IoTFLiP： IoT-based flipped learning platform for medical education

Case-Based Learning （CBL） has become an effective pedagogy for student-centered learning in medical education, which is founded on persistent patient cases. Flippped learning and Internet of Things （IoTs） concepts have gained significant attention in recent years. Using these concepts in conjunction with CBL can improve learning ability by providing real evolutionary medical eases. It also enables students to build confidence in their decision making, and efficiently enhances teamwork in the learning environment. We propose an IoT-based Flip Learning Platform, called IoTFLiP, where an IoT infrastrneture is exploited to support flipped case-based learning in a cloud environment with state of the art security and privacy measures for personalized medical data. It also provides support for application delivery in private, public, and hybrid approaches. The proposed platform is an extension of our Interactive Case-Based Flipped Learning Tool （ICBFLT）, which has been developed based on current CBL practices. ICBFLT formulates summaries of CBL cases through synergy between students＇ and medical expert knowledge. The low cost and reduced size of sensor device, support of IoTs, and recent flipped learning advancements can enhance medical students＇ academic and practical experiences. In order to demonstrate a working scenario for the proposed IoTFLiP platform, real-time data from IoTs gadgets is collected to generate a real-world case for a medical student using ICBFLT.

The present outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has swiftly crossed borders,and inflicted the global mental health *** is also affecting peoples’daily behaviours,economics,prevention strategies and decision-making among policymakers,healthcare organisations and medical centres that may unintentionally weaken COVID-19 control strategies and lead to increased morbidity,as well as mental health care needs ***,this outbreak is leading to further health complications worldwide,such as stress,fear of the unknown,anger,anxiety,denial,depression symptoms,and *** all the resources used to counter the spread of the virus,further universal strategies are desirable to address the associated mental health *** present study uses the qualitative means to investigate the potential impact of COVID-19,the consequences and legal aspects,then recommend policy implications,in an attempt to cover any apparent *** presents a unique analysis of its kind on the policy and legal aspects of the ongoing pandemic,as regards mental *** concludes that there is an acute need to prioritising the health care and curative issues,strengthen awareness and address the psychological syndromes or similar complications afflicting members of the general public during this pandemic.

Beneficial root-associated rhizospheric microbes play a key role in maintaining host plant growth and can potentially allow drought-resilient crop production. The complex interaction of root-associated microbes mainly depends on soil type, plant genotype, and soil moisture. However, drought is the most devastating environmental stress that strongly reduces soil biota and can restrict plant growth and yield. In this review, we discussed our mechanistic understanding of drought and microbial response traits. Additionally, we highlighted the role of beneficial microbes and plant-derived metabolites in alleviating drought stress and improving crop growth. We proposed that future research might focus on evaluating the dynamics of root-beneficial microbes under field drought conditions. The integrative use of ecology, microbial, and molecular approaches may serve as a promising strategy to produce more drought-resilient and sustainable crops.

Malaria remains a major public health challenge *** is one of the world’s deadliest diseases,responsible for 627000 deaths worldwide in 2020 alone[1].In Malaysia,the Malaria Eradication Programme in Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysia Borneo in 1969 and 1967,respectively,drastically reduced the number of malaria cases in the country[2].Subsequently,the programme was further reinforced and improved,resulting in zero indigenous human malaria species in 2018[1].Currently,Malaysia has been identified as one of the World Health Organization(WHO)Western Pacific Region countries with zero indigenous cases for three consecutive years[1],thus eligible for the WHO certification of a malaria-free status country.

Numerical Analysis on Wood Pyrolysis in Pre-Vacuum Chamber

In the previous experimental work, a new technology system for wood pyrolysis was developed to aim at mitigating climate change, global warming, and energy crisis as well as enhancing low electrification in rural areas in developing countries. The new technology system equipped with a pre-vacuum chamber requires low cost and less maintenance. However, large wood pyrolysis in the pre-vacuum chamber is rather complicated. To obtain a good understanding of the previous experimental results, a numerical analysis taking account of heat-mass transfer and chemical reaction is carried out. Two-step general reaction model is proposed for the numerical analysis. The first stage is volatile and char formation from the wood pieces and the second state is decomposition of the volatile to five species including vapor of tar. In this analysis, chemical formulae of the volatile and the tar are successfully identified hypothetically. The results obtained by this numerical analysis can explain the experimental results reasonably and provide useful information about time evolution of volatile formation, temperature change in pre-vacuum chamber with time, and species mole concentration decomposed from the volatile.

Can outer-to-outer diameter be used alone in diagnosing appendicitis on 128-slice MDCT?

