Anion exchange membrane(AEM)water electrolyzers are promising energy devices for the production of clean hydrogen from ***,the lack of active and robust electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)severely impedes the development of this *** this study,a ternary layered double hydroxide(LDH)OER electrocatalyst(NiFeCo-LDH)is developed for high-performance AEM alkaline seawater *** AEM alkaline seawater electrolyzer catalyzed by the NiFeCo LDH shows high seawater electrolysis performance(0.84 A/cm^(2)at 1.7 Vcell)and high hydrogen production efficiency(77.6%at 0.5 A/cm^(2)),thus outperforming an electrolyzer catalyzed by a benchmark IrO_(2)*** NiFeCo-LDH electrocatalyst greatly improves the kinetics of the AEM alkaline seawater electrolyzer,consequently reducing its activation loss and leading to high *** on the results,this NiFeCo-LDH-catalyzed AEM alkaline seawater electrolyzer can likely surpass the energy convers.on targets of the Us Department of Energy.

A novel method to collect sperm from brood parasitic cuckoos:Urodeum stimulation(Uros)method

sperm competition has been studied in numerous species as a representative example of postcopulatory sexual selection,where sampling sperm from male is the most basic and important *** collection can be tricky in birds,however,because unlike mammals,the genitals of birds are generally latent in the cloacal region and their characteristics vary among *** methods to collect sperm from different birds have been tested,such as cloacal massage,feces collection,and electro-stimulation,but their applicability varies depending on *** this study,we introduced the urodeum stimulation method(Uros method)to collect sperm from Cuculus cuckoos,such as the Common Cuckoo(***).These species are expected to have interesting patterns of pair bonding and sperm competition because of their unique breeding strategy called brood parasitism;however,it remains *** this study,we described the application of our new method to expel semen from male common cuckoos,measured the volume of semen collected,checked the presence of sperm in the semen sample,and finally estimated its success rate among 82 *** were successfully collected from 76 cuckoos(approximately 93%)and the colors and volumes of the samples were very *** was present in 43 of these samples(57%),showing a sperm observation rate approximately twice as high as that of the conventional cloacal massage *** believe that this novel method will contribute to a better understanding of postcopulatory sexual selection in avian brood parasites and facilitate the process of sperm collection and artificial insemination in other medium-sized birds.

Effects of difructose dianhydride (DFA)-Ⅳ on in vitro fertilization in pigs

Difructose dianhydride Ⅳ(DFA-Ⅳ) is produced from levan, which is a natural polysaccharide that belongs to the fructan family, through the activity of levan fructotransferase(LF) derived from microorganisms. Recently, DFA-Ⅳ has been expected to have diverse applications in the food and medical industry. Here, we examined the potential application of DFA-Ⅳ for in vitro fertilization(ⅣF) in pigs. In the assessment of acrosomal integrity during incubation, intact acrosomal or viable spermatozoa were highly sustained in 0.1% or 0.25% DFA-Ⅳ(69.8%-70.8%,Pspecies(ROs) levels during sperm incubation decreased following the addition of DFA-Ⅳ, and 0.1 %-0.5% DFA-Ⅳ in particular significantly decreased ROs production relative to that seen with no addition or 0.75% DFA-Ⅳ. Total fertilization(mono + polyspermic oocyte) rate was significantly higher in the addition of0.1% DFA-Ⅳ(94.2%) than with other concentrations(71.8%-86.7%, Psing reduced ⅣF times and lower sperm numbers, we found that addition of 0.1%-0.5% DFA-Ⅳ significantly increased the fertilization rate(Ps treated with 0.1% DFA-Ⅳ exhibited higher embryonic development and blastocyst formation than those treated with other concentrations(Psequently, the addition of DFA-Ⅳ during ⅣF improved fertilization and embryonic development, suggesting the possible use of novel sugars for enhancement of assisted reproductive technology(ART) in mammals.

Attractor landscape analysis of the cardiac signaling network reveals mechanism-based therapeutic strategies for heart failure

Apoptosis and hypertrophy of cardiomyocytes are the primary causes of heart failure （HF）, a global leading cause of death, and are regulated through the complicated intracellular signaling network, limiting the development of effective treatments due to its complexity. To identify effective therapeutic strategies for HF at a system level, we develop a large-scale comprehensive mathematical model of the cardiac signaling network by integrating all available experimental evidence. Attractor landscape analysis of the network model identifies distinct sets of control nodes that effectively suppress apoptosis and hypertrophy of cardiomyocytes under ischemic or pressure overload-induced HF, the two major types of HF. Intriguingly, our system-level analysis suggests that intervention of these control nodes may increase the efficacy of clinical drugs for HF and, of most importance, different combinations of control nodes are suggested as potentially effective candidate drug targets depending on the types of HF. Our study provides a systematic way of developing mechanism-based therapeutic strategies for HF.

