Aim： To assess the behavior of patients with diabetes mellitus （DM） and erectile dysfunction （ED） during 10 consecutive years of treatment with self-injection of vasoactive drugs. Methods： Thirty-eight diabetic men, including 12 with type Ⅰ and 26 with type Ⅱ diabetes, were followed up regularly for 10 years after they began self-injecting for severe ED. Real time rigidity assessment was used for the objective determination of the initial dosage and then doses were regulated in order to introduce an erection suitable for penetration and maintenance of erection for approximately 30 min. Patients were followed up every two months, and doses were increased only when the treatment response was not satisfactory. Results： The number of injections used per year by the patients was reduced each year （mean numbers： 50 in the first year and 22.5 in the 10th） and treatment shifted towards stronger therapeutic modalities （mixtures of vasoactive drugs instead of prostaglandin E1 alone）. Type Ⅰ diabetic men were standardized to a level of treatment as early as 5 years after the initiation of treatment. That level was finally reached by type Ⅱ patients after another 4-5 years. Conclusion： Treatment with self-injections of vasoactive drugs in diabetic men with severe El） is a safe and effective alternative in the long term. Diabetic men of both types show the same preferences in quality and quantity of treatment after 10 years. The key point for maintenance in treatment is the adjustment of the therapeutic method and dosage to optimal levels for satisfactory erections. （Asian J Androl 2006 mar; 8： 219-224）

We report carbon stock in biomass, litter and soil estimated for six locations in natural Quercus ilex L. stands of the Middle and High Moroccan Atlas. Twenty trees at each location were selected according to their diameter classes and felled to measure the biomass of trunk, branches, twigs and leaves and determine allometric relationships. Soil was sampled in five depths (0 - 15, 15 - 30, 30 - 50, 50 - 70 and 70 - 100 cm) and litterfall production measured in all tree stands. The total carbon stock in above-ground biomass ranged between 17 Mg·haǃ in Aït Aamar stand (High Atlas) and 91 Mg·haǃ in ksiba stand (Middle Atlas). Perennial organs (trunk, branches and twigs) stored over 95% of the tree carbon stock. Soil organic carbon concentrations ranged from 0.01% (in 70 - 100 cm in all stands) to 8.1% (in 0 - 15 cm in the Ajdir stand in Middle Atlas). The total organic carbon stock in the soil ranged between 141.4 t·haǃ in Ajdir and 24.6 t·haǃ in Asloul. The litter contained 0.2 Mg C haǃ in the clearing (C2) stand of High Atlas and 14.3 Mg C haǃ in (Ajdir) of carbon. The best fitted model for predicting carbon stock in tree biomass was obtained by applying the allometric equation Y = aXb for each biomass fraction and stand, where Y is the aboveground biomass (dry weight) and X is the DBH (Mean diameter at breast height, 1.30 m). These previous data obtained in the present study confirm the important function of these natural forests as longterm C sinks, in forest biomass, litter and soil. The potential long term C storage of these systems is moderately high, especially in less-intensively managed forests that include large trees. The established relationship between DBH and carbon stock in different tree organs can be used for forest carbon accounting, and also synthesize available information on oak forest as a sink for atmospheric CO2, and identify the management options that may enhance the capacity for C capture/ storage

Relieving network congestions is a critical goal for the safe and flexible operation of modern power systems, especially in the presence of intermittent renewables or distributed generation. This paper deals with the real-time coordinated operation of distributed static series compensators(DSSCs) to remove network congestions by suitable modifications of the branch reactance. Several objective functions are considered and discussed to minimize the number of the devices involved in the control actions, the total losses or the total reactive power exchanged, leading to a non-convex mixed-integer non-linear programming problem. Then, a heuristic methodology combining the solution of a regular NLP with k-means clustering algorithm is proposed to get rid of the binary variables, in an attempt to reduce the computational cost. The proposed coordinated operation strategy of the DSSCs is tested on several benchmark systems, providing feasible and sufficiently optimal solutions in a reasonable time frame for practical systems.

