Cardiometabolic Risk in Overweight and Obese Children in Bangladesh

Introduction: Childhood obesity is increasing dramatically and represents an important public health issue due to associated metabolic and cardiovascular comorbidities. Very limited data are available regarding cardiometabolic risk factors among this group in Bangladesh. Objective: To observe the cardiometabolic risk factors in overweight and obese children. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in 88 overweight and obese children recruited consecutively by using CDC percentile chart for body mass index (BMI) in children between January 2017 and March 2018 in the Department of Endocrinology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. After completing a questionnaire and relevant clinical examination, blood was collected for fasting plasma glucose (FPG), insulin, HbA1c, lipid profile and C-reactive protein (CRP). Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) was used to determine insulin resistance. Results: Central obesity (100%), dyslipidaemia (88.6%), raised CRP (81.8%) and metabolic syndrome (69.3%) were the most common cardiometabolic risk factors. Children with grade 3 obesity had significantly higher systolic blood pressure (115.57 ± 11.60 vs 105.71 ± 8.84 mmHg, p = 0.043) and insulin resistance (7.15 ± 4.97 vs 3.53 ± 2.04, p = 0.017) than grade 1 obesity. Blood pressure, insulin resistance and CRP increased while high density lipoprotein (HDL) decreased with increasing severity of obesity. BMI z score was a significant predictor of systolic blood pressure;waist circumference was an independent predictor of diastolic blood pressure and HDL;waist height ratio best predicted insulin resistance, CRP and total cholesterol in overweight/obese children. Conclusions: We have observed a high frequency of cardiometabolic risk factors in overweight and obese children and they increased worsened with increasing grade of obesity.

A Hybrid Quantum Inspired Particle Swarm Optimization and Least Square Framework for Real-time Harmonic Estimation

The power quality is becoming an extensively addressing aspect of the power system because of the sensitive operation of the smart grid, awareness of power quality, and the equipment of modern power systems. In this paper, we have conceived a new hybrid Quantum inspired particle swarm optimization and least square(QPSO-LS) framework for real-time estimation of harmonics presented in time-varying noisy power signals. The technique has strong, robust, and reliable search capability with powerful convergence properties. The proposed approach is applied to various test systems at different signal to noise ratio(SNR) levels in the presence of uniform and Gaussian noise. The results are presented in terms of precision, computation time, and convergence characteristics. The computation time decreases by 3-5 times as compared to the existing algorithms. The technique is further authenticated by estimating harmonics of real-time current or voltage waveforms, obtained from light emitting diode(LED) lamp and axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator(AFPMSG). The results demonstrate the superiority of QPSO-LS over other methods such as LS-based genetic algorithm(GA), particle swarm optimization(PSO), bacterial foraging optimization(BFO), artificial bee colony(ABC), and biogeography based optimization with recursive LS(BBO-RLS) algorithms, in terms of providing satisfactory solutions with a significant amount of robustness and computation efficiency.

Wireless nodes are one of the main components in different applications that are offered in a smart *** wireless nodes are responsible to execute multiple tasks with different priority *** the wireless nodes have limited processing capacity,they offload their tasks to cloud servers if the number of tasks exceeds their task processing *** these tasks from remotely placed cloud servers causes a significant delay which is not required in sensitive task *** execution delay is reduced by placing fog computing nodes near these application nodes.A fog node has limited processing capacity and is sometimes unable to execute all the requested *** this work,an optimal task offloading scheme that comprises two algorithms is proposed for the fog nodes to optimally execute the time-sensitive offloaded *** first algorithm describes the task processing criteria for local computation of tasks at the fog nodes and remote computation at the cloud *** second algorithm allows fog nodes to optimally scrutinize the most sensitive tasks within their task *** results show that the proposed task execution scheme significantly reduces the execution time and most of the time-sensitive tasks are executed.

Social media,like Twitter,is a data repository,and people exchange views on global issues like the COVID-19 *** media has been shown to influence the low acceptance of *** work aims to identify public sentiments concerning the COVID-19 vaccines and better understand the individual’s sensitivities and feelings that lead to *** work proposes a method to analyze the opinion of an individual’s tweet about the COVID-19 *** paper introduces a sigmoidal particle swarm optimization(SPSO)***,the performance of SPSO is measured on a set of 12 benchmark problems,and later it is deployed for selecting optimal text features and categorizing *** proposed method uses TextBlob and VADER for sentiment analysis,CountVectorizer,and term frequency-inverse document frequency(TF-IDF)vectorizer for feature extraction,followed by SPSO-based feature *** Covid-19 vaccination tweets dataset was created and used for training,validating,and *** proposed approach outperformed considered algorithms in terms of ***,we augmented the newly created dataset to make it balanced to increase performance.A classical support vector machine(SVM)gives better accuracy for the augmented dataset without a feature selection *** shows that augmentation improves the overall accuracy of tweet *** the augmentation performance of PSO and SPSO is improved by almost 7%and 5%,respectively,it is observed that simple SVMwith 10-fold cross-validation significantly improved compared to the primary dataset.

