursued as the e cacy of systems for delivering anticancer agents that has been mainly influenced by nanosystem shape because of its relevance to transporting behavior to organs,blood circulation,and cell–membrane *** resulting Eu-FBCP/PTX nanosystems exhibiting phagocytic and micropinocytic uptake behaviors can confer better e cacy in chemo-immunotherapeutics in the absence and presence of anti-PD-L1 antibodies than similar sized PTX-loaded spherical Eu particles(Eu-s/PTX).

BACKGROUND Intracranial fusiform aneurysms are rare,spindle-shaped,and nonsaccular arterial dilatations that may be caused by *** SUMMARY A 48-year-old man complained of wake-up onset of dysarthria and left-sided ***-weighted magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed an infarction in the territories of the right middle and posterior cerebral *** tomography angiography showed fusiform aneurysms in the right vertebral artery and bilateral petrous segments of the internal carotid arteries(ICAs).Despite conservative management,malignant ischemic stroke recurred in the contralateral ICA territory within a day of the onset of the index *** We report a rare case of successive malignant strokes in a patient with multiple fusiform ***,we emphasize that clinicians should consider aggressive treatment for patients with ischemic stroke and multiple fusiform aneurysms.

The formation mechanism of calcareous deposit films in seawater involves an increase in pH at the metal/solution interface due to cathodic reactions, a raised carbonate ion concentration at the interface and precipitation of inorganic deposits such as CaCO3, Mg(OH)2. Environmentally friendly hybrid calcareous deposit films were formed by an electrochemical technique on steel substrates in various solution environments. And the influence of dissolved gas on formation of calcareous deposit films was investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) and X-ray diffractometry(XRD). Consequently, these results showed that formation of good overall calcareous deposited films by dissolved gas in seawater environments can be achieved by controlling the material composition and structure through effective use of electrochemical method.

AIM： To evaluate the effects of betaine on the ethanolinduced secretion of IGF-I and IGFBP-1 using radioimrnunoassay and Western blotting, respectively, in primary cultured rat hepatocytes. METHODS： Hepatocytes isolated from male SpragueDawley rats were incubated with various concentrations of ethanol and PD98059 procedures. The hepatocytes were also treated with different doses of betaine （10^-5, 10^-4, and 10^-3 mol/L）. We measured IGF-I and IGFBP-1 using radioimmunoassay and Western blotting, respectively. RESULTS： The ethanol-induced inhibition of IGF-I secretion was attenuated by betaine in a concentration-dependent manner in primary cultured rat hepatocytes. At 10^-3 mol/L, betaine significantly increased IGF-I secretion but decreased IGFBP-1 secretion. In addition, p42/44 rnitogen-activated protein kinase （MAPK） activity was accelerated significantly from 10 min to 5 h after treatment with 10^-3 mol/L betaine. Furthermore, the changes in IGF-1 and IGFBP-1 secretion resulting from the increased betaine-induced p42/44 MAPK activity in primary cultured rat hepatocytes was blocked by treatment with the MAPK inhibitor PD98059. Betaine treatment blocked the ethanol-induced inhibition of IGF-I secretion and p42/44 MAPK activity, and the ethanol-induced increase in IGFBP-1 ***： Betaine modulates the secretion of IGF-I and IGFBP-1 via the activation of p42144 MAPK in primary cultured rat hepatocytes. Betaine also alters the MAPK activations induced by ethanol.
