A Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL)incorporating zinc-oxide(ZnO)nanoparticles-based saturable absorber(SA)is proposed and *** form the SA,the ZnO nanoparticles,which are originally in the powder form,are first dissolved in ethanol and subsequently deposited onto the surface of fiber ferrule by using the adhesion effect with the evaporation *** integrating the ZnO nanoparticle-based SA into a laser cavity of an EDFL,a self-started and stable Q-switching is achieved at a low threshold power of 20.24 *** the pump power is increased,the pulse repetition rate is tunable from 10.34 kHz to 25.59 kHz while pulse duration decreases from 21.39μs to 3.65μ***,this Q-switched laser has a maximum energy per pulse of 19.34 nJ and an average output power of 0.46 *** results indicate the feasibility and functionality of the ZnO nanoparticles-based SA for Q-switched generation,which offers the flexibility and easy integration of the SA into a ring laser cavity.

Using a bidentate ligand, a Schiff base 4-（{[（Z）-（2-hydroxyphenyl）methyldene]amino}methyl）cyclohexanecarboxylic acid, complex I（ML2, where M = Cd（Ⅱ）） was synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. It crystallizes in monoclinic system, space group C2/c, Mr = 685.04, 0.34 mm × 0.26 mm × 0.14 mm, a = 54.050（3）, b = 6.1220（3）, c = 9.5081（5） ?, β = 90.229（2）°, Z = 4, C30 H40 CdN2 O9 and V = 3146.2（3） ?3. Complex I was screened for its bactericidal activity against four bacterial strains Chromohalobactersalexigens, Chromohalobacterisraelensis, Halomonashalofila and Halomonassalina and fungicidal activity against Aspergillusnigerand Aspergillusflavus. Antimicrobial activity results showed that the synthesized complex displayed good anti-fungal activity against two fungal strains. It was found to be inactive against four different bacterial strains analyzed and was negative for bactericidal effect.

Fermentation based vaccine production system is replaced by edible vaccine technology. Plant derived vaccines are produced by using transgenic plants which have immunogenic properties. For combating infectious diseases especially in developing countries there is a practical need of new technology to produce and deliver inexpensive vaccines. We have best option of plant derived edible vaccines. There are many benefits of plant derived vaccinesi.e. they are cheaper, simple and easy to administer, more stable, extra versatile, with more acceptance power and highly efficient. Some plant derived vaccines are under clinical trials to use commercially and many are under research. This paper reviews the current status and future of this technology.

Introduction: Despite its recent status of middle-income country in WHO’s South-East Asia Region, diarrhea remains an important yet unresearched public health issue in the Republic of Maldives. Methodology: We conducted a one-month cross-sectional study in children and adults with acute diarrhea at three regional hospitals in Maldives in August-September 2007 to investigate the point-prevalence of diarrhea etiologic agents. Enteric Bacteria was identified by a standard microbiology technique and isolates were submitted for antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Rotavirus, astrovirus and adenovirus were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). Real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to test for norovirus. Results: We enrolled 73 children and 57 adults with acute diarrhea. The most common pathogens detected in children were norovirus (43%) and rotavirus (18%). Vibrio parahaemolyticus (18%) and rotavirus (17%) were the most common pathogens found in adults. Multiple and mixed infections were common. All noroviruses were identified as genogroup II/type 4(GII/4). The genotype distributions of rotaviruses were G2P[4] (48%), G12P[6] (37%), G2P[6] (5%), G9P[8] (5%), and non-typeable G2 (5%). Conclusions: This study provides preliminary data on the importance of norovirus and rotavirus as diarrhea etiologic agents in Maldives. A systematic prospective diarrhea surveillance documenting disease burden, etiology, seasonal variation, as well as risk factors should be conducted for the development of public health interventions to reduce diarrhea morbidity and mortality in Maldives.

The main objective of the current work is to recover SiO2 various acid concentrations,scrubbing time,and attrition impeller speed for crystal glass *** rocks were treated using a physico-chemical method involving physical separation method using citric and sulphuric acids as the *** acid concentration range of 1%-2%and variable scrubbing time of 10,20,and 30 min were *** microstructure,phase,and particle size of the silica rocks were determined after scrubbing *** acid was found effective in improving the purity of SiO2 to 99.8%at 0.75%concentration,via a 20 min scrubbing process operated at 1,250 rpm(rotations per minute).The phase structure and morphology of the recovered SiO2 were confirmed as trigonal crystal structure with small and irregular *** date,studies on the processing of silica rock using organic acid are yet very limited.
