OBJECTIVE： This study describes the development of a preliminary version of an instrument that attempts to assess the quality of reports of individualized homeopathic prescriptions in clinical trials and observational studies. METHODS： A multidisciplinary panel of 15 judges produced an initial version of the instrument through iterative Delphi rounds and pilot-tested the instrument on five clinical trials. Later they assessed, under blind conditions, the individualization quality of 40 randomly-selected research reports. The final version of the instrument included six criteria. These items were scored consistently by all the raters regardless of background. RESULTS： The instrument appeared to have adequate face and content validity, acceptable internal consistency or reliability （Cronbach＇s a 0.606 - 0.725）, significant discriminant validity （F = 398.7; P 〈 0.000 1）, moderate interrater reliability （Fleiss K 0.533）, agreeable test-retest reliability （Cohen＇s K 0.765 - 0.934）, moderate sensitivity （0.4; 95% confidence interval 0.253- 0.566）, and high specificity （1.0; 95% confidence interval 0.891-1.000）. CONCLUSION： The initial data suggest that this instrument may be a promising systematic tool amendable for further development.

OBJECTIVE： To our knowledge, prescription of homeopathic medicines by homeopathic undergraduate students has not been studied before though it may possess serious implications. We aimed to determine the practice and attitudes of prescription by homeopathic undergraduate students. METHODS： A cross-sectional study was carried out involving all the students from four government homeopathic schools of West Bengal, India. Ethical requirements were ensured and data were collected using self-administered questionnaires. Chi-square tests and logistic univariate regression analyses were performed to identify associations and differences. RESULTS： A total of 328 forms were completed. Of these, 264 （80.5%） homeopathic undergraduate students admitted of prescribing medicines independently and most （40.5%） said that they did this 2-3 times a year. The most common reasons for this were ＇urgency of the problem＇（35.2%）, ＇previous experience with same kind of illness＇（31.8%）, and ＇the problem too trivial to go to a doctor＇（25.8%）. About 63.4% of the students thought that it was alright to independently diagnose an illness while 51.2% thought that it was alright for them to prescribe medicines to others. Common conditions encountered were fever, indigestion, and injury. Students who prescribed medicines were more likely to belong to Calcutta Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital （odds ratio = 5.8; 95% confidence interval 2.247-14.972）. Prescription by students gradually increased with academic years of homeopathic schools. Many students thought it was alright for students to diagnose and treat illnesses. CONCLUSION： Prescription of medicines by homeopathic undergraduate students is quite rampant and corrective measures are warranted.

Improper prescribing habits and inappropriate drug use lead to serious health and economic consequences. This study was undertaken to evaluate drug utilization services and prescription patterns of homeopathic doctors in a government homeopathic teaching hospital in India. METHODS： No standardized homeopathic drug use indicators are available. The researchers used indicators for health care setting （drug availability）-modified prescribing indicators and patient care indicators, based on World Health Organization＇s core drug use indicators. A cross- sectional, prospective, institutional, observational study of 2-month duration with record analysis was conducted on 600 patients visiting seven different outpatient departments （OPDs） for the first time at Mahesh Bhattacharyya Homeopathic Medical College ＆ Hospital, Howrah, West Bengal, India, using the developed indicators. RESULTS： Overall availability of prescribed drugs was quite satisfactory （92.28%）. Centesimal potencies accounted for the majority of prescriptions （74.76%）. There was a poor record of diagnosis （39.17%） except in the OPDs of Gynecology and Obstetrics （68.48%, P 〈 0.01） and Dermatology （64.58%, P 〈 0.01）. Records of investigational findings and ongoing therapies, if any, were also poor except OPDs of Gynecology and Obstetrics, and Pediatrics. Structure of prescriptions was maintained satisfactorily in all the OPDs. Though tendency of using ＇individualized homeopathy＇ predominated, there also existed the use of ＇polypharmacy＇. Mean consultation time was 5.9 min. Labeling was extremely poor and is an area needing improvement. The prescriptions were highly legible. CONCLUSION： This was a preliminary study, conducted for the first time in homeopathy using newly developed indicators that yield meaningful results. Further studies are necessary in order to evaluate the different factors involved and to plan future interventions to improve the quality of care in healthcare settings.

