Dynamic Response and Deformation Behavior of Kadui-2 Landslide Influenced by Reservoir Impoundment and Rainfall,Baoxing,China

This study focuses on the deformation characteristics of Kadui-2 Landslide by the influence of reservoir filling-drawdown and precipitation.A three-year monitoring project was implemented in order to observe the short/long-term deformation.The slide mass experienced consistent deformation with a maximum cumulative displacement of 331.34 cm.Based on the recorded data of reservoir water level and precipitation during this period,a two-dimensional(2-D)finite element model using Geostudio software was set up for deformation simulation under different conditions to understand the real influence of these triggering factors on landslide.The numerical simulation results are in consistent with monitoring field data.Both numerical simulation and field monitoring results exhibit that the maximum deformation occurred at the foreside of slumping mass.The slip surface shows significant creep characteristics decreasing as long-term shear strength reducing gradually.Reservoir water level fluctuation is the primary triggering factor to reactivate the landslide mass and has a negative correlation with deformation rate.Displacement rate increases with the reservoir drawdown and decreases with impoundment rise.Compared with reservoir filling-drawdown operation,rainfall has no significant effect on the slide motion of landslide due to limited penetration from the ground surface.

Communication is a basic need of every human being to exchange thoughts and interact with the society.Acute peoples usually confab through different spoken languages,whereas deaf people cannot do so.Therefore,the Sign Language(SL)is the communication medium of such people for their conversation and interaction with the society.The SL is expressed in terms of specific gesture for every word and a gesture is consisted in a sequence of performed signs.The acute people normally observe these signs to understand the difference between single and multiple gestures for singular and plural words respectively.The signs for singular words such as I,eat,drink,home are unalike the plural words as school,cars,players.A special training is required to gain the sufficient knowledge and practice so that people can differentiate and understand every gesture/sign appropriately.Innumerable researches have been performed to articulate the computer-based solution to understand the single gesture with the help of a single hand enumeration.The complete understanding of such communications are possible only with the help of this differentiation of gestures in computer-based solution of SL to cope with the real world environment.Hence,there is still a demand for specific environment to automate such a communication solution to interact with such type of special people.This research focuses on facilitating the deaf community by capturing the gestures in video format and then mapping and differentiating as single or multiple gestures used in words.Finally,these are converted into the respective words/sentences within a reasonable time.This provide a real time solution for the deaf people to communicate and interact with the society.

Communication is a basic need of every human being;by this,they can learn,express their feelings and exchange their ideas,but deaf people cannot listen and speak.For communication,they use various hands gestures,also known as Sign Language(SL),which they learn from special schools.As normal people have not taken SL classes;therefore,they are unable to perform signs of daily routine sentences(e.g.,what are the specifications of this mobile phone?).A technological solution can facilitate in overcoming this communication gap by which normal people can communicate with deaf people.This paper presents an architecture for an application named Sign4PSL that translates the sentences to Pakistan Sign Language(PSL)for deaf people with visual representation using virtual signing character.This research aims to develop a generic independent application that is lightweight and reusable on any platform,including web and mobile,with an ability to perform offline text translation.The Sign4PSL relies on a knowledge base that stores both corpus of PSL Words and their coded form in the notation system.Sign4PSL takes English language text as an input,performs the translation to PSL through sign language notation and displays gestures to the user using virtual character.The system is tested on deaf students at a special school.The results have shown that the students were able to understand the story presented to them appropriately.

Breast cancer resistance protein(BCRP)is an important resistance protein that significantly impacts anticancer drug discovery,treatment,and rehabilitation.Early identification of BCRP substrates is quite a challenging task.This study aims to predict early substrate structure,which can help to optimize anticancer drug development and clinical diagnosis.For this study,a novel intelligent approach-based methodology is developed by modifying the ResNet101 model using transfer learning(TL)for automatic deep feature(DF)extraction followed by classification with linear discriminant analysis algorithm(TLRNDF-LDA).This study utilized structural fingerprints,which are exploited by DF contrary to conventional molecular descriptors.The proposed in silico model achieved an outstanding accuracy performance of 98.56%on test data compared to other state-of-the-art approaches using standard quality measures.Furthermore,the model’s efficacy is validated via a statistical analysisANOVAtest.It is demonstrated that the developedmodel can be used effectively for early prediction of the substrate structure.The pipeline of this study is flexible and can be extended for in vitro assessment efficacy of anticancer drug response,identification of BCRP functions in transport experiments,and prediction of prostate or lung cancer cell lines.

