Design of DSTATCOM Controller for Compensating Unbalances

In a three phase power system, the voltages at the generation side are in sinusoidal and equal in magnitude with 120? phase difference between the phases. However, at the load side voltages may become unbalanced due to unequal voltage magnitudes at the fundamental frequency, phase angle deviations or unequal distribution of single phase loads. The voltage unbalance is a major power quality issue, because a small unbalance in the phase voltages can cause a larger unbalance in the phase currents. A completely balanced three-phase three wire system contains only positive sequence components of voltage, current and impedance, whereas unbalanced system contains both positive and negative sequence components of voltages and currents. The negative sequence component of current in the unbalanced system increases the temperature and losses in the equipments. Hence, it is necessary to mitigate this problem by supplying the negative sequence current to the load at the load side and keep the source side balanced. This paper proposes the shunt connected, current injecting Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator (DSTATCOM) with appropriate controller to mitigate the unbalanced load current. The symmetrical components based Hysteresis Current Controller (HCC) is designed for DSTATCOM to diminish the unbalances in a three-phase three-wire system. The performance of the controller is studied by simulating the entire system in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The DSTATCOM with HCC is found to be better than other controllers because it is suitable for compensating both balanced and unbalanced loads.

Behaviour of micro-and nano-alumina-reinforced Mg-3Zn-0.7Zr-1Cu alloy composites processed at different sintering temperatures

This study aims to develop a magnesium-based hybrid composite via a powder metallurgy(PM)technique by simultaneously reinforcing the matrix(Mg-3 Zn-0.7 Zr-1 Cu)alloy with micro-alumina(3.0 wt%)and nano-alumina(0.5 wt%and 1.0 wt%)*** extensive processing involved two different sintering temperatures(400 and 450℃)followed by hot extrusion and a heat treatment *** study aimed to add to our understanding of the effects of sintering temperature and alumina content on the physical characteristics of Mg-based *** was revealed that increasing sintering temperature improves the density of composites by increasing their diffusion *** addition,significant improvements in the hardness,tensile properties and compressive properties of the composites were observed at higher sintering *** was also discovered that composites with higher alumina concentrations experienced agglomeration and were more porous than other composites.A micro-structural examination showed that composites with higher concentrations of nano-alumina had a finer grain structure than other composites and underwent a marginal reduction in grain ***,the tensile and compressive properties of composites decreased when the nano-alumina content was increased to 1.0 wt%.The magnesium hybrid composite containing 3.0 wt%micro-alumina and 0.5 wt%nano-alumina sintered at 450℃displayed the greatest tensile strength properties in all composites studied.A transformation from brittle to mixed-mode failure,with sufficient evidence of increased plastic deformation,was also noted in the hybrid *** present study suggests that adding up to 0.5 wt%nano-alumina and employing a higher sintering temperature enhances the overall characteristics of magnesium/alumina microcomposites.

Greener synthesis of ionic liquid(IL) assisted lanthanum oxide(La2O3) nanoparticles(NPs) was followed using Andrographis paniculata leaves extract by hydrothermal method at low temperature,The IL assisted La2O3(La2O3-IL) NPs were characterized by various properties such as structural,spectral,optical,morphological,and biological *** X-ray diffraction studies confirm that La2O3-IL NPs crystallize in the form of body-centered cubic structure and average crystalline size is shown-43 *** and Laser Raman spectroscopy confirm the La-O,O-H and various functional *** La-O stretching vibration band attributes at 639 *** optical property of La2O3-IL NPs was characterized by UV-Vis and photo luminesce nce *** sharp and intense absorbance peak observed in the UV region at 288 nm can be *** the PL spectrum,we observe two different emission bands like blue and green *** morphological and particle size determination were investigated by SEM with EDX spectra and TEM *** agglomerated particles of hexagonal,spherical,and parallelogram shape are observed in the TEM *** chemical elements,binding energies as well as La metal states on the surface of these synthesized NPs were determined using ***2O3 NPs for good biological activities regarding antibacterial and anti-inflammatory potentials could be utilized in different biological applications to the food and biomedical ***2O3-IL has a high percentage of inhibitions than La2O3 and standard diclofenac.