In this paper,a two-dimensional axisymmetric thermal model using finite element method(FEM)has been established for predicting the temperature distribution pro-file on the work piece during electro discharge machining(EDM)and obtained material removal rate(MRR)from the temperature *** prediction of MRR,the model utilizes some important features *** and shape of the heat source(Gaussian heat distribution),thermal properties of workpiece,amount of heat distribution among the dielectric fluid,workpiece and tool,material flushing efficiency and pulse off/on time,*** software was used for developing the thermal model for the single spark *** this investigation,AISI 304 stainless steel and tungsten carbide was used as workpiece and electrode material,respectively.A comparison study has been carried out for theoretical and experimental MRR for the effect of each process parameter *** voltage,pulse on time and peak *** temperature distribution along the radial and depth direction of the workpiece has been *** model was validated by comparing the theoretical MRR with the experimental MRR and found a good correlation between them.

Nonlinear oscillations in micro-and nanoelectromechanical systems have emerged as an exciting research area in recent years due to their promise in realizing low-power,scalable,and reconfigurable mechanical memory and logic ***,we report ultralow-power mechanical memory operations utilizing the nonlinear oscillation regime of GaN microcantilevers with embedded piezotransistive AlGaN/GaN heterostructure field effect transistors as highly sensitive deflection *** between the high and low oscillatory states of the nonlinear oscillation regime was demonstrated using a novel phase-controlled opto-mechanical excitation setup,utilizing a piezo actuator and a pulsed laser as the primary and secondary excitation sources,***-based photoacoustic excitation was amplified through plasmonic absorption in Au nanoparticles deposited on a ***,the minimum switching energy required for reliable memory operations was reduced to less than a picojoule(pJ),which translates to one of the lowest ever reported,when normalized for mass.

The effectiveness of a vertical partial flexible porous membrane wave barrier located near a rigid vertical impermeable seawall for trapping obliquely incident surface gravity waves are analyzed in water of uniform depth under the assumption of linear water wave theory and small amplitude membrane barrier response. From the general formulation of the submerged membrane barrier, results for bottom-standing and surface-piercing barriers are computed and analyzed in special cases. Using the eigenfunction expansion method, the boundary-value problems are converted into series relations and then the required unknowns are obtained using the least squares approximation method. Various physical quantities of interests like reflection coefficient, wave energy dissipation, wave forces acting on the membrane barrier and the seawall are computed and analyzed for different values of the wave and structural parameters. The study will be useful in the design of the membrane wave barrier for the creation of tranquility zone in the lee side of the barrier to protect the seawall.

Colloidal quantum dots(QDs),the building blocks of modern displays and optoelectronic devices,have reached the highest level of size and shape control,and stability during the last 30 ***,full utilization of their potential requires integration or assembly of more than one nanocrystal as in the case of coupled quantum dots molecules(CQDM),where two core–shell QDs are fused to form two emission centers in close *** CQDMs were recently shown to switch color under an applied electric field at room *** we use cryogenic single particle spectroscopy of single CQDMs under an electric field to show that various mechanisms can contribute to the spectrum change under an applied electric field at cryogenic *** first mechanism is the control of the delocalized electron wave function when the electric field is applied along the dimer *** electric field bends the conduction band and forces the electron wave function to localize in one of the QDs yielding preferential emission of that particular *** addition,we found that QDs and CQDMs could become sensitive to surface traps under an electric *** the case of CQDMs,that can result in decreasing the intensity of one of the QDs while increasing the other QD’s ***,we show that there are surface charges which screen the applied electric field in some of the *** as well can result in electric field-induced color-tuning of *** the underlying mechanisms responsible for spectral shifts under applied electric fields is critical for the development of color-tunable devices utilizing CQDMs,including efficient displays and single photon sources.

In the first part of this article, we are concerned with the decay rate of solutions of one dimension convection diffusion equation. On the other hand, in the second part of this article, we are concerned with a decay rate of derivatives of solution of convection diffusion equation in several space dimensions.

A new approach to extracting the RF parameters of asymmetric DG MOSFETs with the NQS effect

In analog circuit design an important parameter, from the perspective of superior device performance, is linearity. The DG MOSFET in asymmetric mode operation has been found to present a better linearity. In addi- tion to that it provides, at the discretion of analog circuit designer, an additional degree of freedom, by providing independent bias control for the front and the back gates. Here a non-quasi-static （NQS） small signal model for DGMOSFET with asymmetric gate bias is proposed for extracting the parameters of the device using TCAD sim- ulations. The parameters extracted here for analysis are the intrinsic front and back gate to drain capacitance, Cgal and Cgd2, the intrinsic front and back distributed channel resistance, Rgdl and Rgd2 respectively, the transport de- lay, rm, and the inductance, Lsd. The parameter extraction model for an asymmetric DG MOSFET is validated with pre-established extracted parameter data, for symmetric DG MOSFET devices, from the available literature. The device simulation is performed with respect to frequency up to 100 GHz.
