These days, there is a lot of discussion about genetically modified plants. There are different schools of thoughts in public, and some people adjusted while others are reluctant to accept genetically modified organism foods. Many vegetables are transformed and are used in daily life. Chili is one of those which is genetically modified and used in our food. Race specific genes can be used more efficiently for disease resistance and improving metabolic pathways. Different genes and transcriptional factors are available in Capsicum for this purpose. We can optimize and use the better expressed genes while engineering the chili plants, Genetic modifications causing significant changes are related with metabolism, which cause disease resistance.

A consensus meeting of national experts from all major national hepatobiliary centres in the country was held on May 26,2023,at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute&Research Centre(PKLI&RC)after initial consultations with the *** Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases(PSSLD)and PKLI&RC jointly organised this *** effort was based on a comprehensive literature review to establish national practice guidelines for hilar cholangiocarcinoma(hCCA).The consensus was that hCCA is a complex disease and requires a multidisciplinary team approach to best manage these *** coordinated effort can minimise delays and give patients a chance for curative treatment and effective *** diagnostic and staging workup includes high-quality computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging,and magnetic resonance *** cytology or biopsy utilizing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a mainstay for ***,histopathologic confirmation is not always required before *** ultrasound with fine needle aspiration of regional lymph nodes and positron emission tomography scan are valuable adjuncts for *** only curative treatment is the surgical resection of the biliary tree based on the Bismuth-Corlette *** patients with unresectable hCCA can be considered for liver *** chemotherapy should be offered to patients with a high risk of *** use of preoperative biliary drainage and the need for portal vein embolisation should be based on local multidisciplinary *** with acute cholangitis can be drained with endoscopic or percutaneous biliary *** chemotherapy with cisplatin and gemcitabine has shown improved survival in patients with irresectable and recurrent hCCA.

Evaluation and Commissioning of Commercial Monte Carlo Dose Algorithm for Air Cavity

The purpose of this study was to compare the Pencil Beam (PB) with Monte Carlo (MC) calculated dosimetric results using phantoms for air cavity region. Measurements in Tough water phantom with air gaps were used to verify the calculated dose. The plane-parallel ionization chamber was moved from 2 mm to 20 mm behind air gap. Calculations were performed for various air gaps (1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 cm) and field sizes (4.2 × 4.2, 6.0 × 6.0 and 9.8 × 9.8 cm2). The lateral missing tissue measurement was performed using the radiochromic RT-QA film. Dose difference between PB and chamber measurement near an air gap was greater for smaller field size, larger air gap thickness, and shallower depth behind air gap. As the distance from the phantom edge became shorter, the dose differences of the PB calculation and film measurement became larger. MC calculations were found within 3% agreement to the measured dose distributions. Our results demonstrate an excellent agreement between ionization chamber and radiochromic RT-QA film measurements and MC calculations.

Effect of Different Levels of Nitrogen on Yield of Colocasia (<i>Colocasia esculenta</i>) at District Malakand Dargai

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the response of colocasia (Colocasia esculenta) to different levels of 0, 60, 90, 120 and 150 kg N ha-1 under farmer’s field condition at Garhi usmani Khel, District Malakand Dargai during 2013. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block design with three replications and treatment plot size of 2.74 × 2.43 m2. All levels of N in the form of urea along with uniform basal doze of 90 kg P2O5 ha-1 as Triple Super Phosphate (TSPPP) were applied to soil at time of seed bed followed by thorough mixing. Seeds of colocasia c.v. local variety were sown in these plots with row spacing of 30 cm and plant to plant distance of 12 cm in February, 2013. The results showed that application of N produced significantly higher colocasia tuber yield, number of tubers plant-1, 1000-tubers weight and size of tubers (mean length and diameter) over control but the differences among levels of N were nonsignificant. However, some parameters like tuber yield was maximum at 60 kg N ha-1 and tuber size especially the length of colocasia tuber was maximum at 150 kg N ha-1 suggesting that the response of each parameter was different to N levels. Based on maximum relative yield (100%) and increase over control (46.1%) still at lower N levels of 60 kg N ha-1, this level seems to be appropriate level for colocasia under the prevailing soil and climatic conditions.
