Stigma Receptivity Is Controlled by Functionally Redundant MAPK Pathway Components in Arabidopsis

In angiosperms,the process of pollination relies on species-specific interaction and signaling between the male(pollen)and female(pistil)counterparts where the interplay between several pollen and stigma proteins decides the fate of the pollen.In Brassicaceae,the dry stigmatic papillary cells control pollen germination by releasing resources only to compatible pollen thereby allowing pollen to hydrate and germinate.Despite the identification of a number of stigmatic proteins that facilitate pollination responses,the signaling mechanisms that regulate functions of these proteins have remained unknown.Here,we show that,in Arabidopsis,an extremely functionally redundant mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)cascade is required for maintaining stigma receptivity to accept compatible pollen.Our genetic analyses demonstrate that in stigmas,five MAPK kinases(MKKs),MKK1/2/3/7/9 are required to transmit upstream signals to two MPKs,MPK3/4,to mediate compatible pollination.Compromised functions of these five MKKs in the quintuple mutant(mkk1/2/3RNAi/mkk7/9)phenocopied pollination defects observed in the m pk4RNAi/m pk3 double mutant.We further show that this MAPK nexus converges on Exo70A1,a previously identified stigma receptivity factor essential for pollination.Given that pollination is the crucial initial step during plant reproduction,understanding the mechanisms that govern successful pollination could lead to development of strategies to improve crop yield.

近年来,可再生能源系统取得了巨大的发展。离网与并网的可再生能源发电能力已经提高,其主要理由是有可能提供既经济又环保的绿色能源。能源管理系统(Energy management system,EMS)允许各行业利用预测控制技术来促进能源供应系统以最大效率降低能源成本和电力可用性。EMS的性能取决于多目标函数的设计和标量化。所提方案包括可再生能源微电网内部的储能系统集成,包括光伏面板、燃料电池和与公用电网连接的发电机,以及在能源充足时使用电解生产和储存氢气,在能源缺乏时将其重新供应到微电网中的氢能系统。为了控制微电网能源系统中的能量流动,设计能使微电网在技术和利益上达到最佳运行状态的能量管理系统势在必行。能量管理包括事先预测负荷以及太阳能和风能的输入功率,以优化成本和燃料电池的运行,使其更具优势。本研究对基于氢技术的微电网能源管理系统进行了综合评估和分析,涵盖了策略的目标、约束和实施,以及优化方法和模拟工具。

Leveraging the Role of Dynamic Reconfigurable Antennas in Viewpoint of Industry 4.0 and Beyond

Industry 4.0 is a digital paradigm that refers to the integration of cutting-edge computing and digital technologies into global industries because of which the state of manufacturing,communication,and control of smart industries has changed altogether.Industry 4.0 has been profoundly influenced by some major disruptive technologies such as the Internet of Things(IoT),smart sensors,machine learning and artificial intelligence,cloud computing,big data analytics,advanced robotics,augmented reality,3D printing,and smart adaptive communication.In this review paper,we discuss physical layer-based solutions with a focus on high reliability and seamless connectivity for Industry 4.0 and beyond applications.First,we present a harmonized review of the industrial revolution journey,industrial communication infrastructure,key performance requirements,and potential sub-6-GHz frequency bands.Then,based on that,we present a comprehensive review of intelligent tunable dynamic antenna systems at sub-6 GHz as key enablers for next-generation smart industrial applications.State-of-the-art smart antenna techniques such as agile pattern reconfigurability using electrical components,machine learning-and artificial intelligence-based agile beam-scanning antennas,and beam-steerable dynamic metasurface antennas are thoroughly reviewed and emphasized.We unfolded the exciting prospects of reconfigurable dynamic antennas for intelligent and reliable connectivity in application scenarios of Industry 4.0 and beyond such as Industrial IoT and smart manufacturing.

Optimizing yield and chemical compositions of dimethylsulfoxide-extracted birchwood xylan

Dimethylsulfoxide(DMSO)extraction is commonly used to study the chemical structures of orig-inal xylan in the plant cell wall,since the DMSO can preserve the original structure of the xylan as much as possible during the extracting process.In addition,the DMSO-extracted xylans have unique properties allowing their potential applications in emulsifying or filming materials.How-ever,the yield of DMSO-extracted xylan is always low and the effects of different DMSO extraction conditions on the chemical compositions of xylan have not been fully studied,which greatly hin-ders its researches and applications.In this study,we have found that extensive delignification before DMSO extraction results in destruction of lignin-carbohydrate complex(LCC),leading to xylan yield and xylose unit content increased by up to 220%and 20%,respectively.Tert-butanol washing of the holocellulose can further increase the DMSO extracted xylan yield by∼10%.The yield of xylan extracted by the DMSO at 80°C for 7 h was obviously higher than that at room temperature for 3 d by 30%-40%.Thermal analysis showed that the xylans extracted at differ-ent conditions had thermal stability without obvious differences.The results indicate that the DMSO-extracted xylan with a high yield,a high purity and a high degree of acetylation can be ex-tracted at a high delignification level,a high reaction temperature and a short reaction time.This study is of great significance for studying xylan structure-property relationships and promoting the applications of DMSO-extracted xylan.