AIM: To assess the frequency of visualization, position and diameter of normal appendix on 128-slice multidetector computed tomography(MDCT) in adult ***: Retrospective cross sectional study conducted at Radiology Department, Dallah Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from March 2013 to October 2013. Non-enhanced computed tomography scans of abdomen and pelvis of 98 patients presenting with hematuria(not associated with abdominal pain, fever or colonic disease) were reviewed by two radiologists, blinded to patient history. The study group included 55 females and 43 males with overall mean age of 54.7 years(range 21 to 94 years). The coronal reformatted images were reviewed in addition to the axial images. The frequency of visualization of appendix was recorded with assessment of position, diameter and luminal ***: The appendix was recorded as definitely visualized in 99% of patients and mean outer-to-outer diameter of the appendix was 5.6 ± 1.3 mm(range 3.0-11.0 mm).CONCLUSION: MDCT with its multiplanar reformation display is extremely useful for visualization of normal appendix. The normal appendix is very variable in its position and diameter. In the absence of other signs, the diagnosis of acute appendix should not be made solely on outer-to-outer appendiceal diameter.

Wood Pyrolysis in Pre-Vacuum Chamber

Climate change, global warming, and energy crisis are critical issues to be solved urgently in a global framework. Alternative energy and renewable energy technologies must be quickly developed to be substituted for fossil fuels like oil, gases, and coal. USA, UE, and Japan invested huge budgets to develop biomass renewable energy technology. Their target is to develop a commercial base large-scaled plant. On the other hand, in developing countries, especially in rural areas, people who can access electricity is still less than 70%, To decelerate or prevent global warming and improve electrification in rural areas, a new technology for wood pyrolysis, which requires low manufacturing cost and less maintenance, and of which gases are directly applicable to the gas engine generator, is developed in a laboratory scale. This paper reports the performance of this new plant and effects of several parameters on the performance. It is concluded that the new technology is quite feasible in rural areas, and upgrading of the plant is easily possible.

社交媒体直播的快速发展推动了受众的大量参与。现有的文献主要讨论了销售多类产品的直播者如何吸引受众并完成销售。很少有人探讨过,作为拥有在线商店的官方账户的品牌,如何利用直播来提高品牌竞争力和顾客的长期购买意向。本研究调查了微信品牌商店的直播营销和广告对品牌竞争力的影响,以及如何影响消费者特别是年轻一代消费者的购买决策,以及这些影响的传播程度。为完成研究目标,2022年5月25日至8月25日,本研究在全国范围内进行了问卷调查,共回收有效问卷400份。通过Smart PLS软件对原始数据的结果进行了定量分析,分析结果显示这项研究的一些非常有趣的结果,涉及到直播者的个性特征、直播者与受众的互动性水平和直播信息诉求对品牌的影响。首先,在个人特质方面,研究表明直播者的自然特质会影响品牌的竞争力;其次,直播者和观众之间的互动性(反应和参与的速度)有助于品牌竞争力,而且,直播者表现出来的信息诉求(情感和理性诉求,以触动观众并影响他们对品牌的态度),也会影响品牌竞争力。最后,正如本研究结果所显示的那样,品牌能力创造了一个良性循环,有助于观看直播的受众持续购买具有品牌竞争力的产品。因此,研究者建议公司和品牌更加重视他们对直播这一营销工具的参与程度。本研究丰富了移动互联网时代与消费者行为和广告有关的文献。作为微信官方品牌商店直播方面最早的研究之一,本文为在这一领域的定量研究提供了重要结论。

Quantifying of Paraplegic Patient Facial Agitation Based on Fuzzy k-NN

A non-specific symptom of one or more physical, or psychological processes in which screaming, shouting, complaining, moaning, cursing, pacing, fidgeting or wandering pose risk or discomfort, become disruptive or unsafe or interfere with the delivery of care are called agitation. Individuals in agitation manifest their condition through ＂pain behavior＂, which includes facial expressions. Clinicians regard the patient＇s facial expression as a valid indicator for pain and pain intensity. Hence, correct interpretation of the facial agitation of the patient and its correlation with pain is a fundamental step in designing an automated pain assessment system. Computer vision techniques can be used to quantify agitation in sedated patients in Intensive Care Unit （ICU）. In particular, such techniques can be used to develop objective agitation measurements from patient motion. In the case of paraplegic patients, whole body movement is not available, and hence, monitoring the whole body motion is not a viable solution. Hence in this case, the author measured head motion and facial grimacing for quantifying facial patient agitation in critical care based on Fuzzy k-NN.
