The Prevalence and Clinical Manifestations of Co-Infection in Pediatric Infectious Mononucleosis: A Single-Centered, Retrospective Study

Background: Recent studies indicate that the incidence of infectious mononucleosis (IM) has increased in China. Furthermore, it has been shown that children diagnosed with IM are prone to acquiring other pathogens. However, there is limited research on the prevalence of these co-infections in children with IM. Thus, we conducted this study to determine the prevalence of coinfections and common pathogens, as well as to compare clinical manifestations in children with and without coinfections. Methods: This retrospective observational study was conducted at the Department of Pediatrics Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan university, Wuhan, China, with data from January 2018 to January 2023. Data, including demographics, symptoms, lab results, and complications, were collected from the hospital’s electronic database and analyzed. The statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests and Mann-Whitney tests to compare the means of continuous variables. Statistical significance was determined by p-values less than 0.05. Results: The study involved 216 participants diagnosed with IM, predominantly males (61.6%) aged 0 - 4 years (50.9%). Coinfection was detected in 39.8% of children, with multiple pathogens present in 33.72% of these cases. Among coinfection cases, 40% occurred in children under 5 years old, and females made up 54.2% of these cases. Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) was the most prevalent pathogen, accounting for 18.1% of cases. Influenza B (IFB) and Influenza A (IFA) viruses were found in 16.7% and 13.9% of participants, respectively, indicating a notable occurrence of respiratory pathogen coinfections. Male gender, fever, tonsillopharyngitis, lower HGB levels, higher ESR, CRP, and AST levels were correlated with coinfections. Conclusion: In summary, the study revealed a high prevalence of coinfections among children diagnosed with IM, particularly involving Mycoplasma pneumoniae and influenza viruses. This paper summarises efforts to control Sleeping sickness [Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT)] by Tsetse flies and Trypanosomiaisis (T & T) control for the 7 consecutive years although started a decade ago in Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA). These efforts are critical for curbing HAT incidences and HAT epidemics. HAT cases have had profound negative impacts on human health, affecting local residents and international travel as well as tourism industry resulting into human and animal health burden and reduction in tourism income. understanding the current efforts is essential in the proper planning and decision making on developing effective control strategy against T & T control. In this paper, we summarize the recent efforts in the control of T & T in National Parks and discuss the constraints faced. The information will enable TANAPA and other concerned authorities to make informed decision on optimal ways of controlling HAT in National Parks. The results show that much control efforts have so far concentrated in Serengeti, Ruaha, Tarangire and Katavi National Parks where tsetse fly challenges are high. A total 21,143 (average 3020) Insecticide Treated Targets (ITT) were deployed in different areas in the parks and 82,899 (average 20,725) cars entering these parks were sprayed from 2007/2008 to 2014/2015 and 2007/2008 to 2010/2011 respectively. Deployed ITTs lead to a drastic reduction of FTDs of the two dominant tsetse species to 1.3 and 1.4 of G. swynnertoni and G. pallidipes respectively, and the decline was significant at P = 0.011. The major challenges faced include tsetse re-invasion in controlled areas;resurgence of HAT cases when control efforts are relaxed, ITT maintenance and inadequate health education programs. The control strategy should be continuous and scaled up as failure to implement an effective and sustainable system for HAT control will increase the risk of new epidemic that would impede tourism development.