Repurposing of the widely available and relatively cheap generic cardiac glycoside digoxin for non-cardiac indications could have a wide-ranging impact on the global burden of several diseases.Over the past several years,there have been significant advances in the study of digoxin pharmacology and its potential noncardiac clinical applications,including anti-inflammatory,antineoplastic,metabolic,and antimicrobial use.Digoxin holds promise in the treatment of gastrointestinal disease,including nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and alcoholassociated steatohepatitis as well as in obesity,cancer,and treatment of viral infections,among other conditions.In this review,we provide a summary of the clinical uses of digoxin to date and discuss recent research on its emerging applications.

A systematic review of current and emergent manipulator control approaches

Pressing demands of productivity and accuracy in today＇s robotic applications have highlighted an urge to replace classical control strategies with their modem control counterparts. This recent trend is further justified by the fact that the robotic manipulators have complex nonlinear dynamic structure with uncertain parameters. Highlighting the authors＇ research achievements in the domain of manipulator design and control, this paper presents a systematic and comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art control techniques that find enormous potential in controlling manipulators to execute cutting- edge applications. In particular, three kinds of strategies, i.e., intelligent proportional-integral-derivative （PID） scheme, robust control and adaptation based approaches, are reviewed. Future trend in the subject area is commented. Open-source simulators to facilitate controller design are also tabulated. With a comprehensive list of references, it is anticipated that the review will act as a firsthand reference for researchers, engineers and industrialinterns to realize the control laws for multi-degree of freedom （DOF） manipulators.

Rate optimization using low complex methods with reconfigurable intelligent surfaces

With the help of a developing technology called reconfigurable intelligent surfaces(RISs),it is possible to modify the propagation environment and boost the data rates of wireless communication networks.In this article,we optimized the phases of the RIS elements and performed a fair power allocation for each subcarrier over the full bandwidth in a single-input-single-output(SISO)wideband system where the user and the access point(AP)are provided with a single antenna.The data rate or its equivalent channel power is maximized by proposing different low-complex algorithms.The strongest tap maximization(STM)and power methods are compared with the semidefinite relaxation(SDR)method in terms of computational complexity and data rate performance.Runtime and complexity analysis of the suggested methods are computed and compared to reveal the actual time consumption and the required number of operations for each method.Simulation results show that with an optimized RIS,the sum rate is 2.5 times higher than with an unconfigured surface,demonstrating the RIS's tremendous advantages even in complex configurations.The data rate performance of the SDR method is higher than the power method and less than the STM method but with higher computational complexity,more than 6 million complex operations,and 50 min of runtime calculations compared with the other STM and power optimization methods.

Dear Editor, Self-incompatibility （SI） is a genetic mechanism through which flowering plants prevent self-pollination to ensure out- crossing and genetic diversity. In Brassica sp., this mechanism is controlled by the self-incompatibility （S） locus, in which, the stigmatic ＇S-locus receptor kinase （SRK）＇ recognizes the ＇S-locus cysteine rich protein （SCR）＇ from the self-pollen to elicit an active rejection response. This results in blocking of compatibil- ity factors from being delivered to the site of pollen attachment leading to self-pollen rejection （Chapman and Goring, 2010）. In contrast, following recognition of compatible signals from the cross-pollen or compatible pollen （CP）, the stigma releases its resources such as water and nutrients to the dry pollen so that the pollen tube can germinate and penetrate the stigmatic cuticle leading to successful fertilization. Thus, an incompatible or self-pollen is fully capable of eliciting a compatible response, but is actively rejected before compatible responses can occur.

Relevance of early intervention in Fahr's disease: understanding through a case study

SUMMARY Intracranial calcification may result from disturbances in calcium metabolism. It often remains asymptomatic, but may present with symptoms like seizure and neurological deficits. Correction of the underlying metabolic disturbance before damage of neuronal tissues due to intracranial calcification may be useful in preventing irreversible neurological deficits. This window period may be the crucial period that needs a thorough clinical evaluation and urgent intervention. We highlight the case of an adult woman with Fahr's disease presented with generalised tonic-clonic seizure. The management priorities were also discussed along with review of literature.

研究目的:轮式机器人广泛应用于自主移动机器人研究。已有文献大多数将机器人抽象成具备非完整约束的机械模型,这一假设条件仅在机器人低速运动时成立。本文考虑四轮机器人,同时考虑其纵向和侧向滑动控制,与实际情况更贴近。创新要点:针对轮式移动机器人模型,同时考虑纵向和侧向滑动分量。研究方法:设计纵向滑行控制策略(图1)。改变自然频率(图4)、阻尼和质量(图5)、轮子半径(图6)分别测试控制器响应,最终获取最优控制参数(表2)。重要结论:仿真结果验证所提控制策略的有效性。通过测试选择合适参数使控制器实现快速平滑响应。所设计的控制器对轮子滑动扰动不作限制性假设,即可实现误差指数收敛。
