Vanillin cross-linked hydrogel membranes interfacial reinforced by carbon nitride nanosheets for enhanced antibacterial activity and mechanical properties

Biopolymer based hydrogels are highly adaptable, compatible and have shown great potential in biological tissues in biomedical applications. However, the development of bio-based hydrogels with high strength and effective antibacterial activity remains challenging. Herein, a series of vanillin-cross-linked chitosan nanocomposite hydrogel interfacially reinforced by g-C_(3)N_(4)nanosheet carrying starch-caped Ag NPs were prepared for wound healing applications. The study aimed to enhance the strength, sustainability and control release ability of the fabricated membranes. Starch-caped silver nanoparticles were incorporated to enhance the anti-bacterial activities The fabricated membranes were assessed using various characterization techniques such as FT-IR, XRD, SEM, mechanical testing, Gel fraction and porosity alongside traditional biomedical tests i.e., swelling percentage, moisture retention ability, water vapor transmission rate, oxygen permeability, anti-bacterial activity and drug-release of the fabricated membranes. The mechanical strength reached as high as 25.9 ± 0.24 MPa for the best optimized sample. The moisture retention lied between 87%–89%, gel fraction 80%–85%, and water vapor transmission up to 104 ± 1.9g m^(-2)h^(-1)showing great properties of the fabricated membrane. Swelling percentage surged to 225% for blood while porosity fluctuated between 44% ± 2.1% and 52.5% ± 2.3%. Oxygen permeability reached up to 8.02 mg/L showing the breathable nature of fabricated membranes. The nanocomposite membrane shown excellent antibacterial activity for both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria with a maximum zone of inhibition 30 ± 0.25 mm and 36.23 ± 0.23 mm respectively. A fossil-bearing locality near Padhri village,Dhok Pathan,55 km away from the tehsil Dina,Jhelum District,in the Potwar Plateau,Middle Siwaliks,Punjab,northern Pakistan,is significantly rich in mammalian *** site has provided an abundant mammalian fossil fauna of Late Miocene age from the Dhok Pathan Formation(Fm.).The recovered material belongs to four families:Equidae(horses),Rhinocerotidae(rhinos),Bovidae(cows),and Suidae(pigs).We discovered a new skull of hipparionine Hipparion theobaldi from this locality along with 22 specimens from the associated assemblage of fossil *** recovered material includes seven other species:the aceratheriine Chilotherium intermedium,boselaphines Tragoportax punjabicus,Selenoportax vexillarius,Pachyportax latidens,the antelope Gazella lydekkeri and suinine Propotamochoerus *** specimens are isolated teeth,fragments of maxilla,mandibles and horn *** Dhok Pathan *** generally composed of claystone,siltstone and sandstone beds and,based on the mammalian fauna,the Padhri fossil locality is dated as Late ***99 s formation was deposited in a subtropical paleoenvironment and the predominance of fossil bovids indicates extremely moist conditions with small but frequent standing water bodies.

Experimental Investigation on the Effect of Seal Presence on the Behavior of Double-Deck Floating Roofs in Cylindrical Steel Storage Tanks

Liquid storage,particularly oil and petrochemical products which are considered hazardous liquid,are an important part of the oil ***-walled vertical cylindrical steel storage tanks are widely used in recent *** to high sensitivity of these structures in an earthquake and other external excitations may lead to catastrophic *** instance,huge economic losses,environmental damages,and casualities,many studies have been done about these *** studies showed that liquid storage tanks,equipped with a floating roof,are potentially vulnerable while subjected to seismic loads and earthquake has been considered as one of the most destructive natural *** reason is that such tanks are made of two separated parts(shell and roof)which each may have its own responses;sometimes causing resonance phenomenon and so that,roof movements,rooffluid interaction,roof-shell interaction,and also the way they are attached should still be *** tests of floating roof’s vertical fluctuation was performed in a full-scale reservoir tank and assessing of the results demonstrated that presence of a seal between floating roof and shell plate can significantly increase damping ratio in liquid sloshing and also suppress the roof`s vertical *** other words,seal can control a floating roof and make it stop moving vertically over few cycles.

