Objective:To investigate the interacting effects of co-administration of methanol leaf extract of Catharanthus roseus（***） on the hypoglycemic activity of metformin as well as glibenclamide using experimental ***:Phytochemical analysis as well as acute toxicity and lethality(LD50) test were carried out on its methanol leaf *** alloxan model for experimental induction of diabetes in rats was *** groups comprising five rats each were ***Ⅱ,ⅢandⅣreceived 250 mg/kg of extract,100 mg/kg of metformin and 1 mg/kg of glibenclamide respectively,while V and VI were administered metformin-extract and glibenclamide-extract combinations respectively at doses as *** I served as negative control and received only distilled *** administration was done once daily for seven days. Fasting blood glucose was determined at 2,12,24,72 and 168 h using a ***-way ANOVA with post-hoc tests was used to assess for significant difference due to administration of drug alone and with co-administration of drug and ***:The LD50 was 2 121.32 mg/kg. The phytochemical studies indicated the presence of saponins,tannins,alkaloids,phlotatannins, flavonoids,triterpenoids,reducing sugars,anthraquinones and *** medicaments significantly reduced blood glucose levels when compared with control alone（P<0.05） with the highest percentage reduction in blood glucose（64.86%） exhibited by metformin-extract ***:The leaf extract of *** significandy increases the hypoglycemic effect of metformin.

A qualification test for the reliability of a newly-developed Diver Gas Recovery System (DGRS) was carried out in the Naval Medical Research Institute of the People's Liberation Army, China from March 29 to April 2, 1995. A sequential test plan of high discrimination ratio for the mean time between failures (MTBF) was adopted. The test procedures simulated those of a 300 msw dive. A hyperbaric breathing machine was used for the simulation of diver's respiratory functions. Parameters, such as diving depth, respiratory minute volume (RMV), CO2 production, gas flow rate, partial pressure of carbon dioxide, and ambient temperature and himidity were all displayed and recorded with a microcomputer system. The results indicated that no failure occurred during the 91.5 h operation. According to the acceptance and rejection criteria specified in the statistical test plan, a no-failure score in the 88 h operation is acceptable. Therefore, the DGRS has been demonstrated to meet the requirements of MTBF specified in the contract.

·AIM:To report a successful osteo-odonto keratoprosthesis(OOKP) procedure in a case of end stage of corneal blindness due to Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS).·METHODS:An interventional case report.·RESULTS:We describe a 35-year-old Indian woman,a known case of SJS with bilateral dry eyes and corneal blindness (failed corneal graft with vascularised total corneal opacity in the right eye and non-healing corneal ulcer in the left eye).Vision was hand movement only in both *** corneal ulcer healed with medical treatment resulting in vascularised total corneal opacity with no improvement in *** was performed in the right eye and the vision was improved from hand movement to 6/*** same vision was maintained in the right eye at the last follow-up 5 years after surgery.·CONCLUSION:OOKP provides good visual rehabilitation with long-term anatomically stable prosthesis in patients with end-stage of ocular surface disorders and corneal blindness secondary to SJS.·

Surface-modified rice husk ash was used as an inorganic support material for immobilization of Candida antarctica lipase B.(3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane was used for surface *** of CALB was performed via both physical adsorption and *** synthesis was carried out by using these immobilized enzymes,free enzyme and Novozyme 435®.Molecular weight distribution of polymer samples was obtained by gel permeation chromatography(GPC)and chain structures of the polymer samples were observed by hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance(1H-NMR).The highest monomer conversion is generally obtained by using cross-linked enzyme,around 90%.PDI values for all polymer samples were approximately 1.5 which can be considered as *** general cross-linked enzymes were better than physically adsorbed enzymes in terms of average molecular *** can be concluded that PCL can be synthesized with these immobilized enzymes with high molecular weight and low PDI values.

AIM:To assess the awareness of eye complications and the prevalence of retinopathy,in the first visit to eye clinic,among type 2 diabetic patients attending a tertiary medical centre in Kuala Lumpur,***:An investigator-administered questionnaire was given to 137 patients with diabetes undergoing first time eye screening in the eye *** was followed by a detailed fundus examination by a senior ophthalmologist to assess for presence of ***:Almost 86% of respondents were aware of diabetic eye complications,especially in patients who had achieved tertiary educational level(96.3%).The majority of the patients(78.8%) were referred by their physicians and only 20.4% came on their own *** of the patients(43.8%) did not know how frequent they should go for an eye check-up and 72.3% did not know what treatments were *** of understanding on diabetic eye diseases(68.6%) was the main barrier for most patients for not coming for eye screening *** a high level of awareness,only 21.9% had recorded HbA1c level of screening patients,the appropriate eye care-seeking behavior was comparatively less and should be rectified to prevent the rise of this sight threatening eye disease.
