Helicobacter Pylori Infection Is Associated with Dyslipidemia and Increased Levels of Oxidized LDL in Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus

Emerging data now indicate and address the strong relationship between H. pylori infection and the incidence of Type 2 DM, a growing body of evidence suggests that the infection with H. pylori may be associated with insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, long-term diabetes complications, and cardiovascular risk factors. The present study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between the infection with Helicobacter pylori and disturbance in Lipid profile in Type 2 Diabetic patients. One hundred and five participants were enrolled, categorized into two groups of H. pylori positive cases and negative controls according to their results of H. pylori IgG antibodies. Subjects in both groups fill the structured questionnaire. Blood samples were drawn for measuring the FBS, 2hr-PP blood sugar, HbA1c, Lipid profile and oxidized LDL. The obtained results were statistically analyzed. The study methodology was approved by the Biomedical Ethics Committee in the Faculty of Medicine, Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah, KSA. 48 cases (45.7%) were diagnosed as H. pylori seropositive and 57 (54.3%) were negative. There is no significant difference in the mean age or mean BMI between the H. pylori negative and positive cases. Glycemic control was similar in the two groups. Total Cholesterol was higher in cases of positive H. pylori compared to negative controls (P < 0.001) and Triglycerides was significantly elevated too (P < 0.005). No significant difference in the levels of HDL-Cholesterol between the two groups, while the mean LDL-Cholesterol was found to be significantly increased in cases of H. pylori positive compared to negative controls (P < 0.001). Oxidized LDL levels in the positive cases was found to be increased significantly (P = 0.001) compared to negative controls. Infection with H. pylori is associated with increased levels of Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL-C and oxidized LDL in Type 2 Diabetic patients.

1,2-Benzothiazine derivatives methyl 3-methoxy-4-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[e] [1,2]thiazine-3-carboxylate 1,1-dioxide（1） and methyl 2-ethyl-3-hydroxy-4-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2Hbenzo[e][1,2]thiazine-3-carboxylate 1,1-dioxide（2） were synthesized, and characterized by spectroscopic techniques; 1H-NMR and infrared（IR） spectroscopy. Crystals of 1 and 2 were grown by slow evaporation of methanol and ethyl acetate, respectively and their crystal structures were investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Geometric properties were calculated by the B3 LYP method of density functional theory（DFT） at the 6-31G＋（d） basis set to compare with the experimental data. Simulated properties were found in strong agreement with the experimental ones. Intermolecular forces have also been modeled in order to investigate the strength of packing and strong hydrogen bonding was observed in both compounds 1 and 2. Electronic properties such as Ionization Potential（IP）, Electron Affinities（EA） and coefficients of the highest occupied molecular orbital（HOMO） and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital（LUMO） of com- pounds 1 and 2 were simulated for the first time.

Physical Growth Pattern of Settlements in a Traditional Region, Southwest Nigeria

The study examined the growth pattern of settlements in Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, Nigeria between 1984 and 2011;and predicted the future growth pattern of settlements in the study area. Both primary and secondary data were used for this study. Primary sources of data include Global Positioning System (GPS), Landsat TM and ETM+ imageries of 1984, 1990, 2000, and 2011. Secondary data included administrative map and population data of the study area. Descriptive statistics and geospatial technique were used to analyse the data collected. The results showed a random pattern of settlement distribution in the study area. Results revealed that settlements covered about 0.52% of the total land area in 1984;1.32% in 2000;and 3.78% in 2011. Whereas linear pattern of growth characterised the periods between 1984 and 1990;clustering, infilling, and fringes were the patterns of growth that characterised the periods between 1990 and 2011. The study predicted that, at an average 1.2% of annual growth rate, settlements will occupy about 44.37% of the total land area by 2031. The study concluded that settlements in the study area varied in the patterns of distribution;the area was dominated by indigenous settlements type with overconcentration of social and economic infrastructures in few centres.