Background: Malaria in pregnancy is a preventable public health concern leading to a high prevalence of maternal morbidity, maternal mortality and adverse birth outcomes. Intermittent Preventive Treatment during pregnancy using Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine (IPTp-SP) is one of the main strategies used to prevent malaria in pregnancy. This study was aimed to determine knowledge attitude and practice regarding intermittent preventive treatment IPT of malaria in pregnancy utilization among pregnant women attending antenatal center in benadir hospital wadajir district benadir region somalia during the period of the study from April 2021-July 2021. Methods: The study was descriptive cross-sectional retrospective Hospital based. The sample size was 60 respondents of pregnant women at 20 weeks to 36 weeks of gestation. Data were collected by interview method using structured questionnaire. The data were collected and then entered to Statistical Package for Social Science version 20 for analysis. Results: The study displayed that the majority of the respondents (58%) were in the 25 - 34 years’ age group. A total of 51 (85%) were married, while 17 (28%) had primary school education. 43 (72%) were housewives while only 11 (18%) were employed. A total 32 (53%) were had gravid more than Four times, while the study showed that, the majority of mothers 39 (65%) were had knowledge about Intermittent Preventive Treatment during pregnancy using Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine (IPTp-SP). The study showed that majority of the respondent 25 (42%) were getting health education awareness towards IPTp were from health care providers at health centers while 8 (13%) from Friends/relatives/neighbors, followed by 4 (6%) from their husband. And 34 (57%) were had convenience IPTp-SP tablet consumption at their current pregnancy while 26 (43%) did not. Background: Antenatal care is one of the strategies aimed at addressing maternal mortality as it facilitates the identification and avoid pregnancy related problems and save lives of mothers and babies. Purpose: This study aimed knowledge attitude and practice towards antenatal care among pregnant women attending for antenatal care in SoS Hospital, Hiliwa District, Benadir region, Somalia during the period of the study from April 2021-July 2021. Methodology: The study was descriptive cross-sectional, retrospective hospital based;a total of 60 of pregnant women were enrolled in this study. Data were collected through interview method using structured questionnaire. Data analysis was used Statistical Package for Social Science version 20 for analysis (SPSS). Results: The study discovered a total of 60 respondents have participated of which 45 (75%) had knowledge towards antenatal care, while the study found that the sources of antenatal care information was;23 (38%) from health care providers at health centers and 10 (17%) from husbands. Among the study respondents 48 (80%) have convenience and accepted the utilization of antenatal care and a total of 51 (85%) were seeking permission for antenatal care visit. Also study respondents about 35 (58%) utilized antenatal care visit during their previous pregnancies and 25 (42%) did not. About 22 (36%) were preferred mother and child health centers, 10 (16%) were preferred public hospitals and few proportion 2 (5%) were preferred private hospital for antenatal care visit respectively. Finally the study showed that, multigravida, gestational months, seeking permission and spouse accompany to the antenatal care visit and level of awareness significantly contributed to the utilization of ANC by pregnant women in this study. 目的:鉴别睡眠中的发作性事件主要包括:快眼动睡眠行为障碍(RBD)和额叶癫痫(FLE),分析两者对睡眠相关参数的影响。方法:收集2018年6月至2019年12月间就诊于第一医院神经内科睡眠中心的FLE和RBD患者及年龄性别相匹配的正常对照组,每组12例,比较其行为学特点及神经电生理差异。结果:病例组与对照组之间的比较的结果显示,病例组和对照组之间SE,N1,WASo存在显著差异,微觉醒指数,AHI和PLM指数也存在显著差异。RBD与FLE组的组间比较结果显示,RBD组觉醒指数及N1时间高于癫痫组;RBD组的AHI及PLMD值高于癫痫组。结论:通过临床特征及PSG和24h-EEG相结合的方法可以有效鉴别RBD和额叶癫痫病,两者均影响睡眠参数及睡眠质量。RBD组对睡眠质量的影响大于额叶癫痫对其影响,RBD常伴有睡眠呼吸暂停低通气和睡眠中周期性肢体运动障碍。

针对乌鲁木齐总量控制与环境质量改善具有较好一致性,减排潜力仍然较大,排污总量与环境容量差距也较大的特点,基于情景分析法,通过设置基准情景和不同控制措施情景,预测主要大气污染物(So2、Nox、烟粉尘)在目标年2015年和2020年不同情景下的排放量,分析与基准情景相比较下的控制措施减排贡献,以定量化评估各项大气污染防治措施对其污染物减排效果。结果表明,火电行业对污染物的减排贡献最大,对So2、Nox、烟粉尘的减排贡献分别达到23%、39%和24%;石化、冶金行业对So2和Nox的减排贡献占比较高,建材和采掘行业对烟粉尘的减排具有较高贡献。同时指出调整能源结构、提高集中供热比例和实施机动车污染控制对乌鲁木齐大气污染防治同样具有重要意义。

Background: In Africa, female genital mutilation (FGM) is a widespread and harmful practice, with Somalia having the highest incidence at 98%. This practice has severe and long-lasting physical and mental health consequences. The aim of the study was to evaluate the different types of FGM;immediate and long-term complications associated with the practice, and identify factors related to its prevalence. Method: In a one-year cross-sectional hospital-based study, data were collected from females aged 18 - 50 with a history of FGM. Face-to-face semi-structured questionnaires were used for data collection. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 26, utilizing univariate and bivariate analyses to identify correlations between variables, which were presented in tables. Results: In a study involving 255 female participants, 65.5% were between 18 and 30 years old. The majority (82.7%) were married, while 47.1% were illiterate. FGM cases were more prevalent in rural areas (61.6%). Among the participants, 45.1% were employed. Type 3 FGM was the most common (44.3%), followed by Type 2 (32.2%) and Type 1 (23.9%). In terms of short-term complications experienced by circumcised women, the most common were bleeding, reported by 29.8% of participants, followed by infection (25.1%), and urinary retention (19.2%). Among the long-term complications observed, recurrent vaginal infections were the most prevalent, affecting 29.8% of the surveyed females. This was episiotomy during delivery (22.3%) and genital scarring (10.2%). Conclusion: The study reveals that Type 3 FGM is highly prevalent among the surveyed females, contributing to an increased risk of recurrent vaginal infections, prolonged second stage of labor, higher likelihood of episiotomy during delivery, and genital scarring. These findings emphasize the urgent need for effective preventive strategies and implementation from both international and local organizations to eliminate the harmful practice of FGM.
