Natural disasters usually involve a phenomenon with consequences that exceed the response capabilities of local communities and have a significant impact on the region’s socioeconomic development. Droughts, floods, and hurricanes are all natural disasters that jeopardize the environment and the lives of Somalis. Severe floods have devastated the south and central parts of the country multiple times, destroying infrastructure and homes and killing many vulnerable people. Droughts in the south and central parts of the country, particularly in the Middle Shebelle region, have killed a number of children and mothers. It also had a negative influence on crops and cattle. Objective of this study is to know the recurrence of Natural Disasters in Jowhar, Middle Shabelle region, Somalia: The Causes and Impacts. The Somali people are completely aware of natural disasters such as droughts and floods, and they are self-sufficient in dealing with the consequences of these disasters. Furthermore, the Somali government has not fully created environmental laws to protect and conserve the environment, and the majority of laws, rules, acts, and regulations are not used or administered effectively. We also found that the Somali government is not yet financially prepared to deal with these crises, and that there are no strategic plans in the central government or even state administrations to prevent or at least control these disasters from causing extreme harm to the community and the environment.

Lung Cancer Detection Using CT Image Based on 3D Convolutional Neural Network

Early detection of lung nodule is of great importance for the successful diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Many researchers have tried with diverse methods, such as thresholding, computer-aided diagnosis system, pattern recognition technique, backpropagation algorithm, etc. Recently, convolutional neural network (CNN) finds promising applications in many areas. In this research, we investigated 3D CNN to detect early lung cancer using LUNA 16 dataset. At first, we preprocessed raw image using thresholding technique. Then we used Vanilla 3D CNN classifier to determine whether the image is cancerous or non-cancerous. The experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve a detection accuracy of about 80% and it is a satisfactory performance compared to the existing technique.

Animal Manure, Neem Cake, Biochar, Vermicompost or Urea: Choosing the Better Option for <i>Spinacia oleracea</i>Growth and Soil Fertility

Production of safe food through organic farming while maintaining soil sustainability is the crucial challenge of recent time. As such a pot experiment was conducted using animal manure (TAM), neem-cake (TNC), vermicompost (TVC), biochar (TBC) and urea (TU) with control (TC) to assess their capacity to stimulate Spinacia oleracea growth under field condition and their impact on soil fertility. Six treatments: TC, TAM, TNC, TVC, TBC, TU with three replications were used in completely randomized design (CRD). All the plant growth parameters were measured at regular interval up to maturity. Complete chemical analysis of plant tissue, amendments and soil was carried out. Nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) under different treatments was calculated at 45 and 60 days. All the treatments showed statistically significant (P i.e., plant height with P (R = 0.887);leaf area with N (R = 0.957) and P (R = 0.985);dry weight with N (R = 0.996), P (R = 0.994) and K (R = 0.860). Significant (P < 0.001) increase in post-harvest soil C and CEC content was found with all the treatments. The highest availability of N, P and S was observed under treatment TNC. For short duration crop like spinach, TNC is the best option followed by TVC as they release nutrient quickly than TBC and TAM.

Influence of Biogeochemical Qualities of Shizuoka Water on the Degradation of PVC Shower Hose

Recently, it has been report of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) shower hoses becoming hard and brittle throughout the eastern and middle portion of Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. No reason has been identified for this phenomenon. The affected cities are located at the paper industries area. We have collected the stiffed hoses attached to shower faucets and examined them for chemical changes. In addition, we have analyzed the water quality of 11 affected cities in Shizuoka in an attempt to establish a probable bio-physico-chemical chain reaction that could cause such hose degradation. According to elemental analysis, oxygen-containing carbon-based plasticizers may leach out of the hose. As a result, the hoses lost flexibility after one year of use in Shizuoka. The organic nutrient (1,4-dioxane) was identified by GC-MS and the utmost number of the heterotrophic bacteria has been detected by PCR-DGGE in the shower water of Shizuoka. The study concludes that the plasticizer disappeared from the stiffed hose and the special characteristics of water in Shizuoka, consisting of organic nutrients, can be used for heterotrophic bacterial growth as a energy source at the shower water temperature, which allows prompt utilization of the plasticizer by increasing abundant bacteria, causing the brittleness of the PVC hose.

