AIM:To investigate alanine aminotransferase(alT)and sustained virological response(SVR)in chronic hepatitis C(CHC)during peginterferon-ribavirin ***:One hundred and fifty-one genotype 1CHC patients underwent treatment for 48 wk with peginterferon and ribavirin,and were retrospectively divided into two groups as having a rapid virological response(RVR)(Group 1,n=52)and not having an RVR(Group 2,n=99).We also subdivided each group into two according to the initial alT level being high(Group1h and Group 2h)or normal(Group 1n and Group 2n).HCV RNA and alT levels were measured at baseline;at 4,12,24 and 48 wk during the treatment period;and at 24 wk *** levels were also obtained at 8 *** to the results of alT,patients were enrolled in either the follow-up abnormal or follow-up normalized alT groups at each *** with high and normal alT levels were compared for each interval in terms of ***:The SVR rates were 83%vs 40%(P=0.000),82%vs 84%(P=0.830),and 37%vs 44%(P=0.466)when comparing Group 1 with 2,1h with1n,and 2h with 2n,*** Group 2h,the SVR rates were 34%vs 40%(P=0.701),11%vs 52%(P=0.004),12%vs 50%(P=0.007),7%vs 50%(P=0.003),6%vs 53%(P=0.001),and 0%vs 64%(P=0.000)when comparing patients with high and normalized alT levels at week 4,8,12,24,48 and 72,*** multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that RVR(OR=7.05;95%CI:3.1-16.05,P=0.000),complete early virological response(cEVR)(OR=17.55;95%CI:6.32-48.76,P=0.000),normalization of alT at8 wk(OR=3.04;95%CI:1.31-7.06,P=0.008),and at 12 wk(OR=4.21;95%CI:1.65-10.76,P=0.002)were identified as independent significant predictive factors for ***:Normalization of alT at 8 wk may predict viral response during peginterferon-ribavirin treatment in genotype-1 CHC patients especially without RVR.

AIM： To compare the prevalence of hepatitis viral markers among soldiers from Turkey, blood donors from Northern Cyprus, and soldiers from Northern Cyprus. METHODS： Hepatitis B surface antigen （HBsAg）, anti-HCV and anti-human immunodeficiency virus （HIV） seroprevalence, HBV DNA, HCV RNA and HCV genotyping among soldiers from Turkey （group Ⅰ ）, civil blood donors from Northern Cyprus （group Ⅱ ）, and soldier candidates from Northern Cyprus （group Ⅲ） were studied and compared to one another. In total, 17 545 cases （13 546 males and 3999 females with a mean age of 34.5 ± 10.3 year, group Ⅰ = 11234, group Ⅱ = 5057, and group Ⅲ = 1254） were included into the study. RESULTS： Among all cases, HBsAg positivity rates were 2.46%, anti-HCV was 0.46% and anti-HIV was 0.00%. HBV DNA was 2.25%, HCV RNA was 0.33% in all groups. HBsAg positivity rates were 2.16% in group Ⅰ, 3.00% in group Ⅱ and 2.71% in group Ⅲ. There was a significant difference between group Ⅰ and group Ⅱ （χ^2= 6.11, P = 0.047 〈 0.05）. Anti-HCV positivity rates were 0.45% in group Ⅰ, 0.45% in group Ⅱ, and 0.56% in group Ⅲ. Genotypes of HCV were 1b and 1a in group Ⅰ, 1b, 1a and 2 in group Ⅱ, and tb, 1a in group Ⅲ. HBsAg carrier rates were 2.20% in females and 2.53% in males. Anti-HCV prevalence was 0.38% in females and 0.48% in males. HBsAg positivity rates were 2.53% in individuals younger than 50, and 1.47% in older than 50. There was a significant difference between the two groups （χ^2 =23.48, P = 0.001） CONCLUSION： Prevalences of HBsAg, HCV and HIV infections in Northern Cyprus population are similar to those of Turkey.

Geochemistry of Metamafic Dykes from the Quanji Massif: Petrogenesis and Further Evidence for Oceanic Subduction, Late Paleoproterozoic, NW China

A suite of ~1.84-1.92 Ga metamafic dykes within the paragneiss suite（khondalite） of the Quanji massif in NW China, has been chosen in this study for further understanding the tectonic evolution and possible links to the global Columbia supercontinent. Occurrence and field relations suggest that they were formed coevally with a previous studied ~1.83-1.85 Ga metamafic dyke swarms. Whole-rock major and trace elemental geochemistry suggests precursor magma of the amphibolites being generated from a volcanic arc-related tectonic setting rather than a back-arc environment where the metamafic dyke swarms were emplaced. The metamafic dykes show enrichment of LREE and strongly negative anomalies for Ta-Nb, Zr-Hf and Ti, have high SiO_2（49.3 wt.%-52.5 wt.%） but low MgO（6.40 wt.%-7.76 wt.%） contents and Mg~#（Mg~#=[100×（MgO/40.3）]/[MgO/40.3＋FeO/71.8]） values（45.7-52.1）, suggesting evolved precursor magma. The high values of La/Ta（22.2-42.8） and La/Nb（1.71-2.47）, mildly negative εNd（t） values（-2.51-0.15）, with depleted mantle model ages（TDM） of 2.45-2.84 Ga, suggest that their precursor magmas were possibly derived from a subduction-related fluid metasomatized Archean sub-continental lithospheric mantle. This study provides further evidence for oceanic plate subduction prevailing before or around ~1.85 Ga, which confirms a prolonged subduction-accretion-collision history in the NW China which is possibly linked to the assembly of the Columbia supercontinent.

