t.ansport.t.on syst.ms primarily depend on vehicular flow on roads. Developed coun-t.ies have shift.d t.wards aut.mat.d signal cont.ol, which manages and updat.s signal synchronisat.on aut.mat.cally. In cont.ast. t.affic in underdeveloped count.ies is mainly governed by manual t.affic light.syst.ms. t.ese exist.ng manual syst.ms lead t. numerous issues, wast.ng subst.nt.al resources such as t.me, energy, and fuel, as t.ey cannot.make real‐t.me decisions. In t.is work, we propose an algorit.m t. det.rmine t.affic signal durat.ons based on real‐t.me vehicle densit., obt.ined from live closed circuit.t.levision camera feeds adjacent.t. t.affic signals. t.e algorit.m aut.mat.s t.e t.affic light.syst.m, making decisions based on vehicle densit. and employing Fast.r R‐CNN for vehicle det.ct.on. Addit.onally, we have creat.d a local dat.set.from live st.eams of Punjab Safe Cit. cameras in collaborat.on wit. t.e local police aut.orit.. t.e proposed algorit.m achieves a class accuracy of 96.6% and a vehicle det.ct.on accuracy of 95.7%. Across bot. day and night.modes, our proposed met.od maint.ins an average precision, recall, F1 score, and vehicle det.ct.on accuracy of 0.94, 0.98, 0.96 and 0.95, respect.vely. Our proposed work surpasses all evaluat.on met.ics compared t. st.t.‐of‐t.e‐art.met.odologies.
