Analyzing dynamic curve widening on forest roads

Forest roads require important design specifications to ensure all-season access for various vehicles. Long and heavy log trucks can face serious maneuvering problems on forest roads due to insufficient amount of area to the left for road widening on horizontal curves. In order to provide safe and continuous shipment and transportation,appropriate curve widening areas should be provided for long vehicles along horizontal curves. In this study, a statistical model was developed to provide curve-widening solutions for long trucks（e.g., those with 18 wheels） considering various curve radius and deflection angles. The dynamic curve widening feature of Plateia 2013 program was employed to calculate curve widening for the specified vehicle. During the solution process, nine different horizontal curve diameters from 10 to 50 m（by 5 m intervals）and 17 different deflection angles from 90° to 170°（by 5°intervals） were evaluated to run horizontal curve-widening analysis. Using a multiple regression model, we made suitable predictions about curve widening. The curvewidening areas decrease as the horizontal curve radius increases, while increasing the deflection angle on horizontal curves increases curve widening areas. Clearly, the computer-based dynamic curve widening model developed in this study can be effectively used in determining optimum widening for horizontal curves by evaluating the number of alternatives that fit geometrical specifications and vehicle types.

Neurodegeneration is a catastrophic process that develops progressive damage leading to functional andstructural loss of the cells of the nervous system and is among the biggest unavoidable problems of our age.Animalmodels do not reflect the pathophysiology observed in humans due to distinct differences between the neuralpathways,gene expression patterns,neuronal plasticity,and other disease-related mechanisms in animals andhumans.Classical in vitro cell culture models are also not sufficient for pre-clinical drug testing in reflecting thecomplex pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases.Today,modern,engineered techniques are applied to developmulticellular,intricate in vitro models and to create the closest microenvironment simulating biological,biochemical,and mechanical characteristics of the in vivo degenerating tissue.In THIS review,the capabilities and shortcomings ofscaffold-based and scaffold-free techniques,organoids,and microfluidic models that best reflect neurodegeneration invitro in the biomimetic framework are discussed.

Traumatic mitral chordae rupture is a rare and known cause of acute mitral valve regurgitation and de novo heart failure.Concomitant pathologies in a trauma patient may mask the findings of de novo heart failure due to mitral chordae rupture.Trauma patients may also have other potential pre-diagnoses that could explain symptoms related to heart failure,such as tachycardia,circulatory shock,and acute hypoxemia.The possibility of traumatic chordae tendinea rupture being a preventable cause of mortality should be carefully evaluated.

Investigation of the Acceptability of Cultured Meat in University Students

Background: Over the past 20 years, cultured meat has drawn a lot of public attention as a potential solution to issues with animal husbandry, including inadequate use of natural sources, improper animal welfare practices, and possible risks to public health and safety. The novel method of producing meat through culture reduces the need for animals to produce muscle fiber, thereby obviating the necessity for animal slaughter. Apart from its ethical advantages, cultured meat presents a possible way to fulfill the expanding need for food among growing populations. The purpose of this research was to find out whether Turkish students would be willing to pay for and accept cultured meat. Technique: Method: 371 university students who willingly consented to fill out a questionnaire and provide demographic data make up the research sample. Questions from previous studies on the acceptability of cultured meat were compiled to create the survey. The research’s data collection took place in March and April of 2022. The research was completed in June 2022 after the data had been processed and analyzed. Results: The results showed that the majority of participants were female and had omnivorous eating habits. Based on the results of the Bonferroni correction test, students with a higher intention to purchase and consume cultured meat were those who received economics and business education. Students with two years of university education had a higher overall survey score than those with four years of education (p < 0.05). Furthermore, it is discovered that there is a negative correlation between the participants’ ages and their Factor 2 (using cultured meat as an alternative to industrial meat) and Factor 3 (consuming and purchasing it) section points (r = -109, p = 0.036) (r = -0.121, p = 0.019). In conclusion, university students generally have a negative outlook on health-related issues, such as eating cultured meat as an alternative.

Exploration of Green Alternatives to 6PPD (P-Phenylenediamine) Used as Antiozonant and Antioxidant in the Rubber Industry

Antiozonants and antioxidants are additives commonly used in the rubber industry to enhance the durability and performance of rubber products. Ozone, present in the atmosphere, can cause rubber to degrade over time through a process known as ozone cracking. These rubber additives are added to rubber compounds to protect against this degradation. They work by reacting with ozone, preventing it from attacking and breaking the molecular chains in the rubber, helping to maintain the structural integrity of the rubber product. It is now well known that 6PPD contributes to the extension of the service life of rubber products. However, recent studies have shown that 6PPD can be harmful to the environment, especially when end-of-life tyres (ELTs) are contaminated with the water. With the effect of ozone, 6PPD is converted to 6PPD quinone, which is toxic enough to kill some sensitive fish species such as Coho Salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch). This study drew attention to new chemical compounds and natural products that can be used as antiozonants and antioxidants in the rubber industry instead of 6PPD. Although the scientific studies are promising, the fact that 6PPD is still used in production shows that more scientific studies and social awareness need to be developed in this area.