Charge density wave(CDW)is a phenomenon that occurs in materials,accompanied by changes in their intrinsic electronic *** study of CDW and its modulation in materials holds tremendous significance in materials research,as it provides a unique approach to controlling the electronic properties of ***_(2) is a typical layered material with a CDW phase at low *** V substitution for Ti in TiSe_(2),we tuned the carrier concentration in V_(x)Ti_(1-x)Se_(2) to study how its electronic structures ***-resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES)shows that the band-folding effect is sustained with the doping level up to 10%,indicating the persistence of the CDW phase,even though the band structure is strikingly different from that of the parent compound TiSe_(2).Though CDW can induce the band fold effect with a driving force from the perspective of electronic systems,our studies suggest that this behavior could be maintained by lattice distortion of the CDW phase,even if band structures deviate from the electron-driven CDW *** work provides a constraint for understanding the CDW mechanism in TiSe_(2),and highlights the role of lattice distortion in the band-folding effect.

Monthly Temporal-Spatial Variability and Estimation of Absorbing Aerosol Index Using Ground-Based Meteorological Data in Nigeria

The objective of this work is to analyze the temporal and spatial variability of the monthly mean aerosol index (AI) obtained from the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) and Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) in comparison with the available ground observations in Nigeria during 1984-2013. It also aims at developing a regression model to allow the estimation of the values of AI in Nigeria based on the data from ground observations. TOMS and OMI data are considered and treated separately to provide continuity and consistency in the long-term data observations, together with the meteorological variable such as wind speed, visibility, air temperature and relative humidity that can be used to characterize the dust activity in Nigeria. The results revealed a strong seasonal pattern of the monthly distribution and variability of absorbing aerosols along a north to south gradient. The monthly mean AI showed higher values during the dry months (Harmattan) and lower values during the wet months (Summer) in all zones. From December to February, higher AI values are observed in the southern region, decreasing progressively towards the north, while during March-October, the opposite pattern is observed. The AI showed clear maximum values of 2.06, 1.93, and 1.87 (TOMS) and 2.32, 2.27 and 2.24 (OMI) in the month of January and minimum values in September over the north-central, southern and coastal zones, while showing maximum values of 1.76 (TOMS) and 2.10 (OMI) during March in the Sahel. New empirical algorithms for predicting missing AI data were proposed using TOMS data and multiple linear regression, and the model co-efficient was determined. The generated coefficients were applied to another dataset for cross-validation. The accuracy of the model was determined using the coefficient of determination R2 and the root mean square error (RMSE) calculated at the 95% confidence level. Planning for the Solid Waste Management of Central Park in New Capital Development of Afghanistan

Kabul New City is a new capital development and a modern city development of Afghanistan covering total area of 740 km2. In 2009 Afghan cabinet approved developing New Capital to fulfill the requirement of growing population. For sustainable development, it has been planned to have a green belt and central park about 1298 hectares within the city. It is having positive impact on human health along with the economic, social and environmental benefits. Hence, for sustaining the urban parks, their proper maintenance is a foremost problem. The solid waste management is duly considered in planning stage of development, otherwise, it would encounter major challenges during operation and maintenance of Park. The projected waste generation in KNC park area is required to be assessed, therefore, surveys of Bagh-e-Babur in existing Kabul are carried out for the visitors’ projection and solid waste generation. The highest visitors and waste were estimated in declining order of summer, spring, fall, and winter. Kabul New City Central Park results speculate that the total visitors’ projection is going to be 6,745,313 per year generating about 337 metric tons wastes/year (0.05 kg/visitor/day). 10 Vehicles of capacity 8 m3 are required to collect waste from central park towards the Transfer Station while 4 vehicles of 23 m3 are required for collection of waste from TS to Landfill. Moreover, 700 containers of 240 liters are required in the park. Furthermore, different sites were indicated in map for composting area where after the development it would be considered.

