Effect of pulsed corticosteroids and tocilizumab on hyperinflammation in COVID-19 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome

Objective:To compare the efficacy of pulsed-dose corticosteroids(≥250 mg methylprednisolone,3 days)and tocilizumab in treating COVID-19-related ***:This prospective observational study included RT-PCR positive COVID-19 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome,who were admitted to the COVID-19 Adult Intensive Care Unit of Prof *** Dilmener Emergency Hospital(Istanbul,Turkey)between December 1,2020 and February 28,***,laboratory and radiological examinations were used to diagnose COVID-19 associated *** cohort groups were formed:the pulsed-dose corticosteroids group(250 mg methylprednisolone for 3 days),the tocilizumab group(8 mg/day single dose or 400 mg/day for 2 days),and the combined group(pulsed-dose corticosteroid+tocilizumab).The difference in mortality rates among the groups was compared *** most common cause(s)of death was ***,adverse events(secondary infection,acute kidney injury,arrhythmia,gastrointestinal system bleeding)for 28 days were ***:A total of 60 patients were included in this study,with 20 patients in each *** was no statistically significant difference between the 3 groups in mortality rates(55%in the pulsed corticosteroid group,60%in the tocilizumab group,50%in the combined group,χ2=0.404,P=0.817).Infectious causes were found to be the most common cause of mortality in all the three groups,and no difference was found between them(χ2=0.404,P=0.817).There was also no difference in the development of adverse events such as secondary infection,acute kidney injury,arrhythmia,and gastrointestinal bleeding among the groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:Corticosteroids can be used instead of tocilizumab to treat hyperinflammation in COVID-19 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Epidemic management in a measles outbreak in 2023,the return of vaccine-preventable diseases:A single center,retrospective observational study

Objective:To investigate the importance of immunization in preventing measles infection and to determine the most useful laboratory tests for confirmation of ***:This study included pediatric cases evaluated with a presumed diagnosis of measles between December 2022 and June 2023,at Marmara University Pendik Training and Research *** effects of vaccination status and underlying disease on the clinical course,treatments,and complications were ***:In total,117 patients were enrolled in the study with a median age of 80 months(IQR:32.5-125.0).Twelve patients with contact history were asymptomatic and had an underlying disorder,and intravenous immunoglobulin was given to them for post-exposure ***-one patients had confirmed measles *** treatment was given to three patients(a newborn,a girl with rhabdomyosarcoma,and a healthy boy)with respiratory ***-eight percent of confirmed measles cases were unvaccinated,and all hospitalized cases were unvaccinated or *** full-vaccinated children had confirmed measles *** PCR from nasopharyngeal swabs was negative in all of them,and their diagnosis was established with anti-measles IgM ***:The measles vaccine is the most effective way to protect from measles and measles-related *** measles can also occur in fully vaccinated patients,the disease is milder than in unvaccinated *** ELISA and RT-PCR tests together may be beneficial in patients with high clinical suspicion for early diagnosis.

The main purpose of this paper is to introduce some approximation properties of a Kantorovich kind q-Bernstein operators related to B′ezier basis functions with shape parameterλ∈[−1,1].Firstly,we compute some basic results such as moments and central moments,and derive the Korovkin type approximation theorem for these ***,we estimate the order of convergence in terms of the usual modulus of continuity,for the functions belong to Lipschitz-type class and Peetre’s K-functional,***,with the aid of Maple software,we present the comparison of the convergence of these newly defined operators to the certain function with some graphical illustrations and error estimation table.

Novel markers in predicting Brucella sacroiliitis:The platelet large cell ratio and basal immature reticulocyte fraction

Objective:To present platelet large cell ratio(P-LCR),reticulocyte,and immature reticulocyte fraction(IRF)values as novel parameters in diagnosis and response to treatment in patients developing ***:Sixty-eight patients with clinical symptoms and Brucella standard tube agglutination(Wright)or Brucella Coombs agglutination test titers≥1:160 were included in the *** groups were established,one developing sacroiliitis and another with no sacroiliitis development.P-LCR,reticulocyte,and IRF levels were measured using a Sysmex XN-9000 device(Japan).These were then compared between the two ***:Reticulocyte(P=0.037)and IRF(P=0.026)levels were significantly lower among the patients developing sacroiliitis compared to the non-sacroiliitis group,while P-LCR(P=0.003)levels were significantly higher.P-LCR had the most powerful correlation with sacroiliitis *** negative correlation was observed between reticulocyte,IRF levels and ***:Elevated P-LCR levels were observed as a marker of persisting inflammation in patients developing sacroiliitis,while low reticulocyte and IRF levels secondary to bone marrow involvement were *** three parameters emerged as highly significant markers in terms of diagnosis and reflecting responses to treatment in organ involvement such as sacroiliitis in *** are presented as inexpensive,and easily accessible novel parameters.