Deeply subwavelength lasers(or nanolasers)are highly demanded for compact on-chip bioimaging and sensing at the nanoscale.One of the main obstacles for the development of single-particle nanolasers with all three dimensions shorter than the emitting wavelength in the visible range is the high lasing thresholds and the resulting overheating.Here we ex-ploit exciton-polariton condensation and mirror-image Mie modes in a cuboid CsPbBr3 nanoparticle to achieve coherent emission at the visible wavelength of around 0.53μm from its ultra-small(≈0.007μm3 or≈λ3/20)semiconductor nanocav-ity.The polaritonic nature of the emission from the nanocavity localized in all three dimensions is proven by direct com-parison with corresponding one-dimensional and two-dimensional waveguiding systems with similar material parameters.Such a deeply subwavelength nanolaser is enabled not only by the high values for exciton binding energy(≈35 meV),re-fractive index(>2.5 at low temperature),and luminescence quantum yield of CsPbBr3,but also by the optimization of po-laritons condensation on the Mie resonances with quality factors improved by the metallic substrate.Moreover,the key parameters for optimal lasing conditions are intermode free spectral range and phonons spectrum in CsPbBr3,which govern polaritons condensation path.Such chemically synthesized colloidal CsPbBr3 nanolasers can be potentially de-posited on arbitrary surfaces,which makes them a versatile tool for integration with various on-chip systems.

Mortal condition in an unusual localization,analysis of isolated tongue and tongue base abscesses

BACKGROUND Tongue abscess(TA)is a very rare clinical condition and its treatment is very important.Surgical drainage is at the forefront in the treatment.Our study includes patients with tongue and tongue base abscesses.AIM To discuss the clinical and laboratory findings of these patients emphasizing the underlying causes and treatment options with the largest patient series in the English literature.METHODS We included patients with isolated TA who applied to our clinic between January 1,2020 and January 1,2023.Those who lack the recorded data,those who are not between the ages of 18-66,those who have not undergone surgery-interventional procedure,and those who have infection and/or abscess in another place were excluded from the study.RESULTS There were two female(18%)and nine male(82%)patients in our series consisting of 11 patients.Their ages ranged from 18 to 66,and the mean±SD was 48.63±16.3.Considering the localization of the abscess,three anterior abscesses(27%),two lateral abscesses(18%),and six abscesses at the base of the tongue(54%)were detected.CONCLUSION Tongue abscesses can cause acute upper airway obstruction and respiratory collapse.It may be necessary to act quickly for the tracheotomy procedure and this procedure can usually be performed under local anesthesia as intubation cannot be achieved.When we encounter an abscess in an unexpected organ,difficulties may be encountered in the management of the patient.

Analyses of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions(GHG)in watermelon production

The aim of this research is to conduct an energy use efficiency and greenhouse gas(GHG)emission analysis in watermelon production that took place in Kırklareli Province of Turkey during the 2021 production season.This research contains calculations of Energy use efficiency,specific energy,energy productivity and net energy,energy input types,GHG emissions and GHG ratio.Survey,observation and data calculations are related to the 2021 production season.The data used in the research were collected from 30 different(accessible)farms through face-to-face surveys with full count method.EI and EO were calculated as 15698.99 MJ/hm^(2)and 104784.91 MJ/hm^(2),respectively.In relation to production inputs,24.29%of the energy inputs consisted of chemical fertilizers energy(3813.34 MJ/hm^(2)),20.04%consisted of transportation energy(3146.19 MJ/hm^(2)),10.63%consisted of diesel fuel energy(1668.52 MJ/hm^(2)),7.44%consisted of human labour energy(1168.09 MJ/hm^(2)),6.50%consisted of plant energy(1021.02 MJ/hm^(2)),5.76%consisted of electricity energy(904.50 MJ/hm^(2)),5.18%consisted of machinery energy(813.44 MJ/hm^(2)),3.36%consisted of irrigation water energy(527.63 MJ/hm^(2)),2.85%consisted of organic fertilizer energy(446.72 MJ/hm^(2)),2.40%consisted of farmyard manure energy(376.62 MJ/hm^(2))and 0.67%consisted of chemicals energy(105.67 MJ/hm^(2)).Energy use efficiency,specific energy,energy productivity and net energy were calculated as 6.67,0.28 MJ/kg,3.51 kg/MJ and 89085.91 MJ/hm^(2),respectively.The utilized total energy input in production was grouped as 27.19%direct energy,72.81%indirect energy,22.55%renewable energy and 77.45%nonrenewable.Total GHG emissions and GHG ratio were determined as 492.82 kg CO_(2)-eq/hm^(2),0.01 kg CO_(2)-eq/kg,respectively.

An Examination ofthe Impact of Game-Based Geometric Shapes Education Software Usage on the Education of Students With Intellectual Disabilities

Purpose:This study aims to research the impact of the e-learning environment,in which gamebased education software was used,on the learning of students with intellectual disabilities.Design/Approach/Methods:The study group consisted of 34 students with intellectual disabilities studying at a special education vocational school in Canakkale,Turkey.In this study,the true experimental method was used.For 5 weeks,the experimental group received blended learning that was supported by the usage of a game-based education software designed by the researcher,which includes interactive educational game applications.At the same time,control group students only received the teaching process in the classroom with the traditional teaching method.Acourse attitude scale and an achievement test were used fordata collection.Findings:The analysis of the findings showed that there was a significant increase between precourse and post-course attitudes and academic achievement scores of the students.There wasn't a significant difference between pre-course and post-course attitudes and academic achievement scores according to the gender and academic achievement scores.Males'academic achievement and attitude post-test scores were higher than females'scores.Students having upper daily mobile devices usage experience had higher post-test and academic achievement scores than students havinglowerdaily mobile devices usage experience.