Cracking Phenomenon in Spot Welded Joints of Austenitic Stainless Steel

The spot welds nugget cracking of austenitic stainless steel at temperatures between 700°C - 1010°C was investigated. Traditionally, the cracks have been observed around the spot nugget in welded temperature. Actually, these cracks are developed due to incomplete melting and inappropriate electrode pressure, which causes an expulsion of molten metal. These cracks start to grow and cause either the interface or plug fracture according to the loading type. In this work, the micro-cracks in the weld nugget were indicated for this type of steel at elevated temperature. Cracks appear in a certain range of temperature;about 700°C - 750°C. The cracks like defect and cavitations were presented. According to the fracture mechanics point of view, these cracks reduce the mechanical strength. Therefore, these cracks have to be taken into account with a certain precaution. Moreover, considering the working temperature and reducing the element may develop ferrite particles.

Measuring the Success of Hospital Information System across Multispecialty Hospitals in Bahrain

Purpose： The aim of this paper is to measure the success of HISs （hospital information systems） in Bahrain from their end user’s perspectives. Methodology： a quantitative design using a questionnaire based on the DeLone and McLean Information System Success Model （2003） was employed to examine the key determinants comprise of SQ （system quality）, IQ （information quality）, SerQ （service quality） as the independent variables and their effect on the US （user satisfaction）, U （system use） and the perceived NB （net benefits） as the success measures. There are 324 respondents consisting of doctors, nurses, technicians, pharmacists and admin staff of hospitals. Data were analyzed using SPSS. Findings： SQ, IQ and SerQ are significantly positively related to US and U, and the two later are in turns significantly positively related to the perceived NB out of the system to both users and organizations. Research implications： the research reflects the experience of using innovative healthcare technologies in the Middle East and its results show the importance of improving the systems technical quality to ensure more satisfied users, more utilized technologies and to reach the optimal purpose of implementing these systems and reap out their prospected benefits. Moreover, sufficient training and full dependency on the systems are required to get more confident users and reduce the daily work load.

Demineralized Drinking Water in Local Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Stations and the Potential Effect on Human Health

Water is important for life and its elements are very useful for human body to some extent. Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a very effective method in minimizing the concentrations of some elements in drinking water treatment. Therefore, the goal of this study is to measure the concentrations of some important parameters for human body and the role of Reverse Osmosis (RO) method in the local drinking water treatment stations in minimizing these constituents. This goal was achieved by comparing the effluent of five local drinking water treatment stations that depends on Reverse Osmosis as a primary treatment for the water produced from the Al-Diwaniyah water treatment plant. These parameters are PH, EC, TDS, Ca, Mg, and TH. Therefore, samples were collected and tested in Al-Qadisiyah Environmental Authority for these local drinking water treatment stations for seven weeks, in order to compare the effluent with the minimum concentrations required for human body according to the health studies and guide lines. The results show that all the drinking waters produced by these stations were below the WHO and Iraq standards. The concentrations of Calcium were in the range from 5.3 to 25 mg/l, while the concentrations of magnesium were in the range from 9.5 to 18.2 mg/l. Therefore, drinking water produced from RO stations should be remineralised to increase the concentrations of necessary constituents in order to minimize the risk of the potential influence of low level concentrations containing calcium carbonate or by adding calcium compounds to the water.

A New Attempt of Using Crushed Plastic Solid Wastes in Water Filtration

The aim of this new study is to investigate the ability of using crushed plastic solid wastes in water filtration by using a pilot plant. Two sets of filters were used. The first set represents mono media filters. The first filter is a sand media with effective size of 0.65 mm and the others three are plastic media with different grain sizes. The second set represents dual media filters with different depths, the filters were made to operate with the same effective size （0.6-1.0 mm）. These filters were subjected to the same operating conditions of filtration rates and infiuent turbidity. The filters were operated at rates of 5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5 m/h in order to find the optimum filtration velocity with influent turbidity ranged between 7 and l0 NTU （nephelometric turbidity unit）. The results indicated that the single plastic filters and the dual filters produced water of the same high quality as the sand filter. Plastic filters were slower in the development of head losses by about of 8%-78% less and they have longer running time than the sand filter, while the dual filters were slower in the development of head losses by about of 14%-16% and they have longer running time by about of 12%-40% than the sand filter.
