Choroidal thickness measurements in young Saudi adult population: a cross-sectional study

AIM:To determine the choroidal thickness(CT)in young healthy Saudi adults using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT)with an automated CT segmentation ***:Fifty-eight young adults(total of 116 eyes),39 males and 19 females participated in this study between the ages of 18 and 38y(mean 22.65±3.9y).All participants underwent ophthalmic screening examination,including the SD-OCT for measurements of CT in each quadrant egmented into five eccentric regions starting from the foveal region up to 4.5 mm towards the ***:The choroid was thickest in the foveal region(central 1 mm,300±60μm)and began to progressively thinner beyond the parafovea(1.5–2.5 mm,284±67μm)towards the peripheral region(3.5–4.5 mm from the fovea,254±83μm).The superior choroid showed the thickest profile(309±57μm),while the nasal choroid exhibited the thinnest(229±76μm).The rate of the thinning with increasing eccentricity was more predominant in the nasal choroid,which thinned from the foveal region(294±58μm)to the peripheral region(158±55μm).The superior and inferior choroid did not show a statistically significant thinning with eccentricity(all P>0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the CT between gender,age,and laterality of the eyes(all P>0.05).A significant association of myopia with thinner subfoveal choroid was observed(Pearson’s,r=0.37),and regression analysis showed that a 10.3μm choroidal thinning for each diopter increase of ***:CT profile depends on eccentric and the *** CT profile across the measured area in the young Saudi adult population is comparable to other previous *** error is critical for CT evaluation.

AIM:To investigate the practice patterns of optometrists in Saudi Arabia regarding myopia ***:An internet-based survey was distributed to all practicing optometrists in Saudi Arabia(n=1886).The survey contained questions related to 1)demographics,2)knowledge about myopia and its associated complications,3)current clinical care,4)type and frequency of myopia treatment prescribed,and 5)potential barriers limiting treatment ***:The completed surveys were collected from 171 optometrists(9.06%response rate,60%male).knowledge regarding myopia-associated complications was prevalent but somewhat inaccurate among the *** refraction at initial visit was used by 59%of the *** cover test was the most reported binocular vision test(83%),and 38%of optometrists did not perform any ocular *** prescribed single-vision spectacles for children with *** time spent outdoors was selected by 80%of the practitioners who prescribed myopia control treatment as the primary *** support and lack of clinical experience in providing myopia treatment were reported as the most important factors limiting the adoption of myopia management ***:The current optometric practices in Saudi Arabia require further *** appear to be somewhat aware of myopia and the associated ***,most evidence-based myopia treatments are not being locally adopted,primarily because of lack of support,lack of experience,and limited availability.

Impact of multifocal gas-permeable lens designs on short-term choroidal response, axial length, and retinal defocus profile

Assessment of tear film parameters post-treatment with commercial eyelid cleaning wipes:a pilot study

AIM:To investigate the short-term effects of commercially available eyelid-cleaning wipes on film ***:This study enrolled 48 healthy participants aged 20-35y(both males and females).Clinical assessment included the Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)questionnaire,non-invasive tear break-up time(NITBUT),tear meniscus height(TMH),and lipid layer pattern(LLP).Based on these initial results,participants were categorized as either non-dry eye or dry *** in each group were randomly allocated to either Blephaclean■or Systane■*** in NITBUT,TMH,and LLP levels before and after lid wipe treatment were ***:The dry eye group exhibited significantly higher OSDI scores and lower NITBUT and TMH levels than in the non-dry eye group(P0.05).Similarly,the LLP levels were significantly improved with Systane■(P<0.001)post-treatment compared to individuals in the non-dry eye ***,the dry eye subjects showed higher posttreatment LLP levels than the untreated group(P<0.02).CONCLUSION:The short-term effects of Systane®eyelid wipes on tear film parameters suggest their effectiveness in dry eye ***,further exploration of their long-term impact is essential to justify their cost effectiveness and efficacy in treating both aqueous deficiency and evaporative dryness.

The Internet of Things(IoT)has been deployed in diverse critical sectors with the aim of improving quality of service and facilitating human *** IoT revolution has redefined digital services in different domains by improving efficiency,productivity,and *** service providers have adapted IoT systems or plan to integrate them as integral parts of their systems’operation;however,IoT security issues remain a significant *** minimize the risk of cyberattacks on IoT networks,anomaly detection based on machine learning can be an effective security solution to overcome a wide range of IoT *** various detection techniques have been proposed in the literature,existing detection methods address limited cyberattacks and utilize outdated datasets for *** this paper,we propose an intelligent,effective,and lightweight detection approach to detect several IoT *** proposed model includes a collaborative feature selection method that selects the best distinctive features and eliminates unnecessary features to build an effective and efficient detection *** the detection phase,we also proposed an ensemble of learning techniques to improve classification for predicting several different types of IoT *** experimental results show that our proposed method can effectively and efficiently predict several IoT attacks with a higher accuracy rate of 99.984%,a precision rate of 99.982%,a recall rate of 99.984%,and an F1-score of 99.983%.

