Oxidative stress has been shown to play an important role in the pathogenesis of acute pancreatitis (AP). Antioxidants, alone or in combination with conventional therapy, should improve oxidative-stress-induced organ damage and therefore accelerate the rate of recovery. In recent years, substantial amounts of data about the efficiency of antioxidants against oxidative damage have been obtained from experiments with rodents. Some of these antioxidants have been found beneficial in the treatment of AP in humans; however, at present there is insufficient clinical data to support the benefits of antioxidants, alone or in combination with conven-tional therapy, in the management of AP in humans. Conflicting results obtained from experimental animals and humans may represent distinct pathophysiological mechanisms mediating tissue injury in different species. Further detailed studies should be done to clarify the exact mechanisms of tissue injury in human AP. Herein I tried to review the existing experimental and clinical studies on AP in order to determine the efficiency of antioxidants. The use of antioxidant enriched nutrition is a potential direction of clinical research in AP given the lack of clues about the efficiency and safety of antioxidant usage in patients with AP.

Although the liver has a high regenerative capacity,as a result of massive hepatocyte death,liver failure occurs. In addition to liver failure,for acute,chronic and hereditary diseases of the liver,cell transplantation therapies can stimulate regeneration or at least ensure sufficient function until liver transplantation can be performed. The lack of donor organs and the risks of rejection have prompted extensive experimental and clinical research in the field of cellular transplantation. Transplantation of cell lineages involved in liver regeneration,including mature hepatocytes,fetal hepatocytes,fetal liver progenitor cells,fetal stem cells,hepatic progenitor cells,hepatic stem cells,mesenchymal stem cells,hematopoietic stem cells,and peripheral blood and umbilical cord blood stem cells,have been found to be beneficial in the treatment of liver *** this article,the results of experimental and clinical cell transplantation trials for liver failure are reviewed,with an emphasis on regeneration.

ADVeNTURe on Windows is a collection of finite element modules including ADVeNTUReolid ported to Microsoft Windows for use in a single CPU. It supports the iterative domain decomposition method with a preconditioner for the solution of linear equations. This paper analyzed 3 dimensional linear elastic stress problems and measured the performance of the finite element software ADVeNTURe on Windows. A complete finite element analysis from CAD design to visualization was performed in this research successfully. Two simple models have been considered for the linear elastic problems. Computational results show the computation time, required memory, convergence criteria and some limitations of the software.

AIM: To investigate the role of oxidative injury and the effect of exogenous melatonin administration on liver damage induced by bile duct ligation (BDL), and second,to evaluate the role of nitric oxide (NO), a free oxygen radical, in oxidative ***: Thirty-two Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to four groups: sham operation (SO), BDL, BDL+melatonin,and BDL+vehicle. Cholestasis was achieved by double ligature of the common bile duct. Melatonin was injected intraperitoneally 500 μg/(kg.d) for 8 d. Hepatic oxidative stress markers were evaluated by changes in the amount of lipid peroxides, measured as malondialdehyde (MDA),and reduced GSH. Total nitrite (NOx) concentrations were determined in hepatic homogenates. Histopathological examination was performed using a histological scoring ***: The histopathological changes including portal inflammation, necrosis, apoptosis, focal inflammation and fibrosis were severe in the BDL and BDL+vehicle groups. There were numerous large areas of coagulation necrosis. Histological Activity Index scores of these groups were significantly higher than that of the SO group. Treatment with melatonin reduced these alterations significantly. The degree of necro-infiammation and fibrosis showed significant difference between the BDL and BDL+melatonin groups. BDL was accompanied by a significant increase in MDA and NOx, and a significant decrease in GSH levels. Mean±Se values of MDA, GSH and NOx levels of SO group were 147.47±6.69, 0.88±0.33 μmol/g and 180.70±6.58 nm/g, respectively. The values of BDL group were 200.14±21.30, 0.65±0.02 μmol/g, and 400.46±48.89 nm/g, respectively, whereas the values of BDL+melatonin group were 115.93±6.8, 0.74±0.02 μmol/g,and 290.38±32.32 nm/g, respectively. The effect of Tramadol on Blood Glucose Levels in Rats

The Background: Tramadol, is a central acting analgesic that possesses weak affinity for the μ-opioid receptor and modifies transmission of nociceptive impulses through inhibition of monoamine reuptake. This study was designed to determine the effect of tramadol on blood glucose levels and also to investigate whether or not alpha-2 adrenergic receptors were responsible for this effect. Methods: Twenty-five Wistar male rats were assigned to four groups to receive: Group I: saline;Group II: tramadol (1 mg·kg-1);Group III and Group IV: pretreatment with a2-receptor antagonist drugs yohimbine (1 mg·kg-1) or idazoxan (1 mg·kg-1), 30 min before administration of tramadol (1 mg·kg-1). Samples for plasma glucose measurement were withdrawn at 0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes of the experiment. Results: A significant rise in blood glucose levels was observed following administration of i.v. tramadol. Pretreatment with both yohimbine and idazoxan (1 mg·kg-1) significantly attenuated tramadol-induced hyperglycemia. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that, tramadol administered at an analgesic dose of 1 mg·kg-1 produces hyperglycemia in diethyl ether anesthetized rats. Reversal of this effect with a2-adrenoceptor blocking agents suggests that monoaminergic pathways which contribute to the analgesic action of tramadol, may have a role in the hyperglycemic action of the drug.

Change orders have a significant impact on many aspects of construction *** are known to be the primary cause of litigation in the construction *** orders are almost inevitable due to the uniqueness of each project from many perspectives,such as the type of building,complexity of the design,human factors,and the available *** orders are the formal mechanism to implement design changes during the execution *** changes are usually the outcome of lack of visualization by the owner,misunderstanding,miscommunication between different parties involved in the project,shortage in resources,and other *** research aims to investigate and rank causes,effects,and control measures of change orders in the construction industry in the *** research presents the results of a questionnaire surveying owners,contractors,and consultants.A total of 123 industry professionals in the Architecture,engineering,and Construction(AeC)field,with either significant or final decision-making authority on reviewing,issuing,and approving change orders responded to the *** indicated that owners are the primary source followed by consultants and contractors,*** of the more important control measures identified in this research are collaboration and visualization technologies.

The design process of the built environment relies on the collaborative effort of all parties involved in the *** the design phase,owners,end users,and their representatives are expected to make the most critical design and budgetary decisions-shaping the essential traits of the project,hence emerge the need and necessity to create and integrate mechanisms to support the decision-making *** decisions should not be based on assumptions,past experiences,or *** example of the numerous problems that are a result of uninformed design decisions is“change orders”,known as the deviation from the original scope of work,which leads to an increase of the overall cost,and changes to the construction schedule of the *** long-term aim of this inquiry is to understand the user’s behavior,and establish evidence-based control measures,which are actions and processes that can be implemented in practice to decrease the volume and frequency of the occurrence of change *** current study developed a foundation for further examination by proposing potential control measures,and testing their efficiency,such as integrating Virtual Reality(VR).The specific aim was to examine the effect of different visualization methods(i.e.,VR *** drawings)on,(1)how well the subjects understand the information presented about the future/planned environment;(2)the subjects’perceived confidence in what the future environment will look like;(3)the likelihood of changing the built environment;(4)design review time;and(5)accuracy in reviewing and understanding the design.