Objective:The purpose of the study was to identify the best sequence of therapy beginning with a tyrosine kinase inhibitor(TKI)as the first-line therapy for patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma(mRCC)in terms of overall survival(Os),progress.on-free survival(PFs),and rates of dis.ontinuation and adverse effects during the treatment ***:This is a retrospective,nationwide multicenter study of patients with mRCC after diagnosis at 10 different tertiary medical centers in Korea from January 1992 to December *** focused on patients at either“favorable”or“intermediate”risk according to the International mRCC Database Consortium criteria,and they were followed up(median 335 days).Finally,a total of 1409 patients were selected as the study *** generated a Cox proportional hazard model adjusted for covariates,and the different therapy schemes were statistically tested in terms of Os as well as *** addition,frequencies of dis.ontinuation and adverse events were compared among the therapy ***:Of the primary patterns of treatment sequences(24 sequences),“sunitinib epazopanib”and“sunitinibeeverolimuseimmunotherapy”showed the most beneficial results in both Os and PFs with significantly lower hazards than“sunitinib”,which is the most commonly treated agent in *** that the“TKIeTKI”structure showed relatively higher dis.ontinuation rates with higher adverse effects,the overall beneficial sequence would be“sunitinibeeverolimuseimmunotherapy”.Conclus.on:Among several sequential therapy starting with TKIs,“sunitinibeeverolimuse immunotherapy”was found to be the best scheme for mRCC patients with“favorable”or“intermediate”risks.

The vertical phase distribution of active layers plays a vital role in balancing exciton dissociation and cha rge transport for achieving efficient polymer solar cells(PsCs).The layer-by-layer(LbL)PsCs are commonly prepared by using sequential spin-coating method from donor and acceptor solutions with distinct solvents and solvent *** enhanced exciton dissociation is expected in the LbL PsCs with efficient charge transport in the relatively neat donor or acceptor *** this work,a series of LbL all-polymer solar cells(APsCs)were fabricated with PM6 as donor and PY-DT as acceptor,and triplet material m-Ir(CPmPB)_(3)is deliberately incorporated into PY-DT layer to prolong exciton lifetimes of active *** power convers.on efficiency(PCE)of LbL APsCs is improved to 18.24%from 17.32%by incorporating 0.3 wt%m-Ir(CPMPB)_(3)in PY-DT layer,benefiting from the simultaneously enhanced short-circuit current density(Isc)of 25.17 mA cm^(-2)and fill factor(FF)of 74.70%.The enhancement of PCE is attributed to the efficient energy transfer of m-Ir(CPmPB)_(3)to PM6 and PY-DT,resulting in the prolonged exciton lifetime in the active layer and the increased exciton diffus.on *** efficient energy transfer from m-Ir(CPmPB)_(3)to PM6 and PY-DT layer can be confirmed by the increased photoluminescence(PL)intensity and the prolonged PL lifetime of PM6 and PY-DT in PM6+m-Ir(CPmPB)_(3)and PY-DT+m-Ir(CPmPB)_(3)*** study indicates that the triplet material as solid additive has great potential in fabricating efficient LbL APsCs by prolonging exciton lifetimes in active layers.

Optimal design of V-type ultrasonic motor

V-type ultrasonic linear motor fabricated using a simple punching technique was proposed to utilize as an actuator of small precis.on *** stator of the motor is composed of a thin elastic body and four ceramics attached to the upper and bottom areas of the *** ceramics have each direction of *** two harmonic voltages with a 90° phase difference are applied to the ceramics,symmetric and anti-symmetric displacements will generate at the tip to produce an elliptical motion.A finite element analysis(ATILA) was conducted to simulate the motion pattern for the contact tip of the *** develop a model that generates the maximum displacement at contact tip,the FEM program was used for various *** addition,an optimal model was chosen by considering the magnitude and shape of the displacement according to changes in *** maximum elliptical displacement is shown by W2L11 model,which has a ratio of ceramic width to length of 1:***,the displacement of the contact tip is reduced by the bucking phenomenon if the ratio is larger than 1:6.
