The present research work was carried out to investigate the proximate composition and antioxidant capacities of newly invented varieties of dry peas. The proximate composition in terms of moisture （7.00-8.50%）, ash （3.85-4.97%）, fiber （3.8-12.3%） and protein （17.3-18.8%） contents varied significantly with respect to various cultivars. Total phenolic contents （TPC）, total flavonoids contents （TFC）, percentage inhibition of peroxidation of linoleic acid system, reducing power and DPPH free radical scavenging capacity of different dry peas extracts were found in range of 0.651-0.684 g/100g of GAE, 0.021-0.041 g/100g of CE, 0.713-0.895, 40.051-84.608%, 18.097-24.591 mg/mL, respectively. The amount of TFC, and percent inhibition of per oxidation in linoleic system of different dry peas extracts varied significantly among various cultivars and solvents. From the results of present investigations it is reasonable to say that 80% methanolic extracts of dry peas have exhibited varying degree of antioxidant activity.

The Bakerwal breed of goat in Kashmir valley is a good meat purpose breed of goat. That attains an appreciable body weight under a low input production system. As these goats are mainly reared by Gujjar and Bakarwal tribes of the J & K state, so they usually are fed with the weeds, herbs, shrubs and grasses of pastures that will otherwise go waste. These goats constitute the main livestock wealth. With the good productive and reproductive potential, it makes these animals an important animal protein source for developing countries like India. The myostatin gene (GDF8) is important in the physiology of stock animals because its product produces a direct effect on muscle development and consequently also on meat production. The myostatin sequence is known in several mammalian species and shows a high degree of amino acid sequence conservation, although several alterations in the intron and exon regions have been identified. The objective of our work is to characterize the myostatin coding regions using gene sequencing and polymerase chain reaction methods of Capra hircus (Bakerwal breed) and to compare them with the Ovis aries and other livestock species of animal, looking for variations in nucleotide and protein sequences. As mutations in the myostatin gene can inactivate its expression and result in a non-functional protein, which leads to increase in muscle growth in many species. In this way, we are able to identify 3 alterations on the presumed myostatin protein sequence as compared to non double-muscled ovine sequences.

An Experience of Short-Term results of Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernioplasty Using 3D Mesh in a Developing Country

Background: The experience of short term results of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair using 3D mesh in a developing country is reviewed. Methods: From January 2012 to February 2014, 53 patients underwent laparoscopic inguinal hernioplasty. A retrospective case series of 53 consecutive patients undergoing TEP/TAPP by a single surgical team was followed prospectively with a focused physical examination and interview. 4 out of 53 patients had recurrent hernia following open repairs and 49 had primary hernias. Data collected included operative time, intraoperative bleeding, intraoperative difficulties, immediate postoperative pain, chronic groin pain, recurrence, sensory disturbance, activity or occupational limitation and personal satisfaction. results: All the patients were male aged 32 to 75 years with a mean age of 53.5 years. Mean operative time was 37.4 minutes;intraoperative dissection, blood loss were less;and immediate postoperative pain was negligible as assessed by VAS. There was no mortality or major morbidity. Mean follow-up was 12 months (2 to 18 months). Follow-up was completed by interview and physical examination. Hernia was not found to recur during the follow up period. Chronic pain occurred in 2 patients (3.7%), which was mild in nature. Ninety-seven percent of patients were satisfied with their repair and would or had recommended TEP/TAPP to others using 3D Mesh. Conclusions: Short-term results of TEP/TAPP hernia repair using 3D mesh demonstrated to be an effective and safe procedure with low prevalence of chronic pain that is generally of a mild, infrequent nature. It was also concurred that there is decrease in operative time. Manipulation of mesh was significantly reduced. Intraoperative bleeding and use of post operative analgesia was reduced considerably. There was no recurrence, however the cost of the mesh increased the overall cost of the procedure acting as a limiting factor in a developing country.
