Longiflorum and As.atic lilies.of the genus.Lilium of the family Liliaceae are two important groups.of modem lily cultivars. One of the main trends.of lily breeding is.to realize introgres.ion between thes. groups. With cut s.yle pollination and embryo res.ue, dis.ant hybrids.between the two groups.have been obtained. However, the FI hybrids.are highly s.erile or s.me of them could produce a s.all number of 2n gametes. and their BC1 progenies.are us.ally triploids. Dutch lily breeders.have s.lected many cultivars.from thes. BC1 progenies.bas.d on their variation. It is.pres.mably s.gges.ed that s.ch variation could be caus.d by intergenomic recombination and abnormal meios.s.during gamete formation in F1 hybrids.of Longiflorum × As.atic （LA） hybrids.in Lilium. Therefore, the meiotic proces. of ten F1 LA hybrids.was.cytologically inves.igated us.ng genomic in s.tu hybridization and traditional cytological methods.in the pres.nt res.arch. The res.lts.s.owed that： at metaphas. I, the homoeologous.chromos.me pairing among different F1 hybrids.ranged from 2.0 to 11.4 bivalents.formed by homoeologous.chromos.mes.per pollen mother cell （PMC）, and very few multivalents. and even very few bivalents.were formed by two chromos.mes.within one genome rather than homoeologous.chromos.mes.in s.me PMCs. at anaphas. I, all biva- lents.were dis.oined and mos. univalents.were divided. Both the dis.oined bivalents.（half-bivalents. and the divided univalents.（s.s.er chromatids. moved to the oppos.te poles. and then formed two groups.of chromos.mes. becaus. the two res.lting half-bivalents.retained their axes.in the cell undis.urbed, many cros.over types. including s.ngle cros.overs. three s.rand double cros.overs. four s.rand double cros.overs. four s.rand triple cros.overs. and four s.rand multiple cros.overs.between the non-s.s.er chromatids.in the tetrads.of bivalents. were clearly inferred by analyzing the breakpoints.on the dis.oined bivalents.
