Dear Editor,Fruit rot caused by necrotrophic pathogens results in substantial reductions in fruit yield and revenues worldwide(Petrasch et al.,2019).A widespread phenomenon in fleshy fruit species is the susceptibility of ripe fruits to necrotrophs(Silva et al.,2021),which facilitates seed dispersal(Forlani et al.,2019)but causes severe post-harvest losses in *** most of the nutritional and sensory qualities of fruits are elaborated at the ripening stage(Liu et al.,2015),balancing fruit ripening and pathogen resistance to maintain fruit quality has proven to be challenging.A deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying the increased susceptibility of fruits to necrotrophs during ripening could lead to new strategies for producing necrotrophy-resistant fruits without compromising ripening-relatedquality.

This study focuses on the impact of climate change, specifically the increasing threat of heatwaves, in Pakistan, with a particular emphasis on the city of Karachi. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) analysed a century of climatic data to reveal warming trends, attributing them to human-induced factors. The vulnerability of Pakistan to climate change is highlighted, given its warm climate and location in a region where temperature increases are expected to surpass global averages. The study examines the past three decades, noting a significant rise in the frequency of hot days, especially in Karachi, where heatwaves have become more prevalent. The aims and objectives of the study involve identifying temporal changes in temperature, rainfall, humidity, and wind speed from 1984 to 2014 in Karachi. The literature review emphasizes the health implications of heatwaves, citing increased mortality during such events globally. The study incorporates a comprehensive temporal analysis, addressing gaps in previous research by considering multiple climate indicators responsible for heatwaves. The methodology involves statistical analyses, including linear regression and Pearson correlation, applied to temperature data and urbanization parameters. Results indicate an increasing trend in heat index temperature, with heatwave vulnerability peaking in the last three decades. Heat Index Temperature Anomalies show a clear surge, emphasizing the need for new indices to control critical heat stress conditions. The study concludes that tropical climate variability, particularly heat index, is linked to extreme hot days, urging measures to reduce population vulnerability. The findings underscore the importance of policy strategies, such as integrated coastal zone management, to mitigate the adverse health effects of heatwaves in Karachi’s vulnerable population.

Enormousmethods have been proposed for the detection and segmentation of blur and non-blur regions of the *** to the limited available information about blur type,scenario and the level of blurriness,detection and segmentation is a challenging ***,the performance of the blur measure operator is an essential factor and needs improvement to attain *** this paper,we propose an effective blur measure based on local binary pattern(LBP)with adaptive threshold for blur *** sharpness metric developed based on LBP used a fixed threshold irrespective of the type and level of blur,that may not be suitable for images with variations in imaging conditions,blur amount and ***,the proposed measure uses an adaptive threshold for each input image based on the image and blur properties to generate improved sharpness *** adaptive threshold is computed based on the model learned through support vector machine(SVM).The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using two different datasets and is compared with five state-of-the-art *** analysis reveals that the proposed method performs significantly better qualitatively and quantitatively against all of the compared methods.