Impact of nanoparticle shape on thermo-solutal buoyancy induced lid-driven-cavity with inclined magnetic-field

The aim of this paper is to numerically investigate the influence of nanoparticles shape on heat and mass transport phenomena in a moving lid cavity under the combined effect of thermo-solutal buoyancy force and magnetic *** governing equations are transformed into velocity-vorticity form of equations and solved using Galerkin's weighted residual *** analysis has been carried out with parameters like buoyancy ratio(−5≤N≤5),magnetic field inclination angle(0°≤ϕ≤90°)with four shapes of Al_(2)O_(3) nanoparticle like bricks,blades,platelets and *** results revealed that the shape factor on Nusselt number is significant depending upon the inclined magnetic field and buoyancy ratio whereas on mass transfer the shape effect is *** diffusion mode of transport process is stronger than the convection mode at higher inclination angle of magnetic *** on a given value of N andϕ,blade and cylinder shows the best performance in Nusselt and Sherwood number respectively except the platelet shape that shows maximum frictional loss in terms of wall shear stress.

Effect of alkyl chain length on the thermophysical properties of pyridinium carboxylates

In the present study, new series of pyridinium carboxylate protic ionic liquids(PILs) were synthesized by pairing pyridinium cation with carboxylate anion from C_1–C_3 forming pyridinium formate([C_5H_6N^+][HCOO^-]),pyridinium acetate([C_5H_6N^+][CH_3COO^-]) and pyridinium propionate([C_5H_6N^+][CH_3CH_2COO^-]) *** physical properties namely, density, viscosity, surface tension(298.15–343.15) K, and refractive index(293.15–323.15) K were measured. Thermal properties namely, glass transition temperature, molar heat capacity, and thermal decomposition temperatures were also determined. The thermal expansivity was calculated using the experimental density data. The effect of increasing the alkyl chain length on the thermophysical properties of the pyridinium carboxylate PILs has been evaluated. As expected the physical properties i.e. density,viscosity, surface tension and refractive index of the investigated pyridinium carboxylates decreased with increasing temperature. In general pyridinium carboxylate PILs possessed low viscosity, high thermal stability and excellent hydrogen bonding capability, and these properties lead them to outperform conventional solvents employed for lignin dissolution.

Application of remote sensing and GIS analysis for identifying groundwater potential zone in parts of Kodaikanal Taluk, South India

Groundwater potential zones were demarcated with the help of remote sensing and Geographic Informa- tion System （GIS） techniques. The study area is composed rocks of Archaean age and chamockite dominated over others. The parameters considered for identifying the groundwater potential zone of geology slope, drainage density, geomorphic units and lineament density were generated using the resource sat （IRS P6 LISS IV MX） data and survey of India （SO1） toposheets of scale 1：50000 and integrated them with an inverse distance weighted （IDW） model based on GIS data to identify the ground- water potential of the study area. Suitable weightage factors were assigned for each category of these para- meters. For the various geomorphic units, weightage factors were assigned based on their capability to store ground-water. This procedure was repeated for all the other layers and resultant layers were reclassified. The reclassi- fied layers were then combined to demarcate zones as very good, good, moderate, low, and poor. This groundwater potentiality information could be used for effective identification of suitable locations for extraction of potable water for rural populations.

In vitro antiplasmodial activity of Spiro benzofuran compound from mangrove plant of Southern India

Objective:To find out the in vitro antipalsmodial activities of mangrove leaf ***: In vitro antiplasmodial assay was carried out with 13 different mangrove *** chromatography was performed with the most potent Agecerious corniculatum（***） by using various solvent ***-MS was also preformed with the most potent ethanolic fraction of the *** ***:Of the 13 mangroves plants, *** showed maximum percentage of parasitemia suppression（94.98±1.16）%.Column chromatography was performed with *** with different solvents and the methanolic extract showed maximum percentage（99.73±1.63）%of parasitemia inhibition at 150μg/mL concentration with the IC50 value of（29.28±3.23）μg/mL *** results of the GC-MS analysis observed that,the most potent methanolic extract showed maximum retention time（30.687 RT） and the chemical class was identified as Spiro[benzofuran-2（3 H）,1’-（3 cyclohexane）-2’,3- dione,7-chloro-4’,6]which was responsible for the antiplasmodial ***:It is concluded from the present study that,the chemical constituents of *** collected from Pichavaram mangrove forest can be used as a putative antiplasmodial drugs in future.