The Laughter of Ticklishness Is a Darwinian Feature Related to Empathy in Both Genders: Self-Esteem in Men and Sexism in Women

The theory of false alarm for laughter could explain the involuntary laugh when someone is tickled. To put this hypothesis to the test, we handed out a questionnaire (180 items) with two hundred university students. Our main results are: In women who like being tickled, we discover components related to pleasure, erotism, feeling of affection, arousal, uncontrollability, domination, sexism and Darwinian (golden ratio) and psychological traits (empathy, low schizotypy and external locus of control) that are not present in the laughter at a stumble. The relation of both types of laughter with sense of humor is also differential. In men who like being tickled, we discover components related to masturbation, sexual fantasies, erotism, arousal, domination, sexist humour and Darwinian (square chin, feeling of masculinity) and psychological traits (empathic stress, low schizotypy, external locus of control and overall self-esteem). The relationship between being tickled and self-esteem shows a double aspect in men: It is positive in men who like being tickled and negative in men who do not like being tickled. For women there is not a relationship between self-esteem and tickling. Our conclusion is that laughter of ticklishness is a Darwinian feature related to empathy.

Effect of Different Nethouses on the Incidence of Insect on Vegetable Crops

In this study, the effects of different types of nethouses viz., NH1, NH2, and NH3, were investigated at the research farm of the Olericulture Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) from Sep 2021 to mar 2022 and compared to control (open field) in terms of the incidence of white fly, aphid, leaf miners, mites, and eggplant shoot and fruit borer (ESFB). This study included six vegetables 1) Tomato, 2) Eggplant, 3) Sweet pepper, 4) Broccoli, 5) Cucumber;6) Okra, as well as four nethouse treatments: 1) UV stabilized transparent polyethylene film with 60 mesh insect net along with green shade net (NH1);2) UV stabilized transparent polyethylene film with 60 mesh insect net (NH2);3) 60 mesh insect net (NH3);4) Open field infestation of white fly, aphid, leaf miners, mites, and ESFB was observed under open field conditions followed by NH1 conditions, while the lower infestation was observed in NH2 and NH3 for all vegetables. From the study, we found the use of stabilized transparent polyethylene film with a 60 mesh insect nethouse provided a negative effect on the presence of different types of notorious insects on vegetables. So, this type of protected nethouse will provide a new dimension to producing safe and quality vegetables in Bangladesh.

The chemistry of rainwater has been subject to numerous investigations during the last two decades due to the increase of environmental problems caused by the acid deposition. The present study focuses on one aspect of air pollution, the chemical composition of wet deposition of an industrial zone. The sampling period was from march to December 2009. The station was located on the roof of the Chemistry School at the University of Nuevo León, an area in the north of Monterrey where the majority of pollution is generated. Twenty-five wet precipitation samples were collected with an automatic sampler and analyzed for pH, ions (, , Cl-, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, k+) and conductivity. The results show that the average pH is higher than 5.6;the characteristics of the rainwater studied are of alkaline nature due to the values of pH found;there is an evident anthropogenic source contributing to the alkaline of rain water. In order to find possible association between ions and consequently the possible sources of pollutants correlation study was applied using the program SPSS v.12. Good correlations were found between ions and along with Ca2+ and Mg2+. The local extraction industry and surrounding aerosols might be causing of alkaline rain which may be due to the neutralization effect of particulate matter. This study represents a continuation of the studies of rainwater chemistry in the Northeast of Mexico.

Screening of Protease Inhibitory Activity in Aqueous Extracts of marine Invertebrates from Cuban Coast

Protease inhibitors have been isolated from many variable sources;however, the need to identify and characterize new molecules has increased with the discovery of new therapeutic targets and the lack of specificity of already identified compounds with inhibitory activity. The goal of this work was to search for inhibitory activity against four proteolytic enzymes already recognized as therapeutic targets: human neutrophil elastase, dipeptidyl peptidase IV, subtilisin from Bacillus licheniformis and cathepsin k in selected marine invertebrates from the Caribbean Sea. A systematic screening was carried out with selected aqueous extracts belonging to 20 species from seven different phyla: Annelida, Bryozoa, Chordata, Cnidaria, Equinodermata, Mollusca and Porifera, all collected at the coast of Havana (Cuba). All extracts showing initial inhibitory activity were characterized in terms of IC50 values and specific inhibitory activity (SIA). Model enzymes were used in the case of human neutrophil elastase (porcine pancreatic elastase) and cathepsin k (papain) for the screening and all positive results were confirmed by testing toward the therapeutic targets. Ten extracts were identified showing inhibitory activity against human neutrophil elastase, for which the most promising values were obtained for Nerita peloronta. Only one extract, Bunodosoma granulifera, showed inhibitory activity against dipeptidyl peptidase IV with rather poor values of IC50 and SIA. Seven extracts showed inhibitory activity against B. licheniformis subtilisin with very good IC50 and SIA values for Lissodendorix isodyctialis, Cenchritis muricatus, and N. peloronta. Finally, eight extracts were positive for cathepsin k with almost similar parameters values among them.