Biochar(BC)has gained attention for removal of toxic elements(TEs)from aqueous media;however,pristine biochar often exhibits low adsorption ***,various modification strategies in BC have been developed to improve its removal capability against *** zero-valent iron(nZVI)and iron oxides(FeOx)have been used as sorbents for TE ***,these materials are prone to agglomeration and also expensive,which make their usage limited for large-scale *** nZVI technical demerits could be resolved by the development of BC-based composite sorbents through the loading of nZVI or FeOx onto BC *** zero-valent iron modified BC(nZVIBC),FeOx-modified BC(FeOxBC)have attracted attention for their capability in removing pollutants from the aqueous ***,a potential use of nZVIBC and FeOxBC for TE removal from aqueous environments has not been well-realized or *** such,this article reviews:(i)the preparation and characterization of nZVIBC and FeOxBC;(ii)the capacity of nZVIBC and FeOxBC for TE retention in line with their physicochemical properties,and(iii)TE removal mechanisms by nZVIBC and *** nZVI and FeOx in BC increases its sporptive capability of TEs due to surface modifications in morphology,functional groups,and elemental *** combined effects of BC and nZVI,FeOx or Fe salts on the sorption of TEs are complex because they are very specific to *** review identified significant opportunities for research and technol-ogy advancement of nZVIBC and FeOxBC as novel and effective sorbents for the remediation of TEs contaminated water.

Real-time in situ observation of P53-mediated cascade activation of apoptotic pathways with nucleic acid multicolor fluorescent probes based on symmetrical gold nanostars

T-2 toxin,one of the most dangerous natural pollutants,induces apoptosis through multiple ***,P53 mediated apoptosis pathway,an important collection of molecules,plays a key role in cell vital ***-time monitoring of upstream and downstream activation relationships of P53 mRNA,Bax mRNA,and cytochrome c(Cyt c)in signaling pathways is of great significance for understanding the apoptotic machinery in human *** this work,a novel nucleic acid multicolor fluorescent probe,based on silica-coated symmetric gold nanostars(S-AuNSs@SiO_(2)),was developed for highly sensitive in situ real-time imaging of P53 mRNA,Bax mRNA,and Cyt c during T-2 toxin-induced *** nucleic acid chains modified with carboxyl groups were modified on the surface of S-AuNSs@SiO_(2)by amide *** complementary chains of targeted mRNA and the aptamer of targeted Cyt c were modified with different fluorophores,respectively,and successfully hybridized on S-AuNSs@SiO_(2)*** targets were present,the fluorescent chains bound to the targets and detached from the material,resulting in the quenched fluorescence being *** probes based on S-AuNSs showed excellent performance is partly ascribed to the presence of 20 symmetric“hot spots”.Notably,the amide-bonded probe exhibited excellent anti-interference capability against biological agents(nucleases and biothiols).During the real-time fluorescence imaging of T-2 toxin-induced apoptosis,the corresponding fluorescence signals of P53 mRNA,Bax mRNA,and Cyt c were observed ***,S-AuNSs@SiO_(2)probe not only provides a novel tool for real-time monitoring of apoptosis pathways cascade but also has considerable potential in disease diagnosis and pharmaceutical medical.

Autoimmune Hepatitis Induced after Treatment of Syphilitic Hepatitis

We present a unique case of biopsy-proven syphilitic hepa-titis which presented as severe acute liver injury with sig-nificant elevation in aminotransferases and bilirubin,and improved with antibiotic ***,the patient re-turned weeks after initial presentation with new-onset acute liver injury and had developed hypergammaglobulinemia,positive autoantibody titers,and repeat liver biopsy dem-onstrating interface hepatitis,supporting a diagnosis of autoimmune *** had an otherwise unrevealing etiologic workup,and responded to glucocorticoid *** believe that syphilitic hepatitis and its treatment sub-sequently triggered an immunogenic response,leading to autoimmune *** hepatitis is a chronic liver disease thought to manifest as a result of predisposing genetic factors in combination with environmental insults,especially hepatotropic *** is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Treponema pallidum that has been associated with autoimmunity and the develop-ment of *** propose that in the setting of syphilitic hepatitis,a molecular mimicry event resulting from structural similarities between *** and liver antigens,as well as impaired regulatory T-cell function,led to the breakdown of immune tolerance and the onset of au-toimmune *** support this hypothesis,further mo-lecular analyses and case series are necessary to determine if syphilitic hepatitis and its treatment are risk factors for the onset of autoimmune *** hepatitis should be considered early as the cause of acute liver injury in susceptible patients with risk factors for the disease,as prompt recognition and appropriate treatment may prevent progression of liver injury and result in improved outcomes.
