The influence of thermo-mechanical processing (TMP) on the microstructure and the electrochemical behavior of new metastableβ alloy Ti?20.6Nb?13.6Zr?0.5V (TNZV) was investigated. The TMP included hot working in belowβ transus, solution heat treatments at the same temperature and different cooling rates in addition to aging. Depending upon the TMP conditions, a wide range of microstructures with varying spatial distributions and morphologies of equiaxed/elongatedα andβ phases were attained, allowing for a wide range of electrochemical properties to be achieved. The corrosion behavior of the studied alloy was evaluated in a Ringer’s solution at 37 °C via open circuit potential?time and potentiodynamic polarization measurements.

Components made by joining different materials are required in various engineering *** of suchcomponents is a challenging task due to the vast difference in mechanical,thermal and electrical properties of the materials *** stir welding(FSW)is capable of joining dissimilar materials such as aluminum(Al)and copper(Cu)and thereforeresearchers have used this novel process for dissimilar ***,several works pertaining to dissimilar joining,specifically Al?Cu,are available in the literature but they are scattered in different sources,which makes the task of gatheringinformation about dissimilar FSW of Al?Cu *** work has been written with an aim to provide all pertinentinformation related to dissimilar FSW of Al?Cu at one place to ease the problems of *** comprehensively covers andsummarizes the topics such as the effect of tool design and geometry,FSW process parameters,FSW strategies on mechanicalproperties,microstructure and formation of defects during dissimilar FSW of Al?*** addition,it also presents and discussesseveral variants of dissimilar FSW of Al?***,this work not only puts forth major findings of the previous researchers but alsosuggests future recommendations for dissimilar FSW of Al?Cu.

Surveillance of Chikungunya virus activity in some North-eastern states of India

Objective: To detect the prevalence pattern of Chikungunya virus in three states of Northeast India. Methods: A total of 1 510 samples were collected from different private and government hospitals of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. Serum was tested for the presence of IgM antibodies against Chikungunya virus followed by RT-PCR for amplification of Chikungunya E1 gene region using specific primers. Results: Overall, 11.83%(172/1 454) clinical samples were positive by MAC-ELISA and/or RT-PCR assay. Asymptomatic infection was seen in 17.86%. Males were more affected than females and age group 16-30 years was mostly affected. Fever(100.00%) was the primary symptom followed by headache(72.03%) and arthralgia(41.53%). Only 118 Chikungunya positive cases could be traced, of which 25.42% complained about sequelae of infection. In entomological investigation, Aedes aegypti was more predominant(92.10%) than Aedes albopictus(7.90%). No mosquito pools could be incriminated for Chikungunya virus. Conclusions: In this study, Chikungunya was observed to be prevalent in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. Though Chikungunya is a selflimiting infection, increasing morbidity by CHIKV infection is affecting social and economic status of individual. Thus, a community empowerment to effectively control mosquito population by employing different mosquito control measures along with personal protection is mandatory to tackle future outbreak of the disease.

An electrochemically pretreated silver macroporous(Ag MP) multiwalled carbon nanotube modified glassy carbon electrode(PAN-Ag MP-MWCNT-GCE) was fabricated for the selective determination of an antihyperlipidimic drug, pitavastatin(PST). The fabricated electrochemical sensor was characterized by cyclic voltammetry(CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS). The fabricated electrode was employed in quantifying and determining PST through differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetry(DPAdSV) and CV. The electrode fabrication proceeded with remarkable sensitivity to the determination of PST. The effect of various optimized parameters such as pH, scan rate(ν), accumulation time(t_(acc)), accumulation potential(U_(acc))and loading volumes of Ag MP-MWCNT suspension were investigated to evaluate the performance of synthesized electrochemical sensor and to propose a simple, accurate, rapid and economical procedure for the quantification of PST in pharmaceutical formulations and biological fluids. A linear response of PST concentration in the range 2.0×10^(-7)–1.6×10^(-6)M with low detection(LOD) and quantification(LOQ) limits of 9.66 ± 0.04 nM and 32.25 ± 0.07 nM, respectively, were obtained under these optimized conditions.

This research work blooms the new idea of developing a safe and controlled drug releasing matrix using multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs).In aqueous solution,uniform and highly stable dispersion of MWCNTs was obtained after secondary functionalization with polyethylene glycol(PEG)which was studied by Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).Solution casting method was used to prepare MWCNTs/gelatin-chitosan nanocomposite films and the effect of MWCNTs on physico-mechanical,thermal and water uptake properties of the nanocomposites were *** of MWCNTs into the porous gelatin-chitosan matrix showed interesting stiffness and dampness along with developed microfibrillar structures within the pore walls intended at being used in tissue engineering of bone or cartilage.A common antibiotic drug,ciprofloxacin was incorporated into nanocomposite *** evaluation of the effect of MWCNTs on drug release rate by dissolution test and antimicrobial susceptibility test was *** release of the drug was found at early stages(~1 h),but the rate was reduced afterwards,showing a sustained *** was observed that for all microorganisms,the antibacterial activities of drug loaded MWCNTs/gelatin-chitosan nanocomposites were higher than that of drug loaded gelatin-chitosan composite films containing no *** statistical studies by ANOVA techniques also showed remarkable difference between the antibacterial activities,exhibited by MWCNTs-incorporated and non-incorporated composite films.

Increased power density in modern miniaturized electronics caused difficulty in keeping electronic performance *** challenge leads to the search for high-performance compact heat exchanger as one of the thermal management *** manufactured heat exchangers had limitations that thwart the develop-ment of geometrically complex heat exchangers which are capable of exploiting topological aspects to enhance thermal ***,additive manufacturing(AM)is proposed as a powerful fabrication tech-nique for compact heat exchanger based on the mathematically known triply periodic minimal surfaces(TPMS).In this work,we present 3D compact crossflow heat exchanger computational fluid dynamics(CFD)modelling of geometrically complex structures based on TPMS using STARCCM+CFD ***,CFD modelling is used to obtain new characteristics maps that relate heat transfer effectiveness(Ɛ)and number of transfer units for the proposed heat *** convection heat transfer coefficient,pressure drop,and inlet and outlet fluid temperature are all examined.
