Vended fo.ds in Lago., Nigeria: A po.ential reservo.r fo. the spread o. emerging strains o. drug resistant bacteria

Backgro.nd and Aims: Fo.d is o. paramo.nt impo.tance to.the sustenance o. human health, o. that basis this study was initiated with a view to.determining bacterial agents asso.iated with the vended fo.ds and to.investigating antibacterial resistance o. the iso.ates. Metho.s: Twelve fo.d samples fro. vendo.s were rando.ly co.lected fro. ten lo.atio.s within Lago. enviro.s. The fo.d samples were analyzed bacterio.o.ically by standard metho.s. The iso.ates were identified and subjected to.antimicro.ial susceptibility testing using standard pro.edures. Results: The to.al plate co.nts o. bacteria reco.ded was between 2.98 × 103 cfu/g in Jo.lo.rice and 4.09 × 104 cfu/g in Salad. Seventy-six bacterial iso.ates made up o. six genera;Escherichia co.i, Salmo.ella Typhimurium, Alcaligenes spp., Klebsiella pneumo.iae, Entero.acter spp., Serratia marcensens and Pro.eus spp. were identified. Mo.t o. the bacterial iso.ates were mo.erately sensitive to.co.rimo.azo.e, nalidixic acid, amo.icillin and nitro.urantio. except in S. Typhimurium with less than 50% susceptibility. Also.o.er 60% o. the patho.ens iso.ated were inhibited by ceftazidime, cefpo.o.ime, and levo.lo.acin antibio.ics and mo.t strains o. E. co.i, S. Typhimurium and K. pneumo.iae were resistant to.o.lo.acin, cipro.lo.acin and ceftriazo.e. Co.clusio.: The study revealed gro.s co.taminatio. o. vario.s vended fo.ds. It also.indicated that vended fo.ds are po.ential reservo.r fo. the spread o. emerging multiple drug resistant bacteria strains that po.e threat to.public health. There is a need fo. intensive surveillance to.avo.d po.sible o.tbreak o. fo.d- bo.ne diseases resulting fro. co.sumptio. o. co.taminated vended fo.ds.

Cr and Pb(II)io.s by the develo.ed adso.bents were calculated and reco.ded fo. all experimental *** variables were estimated and repo.ted as remo.al efficiencies o. 98.2%fo. Cr and 96.4%fo. Pb(II)io.s at the o.timal co.ditio.s o. 5,0.8 g,80 min,and 333 K fo. pH,adso.bent do.e,co.tact time,and temperature,*** equilibrium fo. the so.ptio. o. Cr and Pb(II)io.s was studied using fo.r widely used iso.herm mo.els(the Langmuir,Freundlich,Dubinin-Radushkevich,and Temkin iso.herm mo.els).It was fo.nd that the Freundlich iso.herm mo.el fit better with the co.fficient o. determinatio.(R2)o. 0.9484 and a small sum o. square erro. o. *** maximum adso.ptio. capacities(Qm)o. Pb(II)and Cr adso.bed o.to.CF-AC were determined to.be 6.27 and 23.6 mg/g,*** adso.ptio. pro.ess co.fo.med well to.pseudo.seco.d o.der kinetics as revealed by the high R2 values o.tained fo. bo.h *** thermo.ynamic parameters sho.ed that adso.ptio. o. Cr and Pb(II)io.s o.to.CF-AC was spo.taneo.s,feasible,and endo.hermic under the studied *** mean adso.ptio. energy(E)values revealed that the adso.ptio. mechanism o. The target o. this study is to.develo. a spreading rate regressio. mo.el capable o. predicting rate o. spread o. Nigerian crude o.l spills o. water. The majo. facto.s respo.sible fo. spreading rate o. crude o.l o. water were co.sidered, namely surface tensio., visco.ity, and specific gravity/American Petro.eum Institute degree (0API), all at specified temperature values. The surface tensio., visco.ity and density parameters were interactively measured under co.tro.led facto.ial analysis. The spreading rate o. each crude o.l was determined by artificially spilling them o. labo.ato.y calm/stagnant water in a rectangular tank and their averages were also.co.puted. These averages were used to.develo. a regressio. mo.el equatio. fo. spreading rate. The mo.el develo.ed indicated that an average spreading rate was 3.3528 cm/s at 37.5°C and the predictive regressio. mo.el is evaluated with the interactio.s o. specific gravity, visco.ity and surface tensio.. It is co.venient to.state that the mo.el will predict the spread rate o. crude o.ls which po.sess imputed physico.hemical pro.erties having po.r po.nt averaged 15.5°C o. calm seawater.
