In this paper, we define two versions of Untrapped set (weak and strong Untrapped sets) over a finite set of alternatives. These versions, considered as choice procedures, extend the notion of Untrapped set in a more general case (i.e. when alternatives are not necessarily comparable). We show that they all coincide with Top cycle choice procedure for tournaments. In case of weak tournaments, the strong Untrapped set is equivalent to Getcha choice procedure and the Weak Untrapped set is exactly the Untrapped set studied in the litterature. We also present a polynomial-time algorithm for computing each set.

To determine the toughness of materials, Charpy V notch test has been widely used over the world. Originally, the Charpy-V or U tests were used mainly as a quality control tests. In this paper, effects of temperature and notch geometry on variation of toughness/yield stress ratio were investigated. The experimental work has been performed on austenitic stainless steel 316L using Charpy tests and carried out at temperature range from 20 ℃ to 250 ℃ on different dimension of V- and U-notch specimens. Energy of fracture was determined directly from machine tests. Furthermore, Barsoum correlation has been applied to determine toughness/yield stress ratio as function of temperature. In addition, several parameters were investigated namely specimen thickness and notch cut angles. U-notch specimen offers a high resistance comparatively to the V-notch and that toughness depends on temper situation and orientation of notch relative to the rolling direction.

Biofumigation for Weed Management in Cabbage

Field studies were conducted in Lebanon to investigate the effect of solarization with/without cover crop green manure on weed population in subsequent planting of cabbage. Cover crops （alfalfa, barley, clover, lathrus and vetch） or crushed olive pulp were planted/added in i 8 m2 plots 75 days prior to planting cabbage. Crops and crushed olive pulps were ploughed under （CCGM） and then half the plots in each treatment were solarized （Biofumigation） by covering each plot with a clear polyethylene sheet for 40 days. Solarization with or without biofumigation significantly reduced weed population in subsequent cabbage planting as compared to nonsolarized CCGM or to the control. Solarization and biofumigation significantly increased fresh weight of cabbage as compared to the control and to nonsolarized CCGM treatments. Optimal weed control was observed in plots which were biofumigated with clover as a CCGM,

Background: Being non-immunogenic and capable of achieving major metabolic liver functions, adult-derived human liver stem/progenitor cells (ADHLSCs) are of special interest in the field of liver cell therapy. The cytokine repertoire of engrafted cells may have critical impacts on the immune response balance, particularly during cell transplantation. Methods: In this work, we analyzed the cytokinome of ADHLSCs during hepatogenic differentiation (HD) following stimulation with a mixture of inflammatory cytokines (I) in vitro and compared it to that of mature hepatocytes. Results: Independent of their hepatic state, ADHLSCs showed no constitutive expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which were significantly induced by inflammation (IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNFα, CCL5, IL-12a, IL-12b, IL-23p19, IL-27p28 and EBI-3). IL1-RA and IDO-1, as immunoregulatory cytokines, were highly induced in undifferentiated ADHLSCs, whereas TGF-β was downregulated by both hepatic and inflammatory events. Interestingly, TDO-1 was exclusively expressed in ADHLSCs after hepatic differentiation and enhanced by inflammatory cytokines. Compared to mature hepatocytes, hepatic-differentiated ADHLSCs showed significantly different cytokine expression patterns. Conclusions: By establishing the cytokinome of ADHLSCs and highlighting their immunological and inflammatory features, we can enhance our knowledge about the safety and efficiency of the transplantation strategy.

In the drinking water treatment processes, the optimization of the treatment is an issue of particular concern. In general, the process consists of many units as settling, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection. The optimization of the process consists of some measures to decrease the managing and monitoring expenses and improve the quality of the produced water. The objective of this study is to provide water treatment operators with methods and practices that enable to attain the most effective use of the facility and in consequence optimize the cubic meter price of the treated water. This paper proposes a review on optimization of drinking water treatment process by analyzing all of the water treatment units and gives some solutions in order to maximize the water treatment performances without compromising the water quality standards. Some practical solutions and methods are performed in the water treatment plant located in the middle of Morocco (Meknes).

Britholites are considered as potential matrices for storage of nuclear wastes such as minor actinides and long-lived fission byproducts. This investigation is concerned with the study of simultaneous substitution in calcium fluor-britholite framework of two lanthanide ions assimilated to radionuclides. A series of calcium fluorbritholites doped with lanthanum and neodymium Ca8La2-xNdx(PO4)4(SiO4)2F2 with 0 ≤ x ≤ 2 were prepared via a solid state reaction in the temperature range 1450℃- 1250℃. The obtained products were characterized by several techniques such as Chemical analysis via Inductively coupled plasma Atomic emission spectrometry ICP-AES, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy FTIR and Nuclear magnetic resonance 31P NMR (MAS). Obtained solid solutions containing lanthanum and neodymium in variable proportions were typically apatite of hexagonal structure P63/m spatial group. The stoichiometry of the powders was verified via the metal/(phosphate + silicate) molar ratios found at about 1.67. The lattice parameters a and c calculated by the Rietveld method decreased as neodymium level increased. Despite, the close respective sizes of lanthanum and neodymium ions (VIrLa3+= 1.032A, VIrNd3+= 0.983A), their mutual substitutions led to solid solutions in whole range of composition with preferential occupation of Me (2) sites.

This paper examines audit reports issued to 39 Malaysian listed companies in financial distress categorized as Practice Note 17 （PNI7） companies by Bursa Malaysia. The study finds that for companies which experienced financial distress, the audit reports are not similar, despite all companies are similarly troubled financially. Companies receive either a disclaimer or an emphasis of matter （EOM） report. The study finds that which of the two reports is given is associated with three variables： current-year operating loss, shareholders＇ deficit, and default status, implying that audit reports do convey information that financial distress is not of the same level and severity among PN 17 companies.

Penetration of chemicals in the soil ground through irrigation water or rainfall induces important risks for the environment. These risks are badly known and may lead to direct contamination of the environment (atmosphere or ground water) or harmful effects on organisms living at ground level, indirectly affecting men. It is thus necessary to estimate these potential chemical risks on the environment. For that reason, the gradual change of these products (fertilizers, solutions, pollutants, ...) in the ground has been the subject of a lot of recent research works, based in particular on the study of non-saturated porous media in a theoretical, numerical or experimental way. Most of these works are incomplete and, in order to simplify the problem, they don’t take into accounts some process, which may be of prime importance under particular natural conditions. Complexity of such studies results from their multidisciplinary nature. In this communication, we study simultaneous transport of pollutant, the water that provides transport and the heat transfer in a 200 cm long cylindrical column full of sand taken as a non-saturated porous medium. We consider two kinds of conditions on the temperature at the column surface: the case of constant temperature and the case of sinusoidal temperature. We evaluate the influence of this temperature on the transfers. This study is purely numerical. We use the control volume method to determine hydrous, thermal and pollutant concentration profiles.