Phenological Stage, Plant Biomass, and Drought Stress Affect Microbial Biomass and Enzyme Activities in the Rhizosphere of Enteropogon macrostachyus

Indigenous grasses have been effectively used to rehabilitate degraded African drylands. Despite their success, studies examining their effects on soil bioindicators such as microbial biomass carbon(C) and enzyme activities are scarce. This study elucidates the effects of drought stress and phenological stages of a typical indigenous African grass, Enteropogon macrostachyus, on microbial biomass and enzyme activities(β-glucosidase, cellobiohydrolase, and chitinase) in the rhizosphere soil. Enteropogon macrostachyus was grown under controlled conditions. Drought stress(partial watering) was simulated during the last 10 d of plant growth, and data were compared with those from optimum moisture conditions. The rhizosphere soil was sampled after 40 d(seedling stage), 70 d(elongation stage), and 80 d(simulated drought stress). A high root:shoot ratio at seedling stage compared with elongation and reproduction stages demonstrated that E. macrostachyus invested more on root biomass in early development, to maximise the uptake of nutrients and water. Microbial biomass and enzyme activities increased with root biomass during plant growth. Ten-day drought at reproduction stage increased the microbial biomass and enzyme activities, accompanying a decrease in binding affinity and catalytic efficiency. In conclusion, drought stress controls soil organic matter decomposition and nutrient mobilization, as well as the competition between plant and microorganisms for nutrient uptake.

Tensegrity structures have identical members in an orientation that have correlated dynamics under external force.To study this interdependent dynamics in different members in compression and expansion processes,it is vital to analyze the dynamics of the whole structure.In this study,six bar tensegrity structure was studied under compression and expansion,and interdependent movement of different members of the structure in both processes was obtained.First,the relationship between external force and members force densities was analytically developed based on the assumption that each bar moves with the same distance when an external force is applied on the six bar tensegrity ball structure along one plane that either compresses or expands the structure.Then,two individual simulations were carried out to analyze the movement of each bar in compression and expansion under the effect of external force,and elongation in all strings was studied in both processes.Finally,comparative dynamic study of different members in compression and expansion of the structure with the effect of external force was performed,which were categorized according to dynamic symmetry.

Cancer is the second deadliest human disease worldwide with high mortality rate.Rehabilitation and treatment of this disease requires precise and automatic assessment of effective drug response and control system.Prediction of treated and untreated cancerous cell line is one of the most challenging problems for precise and targeted drug delivery and response.A novel approach is proposed for prediction of drug treated and untreated cancer cell line automatically by employing modified Deep neural networks.Human hepatocellular carcinoma(HepG2)cells are exposed to anticancer drug functionalized CFO@BTO nanoparticles developed by our lab.Prediction models are developed by modifying ResNet101 and exploiting the transfer learning concept.Last three layers of ResNet101 are re-trained for the identification of drug treated cancer cells.Transfer learning approach in an appropriate choice especially when there is limited amount of annotated data.The proposed technique is validated on acquired 203 fluorescentmicroscopy images of human HepG2 cells treated with drug functionalized cobalt ferrite@barium titanate(CFO@BTO)magnetoelectric nanoparticles in vitro.The developed approach achieved high prediction with accuracy of 97.5%and sensitivity of 100%and outperformed other approaches.The high performance reveals the effectiveness of the approach.It is scalable and fully automatic prediction approach which can be extended for other similar cell diseases such as lung,brain tumor and breast cancer.

Physicochemical,rheological and antioxidant profiling of yogurt prepared from non-enzymatically and enzymatically hydrolyzed potato powder under refrigeration

Evidences show that the storage period greatly affects the quality of yogurt.In this study,three types of yogurt:control yogurt(CY),non-hydrolyzed potato powder yogurt(PPY)and enzymatically hydrolyzed potato powder yogurt(EHPPY)were prepared at 42℃ for 5 h and stored for 28 days at 4℃.The yogurts were evaluated for quality characteristics at different storage periods.Negligible differences in pH values,titratable acidities and viable counts were detected in all three types of yogurt during storage.However,compared to other yogurts,EHPPY exhibited desirable water holding capacity,throughout the storage period.Apart from this,sensory properties and antioxidant activities(2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl(DPPH)free radical scavenging activity and ferric reducing antioxidant power(FRAP))of EHPPY were also significantly improved during the storage period.Furthermore,the storage(G’)and loss(G”)modulus of PPY,EHPPY were lower than CY at 4℃ while a hysteresis loop was shown by all yogurts at the temperature range of 4-50℃ indicating higher G’(elasticity)than G”(viscosity).Based on our findings,EHPP could be an important functional ingredient in improving the quality and storage stability of yogurt for its production at an industrial level.
