Practice of cardiopulmonary resuscitation among health care providers in a tertiary health centre in a semi-urban setting

Objectives: To assess the basic knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) among health workers in a tertiary health facility in a semi-rural county. Methods: A questionnaire based, cross sectional study involving health care professionals was performed in Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State, Nigeria from April to July 2017. A purposive sampling method was adopted for subject selection. A pretested self-administered questionnaire was distributed;this included knowledge on basic life support;participation in basic life supportand outcomes. It was adopted from the American Heart Association guidelines for CPR and emergency cardiac care. Results: One hundred and two respondents were recruited (40 doctors and 62 nurses). There were 50 males (49%) and 52 females (51%). Their age ranged from 23 to 54 years with mean of (34.9± 7.4) years. Only 20% of the respondents were aware of circulation, airway and circulation in adult resuscitation;however, 61.0% of all respondents were aware of airway, breathing and circulation of resuscitation in children. Furthermore, only 10% of the respondents were aware of the correct steps of single rescuer resuscitation. Their knowledge was poor about chest compression and ventilation for both adult and children resuscitation. The overall knowledge score ranged from 0.0% to 100% with mean knowledge score of (21.2±18.6)%. The date of last training about CPR had no relationship with the knowledge scores (χ ^2=2.951, P=0.300). The cadre of the respondents (doctors and nurses) had no relationship with their knowledge score (χ^2=0.100, P=0.633 for doctors and nurses;χ^2=7.074, P=0.225 for doctors cadre;χ^2=3.868, P=0.677 for nurses cadre) respectively. Conclusions: The knowledge about CPR among health workers is poor;furthermore, the last date of training about CPR and the cadre of staffs have no relationship with knowledge of CPR.

Objective:To investigate the levels of zinc-α-2-glycoprotein(ZAG) among Omani AIDS patients receiving combined antiretroviral therapy(cART).Methods:A total of 80 Omani AIDS patients(45 males and 33 females),average age of 36 *** were receiving cART at the Saltan Qaboos University Hospital(SQUH).Muscat,Oman,were tested for the levels of *** addition,SO healthy blood donors(46 males and 34 females),average age of 26 years,attending the SOUH Blood Bank,were tested in parallel as a control *** of the ZAG levels was performed using a competitive enzyme—linked immunosorbent assay and in accordance with the manufacturer's ***:The ZAG levels were found to he significantly higher among AIDS patients compared to the healthy individuals(P=0.033).A total of 56(70%) of the AIDS patients were found to have higher levels of ZAG and 16(20%) AIDS patients were found to have high ZAG levels,which are significantly(P>0.031) associated with weight ***:ZAG levels are high among Omani AIDS patients on cART and this necessitales the measurement of ZAG on routine basis,as it is associated with weight loss.

Improved the Prediction of Multiple Linear Regression Model Performance Using the Hybrid Approach: A Case Study of Chlorophyll-a at the Offshore Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu

Efficiency and precision in prediction of Chlorophyll-a using this model is still a pandemic among researchers, due to the natural conditions in ocean water systems itself, which involved chemical, biological and physical processes and interaction among them may affect the model performance drastically. Thus, to overcome this problem as well as to improve the strength of MLR, we proposed a hybrid approach, i.e., an Artificial Neural Network to the MLR coins as Artificial Neural Network-Multiple Linear Regression (ANN-MLR). To investigate the performance of the proposed model, we compared Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and proposed hybrid Artificial Neural Network and Multiple Linear Regression (ANN-MLR) in the prediction of chlorophyll-a (chl-a) concentration by statistical measurement which are MSE and MAE. Achieving our objectives of study, we used 4 parameters, i.e. temperature (°C), pH, salinity (ppt), DO (ppm) at the Offshore Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia. The results showed that our proposed model can improve the performance of the model as compared to ANN and MLR due to small errors generated, error reduced, and increased the correlation coefficient for all parameters in both MSE and MAE, respectively. Thus, this result indicated that our proposed model is efficient, precise and almost perfect correlation as compared to ANN and MLR.

采取随机抽样的方法对133例计划外过早再入院的老年患者进行了研究,并与未再入院的患者进行了比较。通过与病人、他们的护理人、病房护士、病人的主管医生进行交谈,搞清每个患者计划外过早再入院的原因。发现七个可能存在的主要原因:原病复发、患了新的疾病、护理问题、由最初病症引起的并发症、需要晚期护理、药物及服务问题。计划外再入院率为6%;计划内为3%。作者认为78例(59%)计划外再入院患者是可以避免的。研究组与对照组之间在以下方面存在明显差异:低收入、住院史、护理条件、被开业医生收治入院情况。这些因素有助于发现有可能再次急诊入院患者。二十年来出现了不少有关老年病人出院问题的研究报道。多数作者叙述了他们重新安置这些出院病人的困难。评论的一个问题是计划外再入院。出院后第一年内再入院率高达20%。东西区(1979年)65岁以上病人再入院率为15%。三分之一的再入院患者是于出院后28天内再入院的。研究对象大多限于从老年医学科出院的病人或患有某种特殊残疾的老年病人。这项研究旨在了解患者的出院过程、搞清引起计划外过早再入院的原因。