Effect of prayer on the self-care agency and hope in hemodialysis patients

Background:The level of self-care of hemodialysis patients is important in controlling the disease process and *** care has an important place in the process of resolving existing or developing problems of patients receiving hemodialysis treatment and in adapting to *** is not only a resource that encourages religious/spiritual coping,it is also a spirituality that strengthens ***:The objective of this study is to determine whether prayer has an effect on self-care agency and hope in hemodialysis *** and Methods:This is a descriptive and correlational study which was conducted with 180 patients in a private and a public dialysis *** data of 173 hemodialysis patients who met the inclusion criteria were collected using personal information form,Herth Hope Scale,Self-care Agency Scale,and Prayer Attitude ***:A positive,moderate,and statistically significant correlation was found between the Prayer Attitude Scale and total score(r=0.144,P=0.048)and sub-scale future(r=0.350,P=0.000)of Herth Hope *** there was positive correlation between the Prayer Attitude Scale and the total score of Self-care Agency Scale(r=0.599,P=0.000)and its five sub-dimensions drug use(r=0.566,P=0.000),diet(r=0.619,P=0.000),self-monitoring(r=0.522,P=0.000),hygienic care(r=0.576,P=0.000)and mental status(r=0.328,P=0.000).Conclusions:The study found that prayer had a positive effect on self-care agency and hope in hemodialysis patients.

Background and aims:In this study,the relationship between perceived stress and psychological well-being was analyzed in liver transplant recipients having immunosuppressive ***:This study was performed as descriptive research with 134 patients who had liver transplantation at the organ transplantation institute of a training and research hospital(n?134).The Perceived Stress Scale and the Psychological Well-Being Scale were used for the data *** research data were analyzed by using the Statistical Package for Social Science ***:Of all participant liver transplant recipients,22.4%were aged 18–27 years and 48–57 years and 80.6%were ***,the participant liver transplant recipients used immunosuppressive drugs such as prednisolone(92.53%),tacrolimus(61.9%),and mycophenolate mofetil(52.98%).It was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between psychological well-being and perceived ***:In this study,it was discerned that perceived stress affected psychological well-being *** is of importance to realize the stress experienced by liver transplant recipients and enhance their psychological *** the process following transplant surgery,the liver transplant recipients should be carefully followed and efforts to improve patient outcomes should be made.

Ocular findings in children with thalassemia major in Eastern Mediterranean

AIM: To investigate ophthalmologic findings in children with thalassemia major(TM) and compare the findings with healthy controls. ·METHODS: In a cross-sectional study,43 children with thalassemia major from pediatric hematology outpatient clinics from two university hospitals and age/sex matched 47 healthy children were included in the study. After a complete ophthalmic examination,tear function tests including the Schirmer test,fluorescein tear breakup time(BUT),ultrasound pachymetry,and axial length measurement were performed. Obtained data was recorded for statistical analysis and the values of right eyes were compared between groups. ·RESULTS: The mean best corrected visual acuity was 1.34 ±0.75 in TM and 1.08 ±0.28 in controls. It was found lower than 0.1 logMAR unit in 10(23.2%) children with TM and 2(4.2%) in controls,and the difference was statistically significant(P 0.05). The mean axial length was 22.53±0.50 in TM and 22.57±0.43mm in the control group. The mean Schirmer test score was 19.94±6.91 in TM and 24.22±3.95mm in the control group(P 0.05). ·CONCLUSION: In TM,while corneal thickness,axial length,and BUT are close to controls,the Schirmer scores are less than normal. The study revealed that TM may be affected by the tear function and visual acuity.

The presented study focused on developing an innovative decision-making framework to select the best renewable-power-plant technologies,considering comprehensive techno-economic and environmental *** to the favourable conditions,Australia was selected as the case study.A fuzzy-logic method and analytical hierarchy process were applied to prioritize different renewable-energy power *** techno-economic factors included levelized cost of energy,initial cost,simple payback time,and operation and maintenance costs along with environmental factors including carbon payback time,energy payback time and greenhouse-gas emissions were used to rank the power *** results showed that the capital cost and simple payback time had the highest priority from an economic point of *** comparison,greenhouse-gas emissions and carbon payback time were the dominant environmental *** analysis results provided economic and environmental priority tables for developing different power plants in the current state and a future scenario by *** fuzzy results and pairwise composite matrix of alternatives indicated that the onshore wind,offshore wind,single-axis tracker polycrystalline photovoltaic,single-axis tracker monocrystalline photovoltaic,fix-tilted polycrystalline photovoltaic and fix-tilted monocrystalline photovoltaic scored the highest in the current *** contrast,by 2030,the single-axis tracker photovoltaic power plants will be the best choice in the future scenario in ***,the results were used and analysed to recommend and suggest several policy implementations and future research studies.

Traveling Wave Solutions for Nonlinear Differential-Difference Equations of Rational Types
