Bacterial microbiome of Coptotermes curvignathus （Isoptera： Rhinotermitidae） reflects the coevolution of species and dietary pattern

Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren is capable of feeding on living trees. This ability is attributed to their effective digestive system that is furnished by the termite＇s own cellulolytic enzymes and cooperative enzymes produced by their gut microbes. In this study, the identity of an array of diverse microbes residing in the gut of C. curvignathus was revealed by sequencing the near-full-length 16S rRNA genes. A total of 154 bacterial phylotypes were found. The Bacteroidetes was the most abundant phylum and accounted for about 65% of the gut microbial profile. This is followed by Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Spirochetes, Proteobacteria, TM7, Deferribacteres, Planctomycetes, Ferrucomicrobia, and Termite Group 1. Based on the phylogenetic study, this symbiosis can be a result of long coevolution of gut enterotypes with the phylogenic distribution, strong selection pressure in the gut, and other speculative pressures that determine bacterial biome to follow. The phylogenetic distribution of cloned rRNA genes in the bacterial domain that was considerably different from other termite reflects the strong selection pressures in the gut where a proportional composition of gut microbiome of C. curvignathus has established. The selection pressures could be linked to the unique diet preference of C. curvignathus that profoundly feeds on living trees. The delicate gut microbiome composition may provide available nutrients to the host as well as potential protection against opportunistic pathogen.

Detection of Left Ventricular Cavity from Cardiac MRI Images Using Faster R-CNN

The automatic localization of the left ventricle(LV)in short-axis magnetic resonance(MR)images is a required step to process cardiac images using convolutional neural networks for the extraction of a region of interest(ROI).The precise extraction of the LV’s ROI from cardiac MRI images is crucial for detecting heart disorders via cardiac segmentation or ***,this task appears to be intricate due to the diversities in the size and shape of the LV and the scattering of surrounding tissues across different ***,this study proposed a region-based convolutional network(Faster R-CNN)for the LV localization from short-axis cardiac MRI images using a region proposal network(RPN)integrated with deep feature classification and *** was trained using images with corresponding bounding boxes(labels)around the LV,and various experiments were applied to select the appropriate layers and set the suitable *** experimental findings showthat the proposed modelwas adequate,with accuracy,precision,recall,and F1 score values of 0.91,0.94,0.95,and 0.95,*** model also allows the cropping of the detected area of LV,which is vital in reducing the computational cost and time during segmentation and classification ***,itwould be an ideal model and clinically applicable for diagnosing cardiac diseases.

Lignosus rhinocerus is a highly valued medicinal mushroom traditionally consumed by the indigenous communities of Southeast Asia as treatment for numerous ailments,some of which are linked to its antioxidative *** the antioxidative capacity of *** has been established in vitro,lack of translational studies are available on the effect of *** in the pathogenesis of diseases driven by high oxidative *** study aims to investigate the in vivo antioxidative effects of cultivated Lignosus rhinocerus(TM02®)sclerotia in a multifaceted in vivo model of oxidative stress,induced by chronic hyperglycemia associated with diabetes.A type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)rodent model was generated using a high-fat diet in combination with low dose streptozotocin after which TM02®cultivar,at a dose of 200 mg/kg,was administered orally for 14 *** rats treated with TM02®cultivar had decreased plasma AGEs concentration,complemented with improved mitochondrial respiratory function associated with elevated cardiac and skeletal muscle ATP concentrations in both diabetic and non diabetic ***,TM02®cultivar-treated rats have improved glycemic control,with the potential ability to induce insulin *** findings revealed that TM02®exhibits antioxidative effects to potentially alleviate diabetes-related complications associated with AGEs accumulation,with significant effects in enhancing mitochondrial function and energy production.

Adsorptive removal and dynamic interaction of three different pharmaceutical pollutants,namely rifampicin(RIF),streptomycin(STM),and ibuprofen(IBU)onto chitosan were systematically investigated using a batch adsorption technique at different processing *** this study,chitosan was derived from mud-crab shells,as an innovative way to use the waste from marine foods as *** kinetics,intraparticle diffusion,mechanism,and thermodynamics of the adsorption were systematically evaluated and analyzed using kinetic models,Boyd mass transfer and WebereMorris intraparticle diffusion models,Langmuir,Freundlich,DubinineRadushkevich,and Temkin isotherm models,and the Gibbs *** adsorption isotherm of the larger molecules,RIF and STM,could be explained by the Langmuir isotherm model,in contrast,that of IBU,which is a much smaller molecule,followed the Freundlich isotherm *** maximum adsorption capacity of RIF,STM,and IBU on chitosan was estimated to be 66.91 mg g^(-1),11.00 mg g^(-1),and 24.21 mg g^(-1),respectively,which are higher compared to those on a variety of agricultural wastes,suggesting that this biopolymer is a potential practical and economical adsorbent to remove the pharmaceutical compounds from *** adsorption mechanism of the pharmaceutical compounds on chitosan is proposed based on the vibrational spectroscopic analyses,XRD patterns,and DSC thermograms of the biopolymer before and after adsorption process.