This study reports the dosimetric response of a(ZnO)_(0.2)(TeO_(2))_(0.8)thin film sensor irradiated with high-energy X-ray radiation at various *** spray pyrolysis method was used for the film deposition on soda-lime glass substrate using zinc acetate dehydrate and tellurium dioxide powder as the starting *** structural and morphological properties of the film were *** I-V characteristics measurements were performed during irradiation with a 6 MV X-ray beam from a *** results revealed that the XRD pattern of the AS-deposited thin film is non-crystalline(amorphous)in *** FESEM image shows the non-uniform shape of nanoparticles agglomerated separately,and the EDX spectrum shows the presence of Te,Zn,and O in the *** I-V characteristics measurements indicate that the current density increases linearly with X-ray doses(0-250 cGy)for all applied voltages(1-6 V).The sensitivity of the thin film sensor has been found to be in the range of 0.37-0.94 mA/cm^(2)/*** current-voltage measurement test for fading normalised in percentage to day 0 was found in the order of day 0>day 15>day 30>day 1>day *** results are expected to be beneficial for fabricating cheap and practical X-ray sensors.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2 inhibitors) have transformed diabetes management by targeting renal glucose reabsorption. Designed initially as antidiabetic agents, their ability to lower blood glucose levels independently of insulin is well-documented. Beyond glycemic control, emerging research has unveiled their profound cardiorenal benefits. By inhibiting SGLT-2 protein, these drugs enhance glucose excretion in urine, reducing blood glucose levels. This mechanism has translated into significant cardiovascular and renal protection, establishing SGLT-2 inhibitors as pivotal in managing not only diabetes but also cardiovascular and renal diseases. Recent studies have illuminated the broader therapeutic potential of SGLT-2 inhibitors beyond diabetes. Evidence indicates their efficacy in managing heart failure, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and cardiovascular complications in individuals with or without diabetes. This expanded therapeutic landscape has catalyzed a paradigm shift in SGLT-2 inhibitor use, positioning them as key agents in the cardiorenal metabolic continuum. Moreover, their role in the secondary prevention of cardiovascular events and slowing CKD progression in T2DM patients has garnered considerable attention. This consensus-based review aims to offer practical guidance in an algorithmic approach to primary care healthcare professionals to optimize SGLT-2 inhibitors utilization and maximize their benefits. The review seeks to empower clinicians to effectively manage patients who may benefit from SGLT-2 inhibitor therapy by addressing common initiation barriers and optimizing treatment strategies. Additionally, it aims to raise awareness among primary care physicians regarding the multifaceted benefits of these medications and overcome clinical inertia in their adoption into routine clinical practice.

Antibacterial resistance is a source of great concern in the effective prevention and treatment of infections caused by bacteria,making the development of requisite therapeutics a major challenge.N-(Nitrophenyl)cycloamino acids are important compounds in the synthesis of poly-condensed nitrogen-containing heterocycles with marked activities in many biological systems.A series of substituted N-(o-nitrophenyl)cycloamino-2-carboxylic acids 3a–3g were synthesized via the condensation reaction of substituted o-halogenonitrobenzenes with L-proline 2a and D,L-pipecolinic acid 2b,under refluxing alcoholic basic conditions in excellent *** synthesized compounds were characterised by FT-IR,(1H&13C)NMR,UV-Vis,mass spectroscopy and elemental *** antibacterial activities were evaluated against five Gram-positive and five Gram-negative bacterial strains using the broth micro-dilution *** antibacterial activities of the synthesized compounds were compared with streptomycin and nalidixic acid as standard antibiotic *** minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)values of compounds 3a–3g revealed good antibacterial activities against the tested *** 3a–3g were more potent than nalidixic acid against Enterococcus faecalis,Mycobacterium smegmatis,Escherichia coli and Proteus vulgaris and also more potent than streptomycin against Enterobacter cloacae and Staphylococcus *** 3a,3c and 3g displayed the highest antibacterial potency with an MIC value of 15.6μg/mL against ***,*** and ***,*** results indicated that these aryl cycloamino acids with antibacterial activities had potential applications as substitutes for antimicrobial peptide antibiotics,which are not susceptible to bacterial resistance,to solve the problem of drug resistance.

Effect of 45S5 Bio-Glass Particles on Physical Properties and Corrosion Resistance of the Mg-5Zn Matrix Composite

The effect of bio-glass (45S5) addition on the physical properties of Mg-5Zn matrix composite has been investigated. Powder metallurgy method was used to fabricate the composite by mixing, compacting and followed by sintering. Mg-5 wt% Zn was reinforced with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 wt% of bio-glass (BG). The physical properties such as density and porosity were determined using a pcynometer. Corrosion resistance was studied by immersion test. The results showed that porosity of the sintered sample decreased for the Mg-5 wt% Zn reinforced with 5 wt% of bio-glass. However, above 5 wt% of bio-glass, the porosity increased. The result also showed that corrosion resistance of Mg-5 wt% Zn increased as the amount of bio-glass increased.