Secure and Anonymous Three-Factor Authentication Scheme for Remote Healthcare Systems

Wireless medical sensor networks(WMSNs)play a significant role in increasing the availability of remote healthcare *** vital and physiological data of the patient can be collected using the WMSN via sensor nodes that are placed on his/her body and then transmitted remotely to a healthcare professional for proper *** protection of the patient’s privacy and their data from unauthorized access is a major concern in such ***,an authentication scheme with a high level of security is one of the most effective mechanisms by which to address these security *** authentication schemes for remote patient monitoring have been proposed ***,the majority of these schemes are extremely vulnerable to attacks and are unsuitable for practical *** paper proposes a secure three-factor authentication scheme for a patient-monitoring healthcare system that operates remotely using a *** proposed authentication scheme is formally verified using the Burrows,Abadi and Needham’s(BAN)logic model and an automatic cryptographic protocol verifier(ProVerif)*** show that our authentication scheme can prevent relevant types of security breaches in a practical context according to the discussed possible attack *** of the security and performance are carried out with recently proposed authentication *** results of the analysis show that the proposed authentication scheme is secure and practical for use,with reasonable storage space,computation,and communication efficiency.

Embedded System Based Raspberry Pi 4 for Text Detection and Recognition

Detecting and recognizing text from natural scene images presents a challenge because the image quality depends on the conditions in which the image is captured,such as viewing angles,blurring,sensor noise,***,in this paper,a prototype for text detection and recognition from natural scene images is *** prototype is based on the Raspberry Pi 4 and the Universal Serial Bus(USB)camera and embedded our text detection and recognition model,which was developed using the Python *** model is based on the deep learning text detector model through the Efficient and Accurate Scene Text Detec-tor(EAST)model for text localization and detection and the Tesseract-OCR,which is used as an Optical Character Recognition(OCR)engine for text *** prototype is controlled by the Virtual Network Computing(VNC)tool through a computer via a wireless *** experiment results show that the recognition rate for the captured image through the camera by our prototype can reach 99.75%with low computational ***,our proto-type is more performant than the Tesseract software in terms of the recognition ***,it provides the same performance in terms of the recognition rate with a huge decrease in the execution time by an average of 89%compared to the EasyOCR software on the Raspberry Pi 4 board.

Evaluation of visual stress symptoms in age-matched dyslexic, Meares-Irlen syndrome and normal adults

AIM： To examine the prevalence of dyslexia and Meares-Irlen syndrome（MIS） among female students and determine their level of visual stress in comparison with normal subjects.·METHODS： A random sample of 450 female medical students of king Saud University Riyadh（age range, 18-30y） responded to a wide range of questions designed to accomplish the aims of this study. The detailed questionnaire consisted of 54 questions with 12 questions enquiring on ocular history and demography of participants while 42 questions were on visual symptoms. Items were categorized into critical and non-critical questions（CQ and NCQ） and were rated on four point Likert scale. Based on the responses obtained, the subjects were grouped into normal（control）, dyslexic with or without MIS（Group 1） and subjects with MIS only（Group 2）. Responses were analysed as averages and mean scores were calculated and compared between groups using one way analysis of variance to evaluate total visual stress score（TVSS =NCQ ＋CQ）, critical and non-critical visual stress scores. The relationship between categorical variables such as age, handedness and condition were assessed with Chi-square test.·RESULTS： The completion rate was 97.6% and majority of the respondents（92%） were normal readers, 2%dyslexic and 6% had MIS. They were age-matched. More than half of the participants had visited an eye care practitioner in the last 2y. About 13% were recommendedeye exercises and one participant experienced pattern glare. Hand preference was not associated with any condition but Group 1 subjects（3/9, 33%） were significantly more likely to be diagnosed of lazy eye than Group 2（2/27, 7%） and control（27/414, 7%） subjects. The mean±SD of TVSS responses were 63±14 and it was 44±9for CQ and 19 ±5 for NCQ. Responses from all three variables were normally distributed but the CQ responses were on the average more positive（82%） in Group 2 and less positive（46%） in Group 1 than control. Anomaly Detection for Industrial Internet of Things Cyberattacks

The evolution of the Internet of Things(IoT)has empowered modern industries with the capability to implement large-scale IoT ecosystems,such as the Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT).The IIoT is vulnerable to a diverse range of cyberattacks that can be exploited by intruders and cause substantial reputational andfinancial harm to *** preserve the confidentiality,integrity,and availability of IIoT networks,an anomaly-based intrusion detection system(IDS)can be used to provide secure,reliable,and efficient IIoT *** this paper,we propose an anomaly-based IDS for IIoT networks as an effective security solution to efficiently and effectively overcome several IIoT *** proposed anomaly-based IDS is divided into three phases:pre-processing,feature selection,and *** the pre-processing phase,data cleaning and nor-malization are *** the feature selection phase,the candidates’feature vectors are computed using two feature reduction techniques,minimum redun-dancy maximum relevance and neighborhood components *** thefinal step,the modeling phase,the following classifiers are used to perform the classi-fication:support vector machine,decision tree,k-nearest neighbors,and linear discriminant *** proposed work uses a new data-driven IIoT data set called *** experimental evaluation demonstrates our proposed model achieved a high accuracy rate of 99.58%,a sensitivity rate of 99.59%,a specificity rate of 99.58%,and a low false positive rate of 0.4%.