Essential Gene(s) Targeted by Peptide Nucleic Acids Kills <i>Mycobacterium smegmatis</i>in Culture and in Infected Macrophages

Background: Antisense peptide nucleic acids (PNAs) exhibit growth inhibitory effects on bacteria by inhibiting the expression of essential genes and could be promising therapeutic agents for treating bacterial infections. A study was carried out to determine the efficacy of several antisense PNAs in inhibiting extracellular and intracellular growth of Mycobacterium smegmatis. Methods: Six PNAs obtained from a commercial supplier were tested to evaluate the inhibitory effect on bacterial growth by inhibiting the expression of the following essential genes: inhA (a fatty acid elongase), rpsL (ribosomal S12 protein), gyrA (DNA gyrase), pncA (pyrazinamidase), polA (DNA polymerase I) and rpoC (RNA polymerase β subunit) of M. smegmatis. Each PNA was tested at 20 μM, 10 μM, 5 μM and 2.5 μM concentrations to determine whether they caused a dose dependent killing of M. smegmatis cultured in Middlebrook 7H9 broth or in a J774A.1 murine macrophage cell line. Results: In Middlebrook broth, the strong growth inhibitory effect against M. smegmatis was observed by PNAs targeting the inhA and rpsL genes at all four concentrations. The PNAs targeting the pncA, polA and rpoC genes were found to exhibit strong growth inhibition against M. smegmatis but only at 20 μM concentration. No growth inhibition of M. smegmatis was seen in pure culture when treated with PNAs targeting gyrA and a mismatch PNA targeting dnaG (DNA primase). All six PNAs showed killing of M. smegmatis in J774A.1 macrophage cell line that were statistically significant (p Conclusion: It may be concluded from this study that PNAs could be potential therapeutics for mycobacterial infections.

A Novel LSB Steganography Technique for Enhancing Cloud Security

Steganography is a technique that is frequently used to hide hidden information in multimedia artifacts including music, video, and images. In order to protect data saved in the cloud, this paper presents a steganography method for encrypting sound utilizing LSB-based computation. By using the least significant bit (LSB) of a byte to represent a message and then substituting each LSB bit with a binary message and encrypting a significant quantity of data. The proposed system uses the LSB technique of picture steganography, Multi-Level Encryption Algorithm (MLEA) and Two-Level Encryption Algorithm (TLEA) data encryption to give the highest level of cloud security. Compared to other current schemes, the performance of the suggested method is 1.732125% better on average.

Objective:To evaluate the pharmacological activity against diarrhea of methanol and petroleum ether extract ofDesmodium puchellum(Family:Fabaceae)***:The extract was evaluated for castor oil-induced diarrhea and enteropooling as well as intestinal motility in *** of the extracts were given to the rats at 200 mg/kg *** was used as a standard drug for ***:The diarrheal severity was reduced significantly(P<0.05)by methanol and petroleum ether extracts by 31.95% and 28.33%,respectively,whereas 54.75% inhibition was found for standard drug loperamide at 5 mg/*** two extracts also significantly(P<0.05) reduced the intestinal volume in case of castor oil induced ***:It is concluded that both fractions contain some biologically active ingredients that are active for anti-diarrheal actions whereas methanol fraction has better potential.

Mineralogical and Physical Characterization of Clay of Sitakunda Anticline: Used for Ceramic Industries

This study focuses on mineralogical and chemical characterization of clay of Sitakunda anticline, Bangladesh and potential suitability of this shale as raw materials in ceramic industries. The shale which is clay in texture is composed of chlorite and kaolinite with common illite, smectite, quartz, mica and feldspar. There are two types of samples in color, grey and red. Chemical compositions of clay samples are analyzed by XRF and mineralogical composition of sample analyzed by XRD. Clay samples contain significant amount SiO2, Al2O3 and Fe2O3 with other minor compounds. The plasticity index (12.08 and 16.37) indicates medium ranges of the plasticity of clay. To determine the suitability of ceramic materials, samples were made in a rectangular shape for firing 850°C to 1100°C temperature. The samples were tested for different physical properties such as compressive strength, linear shrinkage, water absorption, porosity and bulk density. Low linear firing shrinkage (0.7% to 2.69%) and water absorption (1.5% to 11%) of the developed ceramic bodies were observed. Scanning Electron Microscope photographs confirm the vitrification of the ceramic bodies. The chemical, physical and ceramic properties of these clays indicate their suitability as raw materials for the production of a wide range of ceramic materials.

Farmers’ Knowledge on Climate Change Effects in Agriculture

The major objectives of the study were to determine farmers’ knowledge on climate change effects in agriculture and to identify the factors that influenced farmers’ knowledge on climate change effects in agriculture. The study was conducted in four villages under Kazipur upazila of Sirajgonj district. Data were collected by using interview schedule from randomly selected 113 respondents during 1st January to 30th January, 2018. The findings revealed that an overwhelming majority (78.8%) of the respondents had medium to high knowledge on climate change effects in agriculture. Among eight selected characteristics, extension media contact, training received, organizational participation, and cosmopoliteness had significant positive contribution to the farmers’ knowledge on climate change effects in agriculture. It is recommended that to increase farmers’ knowledge on climate change effects initiative should be taken to improve farmers’ knowledge through more involving with organization, extension media and program.
