Mammogram Enhancement Using Lifting Dyadic Wavelet Transform and Normalized Tsallis Entropy

In this paper, we present a new technique for mammogram enhancement using fast dyadic wavelet transform （FDyWT） based on lifted spline dyadic wavelets and normalized Tsallis entropy. First, a mammogram image is decom- posed into a multiscale hierarchy of low-subband and high-subband images using FDyWT. Then noise is suppressed using normalized Tsallis entropy of the local variance of the modulus of oriented high-subband images. After that, the wavelet coefficients of high-subbands are modified using a non-linear operator and finally the low-subband image at the first scale is modified with power law transformation to suppress background. Though FDyWT is shift-invariant and has better poten- tial for detecting singularities like edges, its performance depends on the choice of dyadic wavclcts. On the other hand, the nulnber of vanishing moments is an important characteristic of dyadic wavelets for singularity analysis because it provides an upper bound measurement for singularity characterization. Using lifting dyadic schemes, we construct lifted spline dyadic wavelets of different degrees with increased number of vanishing moments. We also examine the effect of these wavelets on mammogram enhancement. The method is tested on mammogram images, taken from MIAS （Mammographic Image Analysis Society） database, having various background tissue types and containing different abnormalities. The comparison with tile state-of-the-art contrast enhancement methods reveals that the proposed method performs better and the difference is statistically significant.

Chemically modified pullulan was evaluated for its sorption efficiency and selectivity to remove cadmium（Cd） from spiked high-hardness groundwater（GW）. Pullulan esterified with succinic anhydride using dimethylaminopyridine showed a fairly high degree of substitution value as confirmed by1 H NMR spectroscopy. Pullulan succinate（Pull-Suc） was converted into the sodium salt（Pull-Suc-Na）. The effect of contact time（5–200 min） and p H（2–8） on Cd-uptake by the sorbent（Pull-Suc-Na） was investigated. The sorbent showed more than 90% Cd-removal in first 15 min from distilled water（DW） and GW solution,respectively. Comparison of Pull-Suc-Na with other polysaccharidal sorbents suggested its high efficiency（DW 476.2 mg/g and GW 454.5 mg/g） and selectivity for the removal of Cd by an ion exchange mechanism, which is further supported by the negative Gibbs free energy values calculated from Langmuir isotherms. A Langmuir isotherm kinetic model provided the best fit for the sorption of Cd using Pull-Suc-Na. The sorbent showed a negligible decrease in Cd-uptake over three regeneration cycles. The thermal stability testing of the sorbents indicated that Pull-Suc-Na（sorbent） is more stable than Pull-Suc.

This study focuses on the deformation characteristics of Kadui-2 Landslide by the influence of reservoir filling-drawdown and precipitation.A three-year monitoring project was implemented in order to observe the short/long-term *** slide mass experienced consistent deformation with a maximum cumulative displacement of 331.34 *** on the recorded data of reservoir water level and precipitation during this period,a two-dimensional(2-D)finite element model using Geostudio software was set up for deformation simulation under different conditions to understand the real influence of these triggering factors on *** numerical simulation results are in consistent with monitoring field *** numerical simulation and field monitoring results exhibit that the maximum deformation occurred at the foreside of slumping *** slip surface shows significant creep characteristics decreasing as long-term shear strength reducing *** water level fluctuation is the primary triggering factor to reactivate the landslide mass and has a negative correlation with deformation *** rate increases with the reservoir drawdown and decreases with impoundment *** with reservoir filling-drawdown operation,rainfall has no significant effect on the slide motion of landslide due to limited penetration from the ground surface.

Climate and land use changes have a significant impact on the runoff generation process in urban environments, and these effects could get worse in the future. The combined contributions of these changes have increased the risk of ***, there is a need for integrated modeling to better understand the runoff variability, especially in small urban catchments. To quantify and separate the effects of land-use changes and climate change on the hydrological response of urban catchments with a distributed hydrological model(Storm Water Management Model, SWMM), this study introduces a new integrated approach based on the Machine Learning based land use change modeler and climate change scenarios under *** on supervised classification and land use change model analysis, accumulated impervious area increase from 22%(in2023) to 33%(in 2060) was observed in the study area. Furthermore, integrating this projected increase in imperviousness with future climate change into SWMM by considering three different scenarios i.e., S1(Climate Change), S2(Combined Land Use and Climate Change), and S3(Land use Change) resulted that climate change could cause an increase in runoff from 13.2% to18.3% in peak runoff and the contribution of land use could range from 9.1% to 18.6%. Similarly, in response to the coupled effects of climate and land-use change, the runoff would likely change from 24.53% to 39.66%. Conclusively, the study showed that despite climate change, intensive urban development by the substitution of impervious surfaces could also have a severe impact on the microclimate and hydrology of small catchments. Lastly, this study could provide a way forward for the future planning and management of water resources in small catchments which could be extended to larger catchments.