In situations when the precise position of a machine is unknown,localization becomes *** research focuses on improving the position prediction accuracy over long-range(LoRa)network using an optimized machine learning-based *** order to increase the prediction accuracy of the reference point position on the data collected using the fingerprinting method over LoRa technology,this study proposed an optimized machine learning(ML)based *** signal strength indicator(RSSI)data from the sensors at different positions was first gathered via an experiment through the LoRa network in a multistory round layout *** noise factor is also taken into account,and the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)value is recorded for every RSSI *** study concludes the examination of reference point accuracy with the modified KNN method(MKNN).MKNN was created to more precisely anticipate the position of the reference *** findings showed that MKNN outperformed other algorithms in terms of accuracy and complexity.

One of the challenging problems with evolutionary computing algorithms is to maintain the balance between exploration and exploitation capability in order to search global optima.A novel convergence track based adaptive differential evolution(CTbADE)algorithm is presented in this research *** crossover rate and mutation probability parameters in a differential evolution algorithm have a significant role in searching global optima.A more diverse population improves the global searching capability and helps to escape from the local optima *** the convergence path over time helps enhance the searching speed of a differential evolution algorithm for varying *** adaptive powerful parameter-controlled sequences utilized learning period-based memory and following convergence track over time are introduced in this *** proposed algorithm will be helpful in maintaining the equilibrium between an algorithm’s exploration and exploitation capability.A comprehensive test suite of standard benchmark problems with different natures,i.e.,unimodal/multimodal and separable/non-separable,was used to test the convergence power of the proposed CTbADE *** results show the significant performance of the CTbADE algorithm in terms of average fitness,solution quality,and convergence speed when compared with standard differential evolution algorithms and a few other commonly used state-of-the-art algorithms,such as jDE,CoDE,and EPSDE *** algorithm will prove to be a significant addition to the literature in order to solve real time problems and to optimize computationalmodels with a high number of parameters to adjust during the problem-solving process.

A survey on trust based detection and isolation of malicious nodes in ad-hoc and sensor networks

Mobile ad-hoc networks （MANETs） and wireless sensor networks （WSNs） have gained remarkable apprecia- tion and technological development over the last few years. Despite ease of deployment, tremendous applications and significant advantages, security has always been a challeng- ing issue due to the nature of environments in which nodes operate. Nodes＇ physical capture, malicious or selfish behav- ior cannot be detected by traditional security schemes. Trust and reputation based approaches have gained global recog- nition in providing additional means of security for decision making in sensor and ad-hoc networks. This paper provides an extensive literature review of trust and reputation based models both in sensor and ad-hoc networks. Based on the mechanism of trust establishment, we categorize the state- of-the-art into two groups namely node-centric trust mod- els and system-centric trust models. Based on trust evidence, initialization, computation, propagation and weight assign- ments, we evaluate the efficacy of the existing schemes. Fi- nally, we conclude our discussion with identification of some unresolved issues in pursuit of trust and reputation manage- ment.

Variation in the life-history traits of a Schilbid catfish,Clupisoma garua (Hamilton, 1822) in the coastal waters of southern Bangladesh

For the first time, the present study reports the life-history traits, comprising length-frequency distribution （LFD）, sex ratio （SR）, length-weight relationships （LWRs）, condition factors （CFs）, and relative growth （WR）, of Clupisoma garua in the coastal waters of Bangladesh. A total of 150 specimens ranging from 8.60 to 25.20 cm total length （TL） and 4.26 to 128.80 g body weight （BW） were collected using traditional fishing gear from August 2013 to July 2014. The overall sex ratio of males to females in the study did not differ significantly from the expected value of 1：1 （χ2=0.96, P〈0.05） but there were significant sex differences （P〈0.05） in the intercepts and slopes of graphs characterizing traits in C. garua. The calculated b values for the LWRs were 2.955, 2.893 and 2.927 for males, females and combined sexes, respectively, and there was negative allometric growth in all cases （b〈3）. The condition factors （KA, KF, KrR） and relative growth （WR） also did not differ significantly （P〈0.05） between the sexes. This study provides a useful tool for fishery specialists to evaluate the relative condition of fish and to initiate early management strategies and regulations for the sustainable management of the remaining stocks of this species in the entire coastal region of southern Bangladesh.

Transgenerational phenotypic plasticity of diapause induction and related fitness cost in a commercial strain of the parasitoid Aphidius ervi Haliday

Diapause is an adaptation that insects have evolved to synchronize their life cycle with that of seasonal climatic changes and resources ***,cues for its induction are not always clear and,in some cases,a maternal effect may be *** the population level,just a part of the individuals may exhibit diapause with important consequences in terms of winter ***,clear indicators of diapause state are difficult to *** induction was thus investigated in the aphid parasitoid species Aphidius ervi Haliday(Hymenoptera:Braconidae)developing in the aphid Sitobion avenae(Hemiptera:Aphididae)at four crossed photothermal regimes(16℃and 8℃,16:8 h L:D and 8:16 h L:D),and during 2 successive *** analyzed the reliability of changes in mummy color to assess for the diapausing state compared to dissections,and we measured parasitoid morphological and physiological *** observed that the proportion of dark brown mummies increased after one generation under low photothermal regime compared to other *** diapause was recorded at 16℃,16:8 h L:D,while we observed 16.2%and 67.5%diapause incidence at 8℃,8:16 h L:D,at 1st and 2nd generation,*** induction is thus increased by short day-length conditions and low temperatures as well as by maternal *** parasitoid life-history traits(weight,size,fat content,water content,egg-load,and longevity)were affected by the photothermal regime and/or the *** results raise new questions on the environmental thresholds needed to induce diapause and on survival and adaptation potential of commercially available parasitoid strains in different environments.