Basaltic magmas can provide important information about mantle source nature,tectonic settings and tectonic evolution for a given *** paper reports geology,petrography and geochemistry of whole-rock major and trace elements and Nd-Sr isotopes for a suite of garnet amphibolites from southeastern Wulan(Ulan),Quanji Massif,northwestern *** garnet amphibolites were likely generated from basaltic lavas,associated with both paragneisses and orthogneisses of the lower Delingha *** basaltic protolith of these amphibolites can be broadly constrained to be formed at~2.33 Ga in an extensional setting *** geochemistry of amphibolites shows subalkaline and highly evolved *** display high-Fe low-Ti characteristics,with TFeO of 13.1 wt.%-17.9 wt.%and TiO_(2) of 1.42 wt.%-3.09 wt.%(in most samples TiO_(2)≤2.5 wt.%).The chondrite-normalized REE patterns show enrichment of LREE and LILE and the primitive-mantle-normalized incompatible element patterns display negative P,Ti,Nb-Ta and Zr-Hf ***(^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr)t values of 0.6978-0.7123 andε_(Nd)(t)values of-2.81-5.08 respond to depleted mantle model ages(T_(DM))of 2.33-3.30 *** suggest that the precursor magmas of the protolith of the garnet amphibolites were probably derived from the Early Paleoproterozoic depleted sub-continental lithospheric mantle that had been metasomatized by subduction-induced fluids and *** precursor basaltic magmas were contaminated by the older crustal components during magma *** post-collisional basaltic magmatic event at~2.33 Ga in Quanji Massif thus enhanced the subduction shutdown or slowdown tectonic regime both in NW China and coevally with those plate tectonics in some important domains worldwide during the Early Paleoproterozoic.

Determining the edge effect of pine processionary moth (Thaumetopoea pityocampa) in its horizontal distribution in the stand

Pine processionary moth is one of the most important forest pests in the Mediterranean Basin. There is need to explore its distribution behaviour to undertake effective control and determine the edge effect of its horizontal distribution in the stand. Five trial sites damaged by the insect were selected and traps installed in all trees in the sites. The number of nests and larvae was counted and diameter increment cores were taken. The distance to the edge of the stand revealed that there was no statistical difference in the number of nests and larvae up to 25 m while there was a statistically significant difference(0.5%)at [25 m. There was a 2-fold difference in the density of nests between 0 and 25 m and [25 meters, and a 3.8-fold difference in the number of larvae. The effect of pine processionary moth on tree diameter was not significant between trees at the edge of the stand and those in the stand.

Cobalt-based alloy(Co-30Cr-5.5Mo)is produced by the investment casting *** alloy complies with the ASTM F75 standard and is widely used in the manufacturing of orthopedic implants because of its high strength,good corrosion resistance and excellent biocompatibility ***,XRD and microhardness tests are used to examine the mechanical properties of the *** examined material exhibits the behaviour of indentation size effect(ISE).Our results reveal that Vickers and Knoop microhardness are dependent on indentation test *** traditional Meyer's law,the proportional specimen resistance(PSR)model and the Hays-Kendall model(HK)are used to analyze the load dependence of the *** a result,the Hays-Kendall model is found to be the most effective to determine the load-independent hardness HLI of CoCrMo alloy.

Acute ST elevation myocardial infarction has high mortality and morbidity rates. The majority of patients with this condition face erectile dysfunction in addition to other health problems. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of two different reperfusion strategies, primary angioplasty and thrombolytic therapy, on the prevalence of erectile dysfunction after acute myocardial infarction. Of the 71 patients matching the selection criteria, 45 were treated with primary coronary angioplasty with stenting, and 26 were treated with thrombolytic agents. Erectile function was evaluated using the International Index of Erectile Function in the hospital to characterize each patient＇s sexual function before the acute myocardial infarction and 6 months after the event. The time required to restore blood flow to the artery affected by the infarct was found to be associated with the occurrence of erectile dysfunction after acute myocardial infarction. The increase in the prevalence of erectile dysfunction after acute myocardial infarction was 44.4% in the angioplasty group and 76.9% in the thrombolytic therapy group （P= 0.008）. In conclusion, this study has shown that reducing the time of reperfusion decreases the erectile dysfunction prevalence, and primary angioplasty is superior to thrombolytic therapy for decreasing the prevalence of erectile dysfunction after acute myocardial infarction.
