OBJECTIVE:Angelica archangelica *** widely used in food and liquor preparations and also in Kashmiri folk medicine to reduce *** evaluated the anxiolytic effect of successive extracts of *** linn.(SAE) on rats tested in the elevated T-maze test(an animal model of generalized anxiety) at doses that exhibit antidepressant-like activity in ***:***(1 kg) was subjected to successive extraction in a soxhlet apparatus with solvents [petroleum ether(40-60℃),chloroform,ethyl acetate,methanol and decoction with water] in order of increasing polarity(yield:6.9%,7.3%,5.1%,11.88% and 8.2% w/w,respectively).SAE were evaluated for anxiolytic effects using the elevated T-maze and forced swimming tests in ***:Oral dosing of diazepam(1 mg/kg) and extracts(50,100 and 200 mg/kg) clearly showed an anxiolytic-like profile in the elevated T-maze test:it increased one-way escape and decreased inhibitory avoidance on the first,third and seventh *** the forced swimming test,imipramine and SAE showed antidepressant-and anxiolytic-like effects as reflected by increased climbing time,swimming time and decreased immobility time on the first,third and seventh *** and methanol extracts showed the most,petroleum ether(40-60℃) and chloroform intermediate,and ethyl acetate the least anxiolytic activity(*P<0.05,**P<0.01,***P< 0.001) in both ***:These results suggest the anti-anxiety activity of various extracts of *** and strongly justify its use in traditional Indian medicine for the treatment of anxiety.

One of the challenging tasks in cognitive radio(CR) networks is to agree on a common control channel to exchange control information. This paper presents a novel medium access control(MAC) protocol for CR network which efficiently and intelligently establishes a common control channel between CR nodes. The proposed protocol is the first CR MAC protocol which is hybrid in nature and lies between global common control channel(GCCC) and non-GCCC family of MAC protocols. The dynamic nature of the protocol makes the CR nodes converge on a newly found control channel quicker whenever the interference from a licensed user is sensed. The analytical results show that the dynamic, hybrid and adaptive nature of proposed protocol yields higher throughputs when compared with other CR MAC protocols.

A traffic model based on the road surface conditions during adverse weather is presented. The surface of a road is affected by snow, compacted snow, and ice, which affects the traffic behavior. In this paper, a new macroscopic traffic flow model based on the transition velocity distribution is proposed which characterizes traffic alignment under adverse weather conditions. Two examples are considered to illustrate the effect of the transition velocity behavior on traffic velocity and density. Simulation results are presented which show that this model provides a more accurate characterization of traffic flow behavior than the well known Payne-Whitham model. The proposed model can be used to reduce accidents and improve road safety during adverse weather conditions.

Cast shape during investment casting process dictates properties and service life of the casting. These properties are the function of cast part parameters (both static and dynamic), part geometry and hence mold geometry, nature and type of metal being cast, properties (extrinsic and intrinsic) and processing parameters (rate of heating, rate of cooling, rate of pouring). Improper and inadequate manipulation and modification of mold properties degrade the properties and life of casting altogether. A mathematical model is developed using standard transport equations incorporating all heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) to determine the effect of external mold heating on the properties of the final casting and a simulation is performed in C++ to validate it against experimental results. Pure iron is casted in investment molds of silica sand with zircon coating. Airflow near the mold surfaces was partially restricted due to geometry of the molds and arrangement of the pieces around a tree. The variations in heat transfer coefficient contribute towards total heat transfer out of mold surface. External heating is found to be very effective for improved casting properties. The mold heat transfer profile is found to be in good agreement with experimental values validating the effectiveness of mold heating.

The efficacies of DNA vaccines encoding either Eimeria acervulina lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) antigen or a combination of LDH antigen and chicken IL-2 or IFN-γwere evaluated against chicken *** vaccine plasmids pVAX-LDH,pVAX-LDH-IFN-γand pVAX-LDH-IL-2 were constructed using the eukaryotic expression vector *** of proteins encoded by plasmids DNA in vivo were detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and western blot *** body weight gain,oocyst output,survival rate and lesion scores were measured to evaluate the protective effects of vaccination on challenge *** results showed that DNA vaccines could obviously alleviate body weight loss,duodenal lesions,oocyst output and enhance oocyst decrease ratio. Anti-coccidial indexes(ACIs) of pVAX-LDH-IFN-γand pVAX-LDH-IL-2 groups were higher than that of other *** cytometric analysis of T lymphocytes in spleen and cecal tonsil demonstrated that DNA vaccines had significantly increased percentages of CD3+T cells compared with pVAX1 alone or TE buffer. The results provided the first proof that DNA vaccine carrying *** LDH antigen gene induced protective immunity against homologous infection and its effect could be enhanced by co-expression of chickenIL-2 or IFN-γ.

This paper covers the detailed version of the potential raw material deposits at Darukhula and the adjacent areas of Nizampur, the manufacturing of high-strength Portland cement samples from the same material and comparison of the physical and chemical parameters for resulting cement with British and Pakistan standard specifications, which include compressive strength, setting time, consistency, lechatelier expansion, Blaine and insoluble residue. It was found that the raw material available in the study area meets the standard specifications and the area is feasible for the cement plant installation. The area can provide raw material which is quite sufficient for the running of a cement plant.