Prominent catalytic activity of mesoporous molecular sieves in the vapor phase dehydration of cyclohexanol to cyclohexene

Cerium incorporated KIT-6 mesoporous materials were synthesized through direct hydrothermal method and characterized by using X-ray diffraction （XRD）, nitrogen sorption isotherm （BET）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FT-IR）, inductively coupled plasma - atomic emission spectroscopy （ICP-AES）, diffuse reflectance ultraviolet visible spectroscopy （DRS-UV-Vis）, ther- mogravimetric analysis （TGA）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM） methods. It ap- peared that stable cerium ions were inserted into the silica framework of KIT-6, thus generating acid properties in their host materials. The catalytic activity of Ce-KIT-6 materials was evaluated in the vapor phase dehydration of cyclohexanol to cyclohexene and dicy- clohexyl ether at different temperatures with various Si/Ce molar ratios. Ce-KIT-6 （25） showed higher activity with 54% cyclohexa- nol conversion and 64% selectivity to cyclohexene. The catalytic results indicated that Ce-KIT-6 mesoporous materials could be used as versatile and stable acid catalysts.

Experimental study on behaviors of polypropylene fibrous concrete beams

Synthetic fibers made from nylon or polypropylene have gained application when loose and woven into geo textile form although no information on the matrix’s mechanical performance is obtained so that more understanding of their structural contribution to resist cracking can be determined. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation to determine the performance characteristics of concrete reinforced with a polypropylene structural fiber. In this investigation “Fiber mesh” brand of fibers manufactured by SL Concrete System, Tennessee, USA and marketed by M/S Millennium Building System, Inc., Ban-galore, India are used. The lengths of the fibers used were 24 mm. Fiber dosages used were 0.9, 1.8, 2.7 kg/m3. A total of three mixtures, one for each fiber dosage were made. A standard slump cone test was conducted on the fresh concrete mix with and without fibers to determine the workability of the mix. The test program included the evaluation of hardened concrete properties such as compressive, split tensile, modulus of rupture and flexural strengths. The increase in compressive strength is about 36.25%, 26.20%, and 23.75% respectively that of plain concrete. This increase in strength was directly proportional to amount of fibers present in the mix. The increase in flexural strength for Mixes I^III is about 21%, 16.6%, and 23% respectively that of plain concrete specimens. An experimental investigation was also made to study the behaviors of reinforced fibers concrete beams (with longitudinal reinforcements) under two-point loading. The deflection and crack patterns were also studied. The improvements in strength and ductility characteristics were discussed.

Lesson learned: Retrospective analysis of 'missed out' dengue NS1 positives among IgM negative population

Objective:To determine the proportion of dengue non-structural protein 1(NS1)positives among laboratory confirmed dengue IgM negative ***:Data for 1732 samples received from January to October 2017 at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory(VRDL)for dengue diagnosis were downloaded from the National Institute of Epidemiology *** that were previously reported as IgM negative for dengue diagnosis were identified and their NS1 status was determined using ***,'missed out'NS1 positives were correlated with the duration of ***,an epidemic curve for the study period was *** increase in positivity rate within and between the months was compared by McNemar's and Pearson's chi-square test,***:The reported IgM-negatives were 813,of which,22.5%(183)were retrospectively positive for NS1 *** addition of NS1 positives revealed by this study has raised the reported positivity across the months that ranged from 8.1%to 29.6%.By analyzing the dengue positives per month and the epidemic curve,the period between January and September,2017 was identified as non-epidemic while the epidemic started from the month of October,***:Acute dengue infection is widely confirmed by detecting NS1 antigen in *** out of NS1 positives happen due to shortened window period and such cases act as reservoir for further viral ***,this study highly emphasizes performing all three tests for dengue diagnosis that warrants the accurate dengue proportion in India.
