Enhancing Power Line Insulator Health Monitoring with a Hybrid Generative Adversarial Network and YOLO3 Solution

In the critical field of electrical grid maintenance, ensuring the integrity of power line insulators is a primary concern. This study introduces an innovative approach for monitoring the condition of insulators using aerial surveillance via drone-mounted cameras. The proposed method is a composite deep learning framework that integrates the "You Only Look Once" version 3 (YOLO3) model with deep convolutional generative adversarial networks (DCGAN) and super-resolution generative adversarial networks (SRGAN). The YOLO3 model excels in rapidly and accurately detecting insulators, a vital step in assessing their health. Its effectiveness in distinguishing insulators against complex backgrounds enables prompt detection of defects, essential for proactive maintenance. This rapid detection is enhanced by DCGAN's precise classification and SRGAN's image quality improvement, addressing challenges posed by low-resolution drone imagery. The framework's performance was evaluated using metrics such as sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, localization accuracy, damage sensitivity, and false alarm rate. Results show that the SRGAN+DCGAN+YOLO3 model significantly outperforms existing methods, with a sensitivity of 98%, specificity of 94%, an overall accuracy of 95.6%, localization accuracy of 90%, damage sensitivity of 92%, and a reduced false alarm rate of 8%. This advanced hybrid approach not only improves the detection and classification of insulator conditions but also contributes substantially to the maintenance and health of power line insulators, thus ensuring the reliability of the electrical power grid.

DEM modeling of high shear wet granulation of a simple system

High shear wet granulation(HSWG) is one of the most poorly understood processes with known difficulties in optimization and scale up. The purpose of the current study is to develop a DEM model which can be applied under dynamic process conditions with high predictive capacity to improve process insight. The DEM model is used to predict agglomeration as a function of impeller speed and liquid addition rate in a high shear wet granulator. The DEM model tracks dynamic formation and breakage of liquid bridges between particles as liquid binder in the system is added, and corrects for the change in material properties as a function of the binder content.

Robust Nonlinear Analytic Redundancy for Fault Detection and Isolation in Mobile Robot

A robust nonlinear analytical redundancy （RNLAR） technique is presented to detect and isolate actuator and sensor faults in a mobile robot. Both model-plant-mismatch （MPM） and process disturbance are considered during fault detection. The RNLAR is used to design primary residual vectors （PRV）, which are highly sensitive to the faults and less sensitive to MPM and process disturbance, for sensor and actuator fault detection. The PRVs are then transformed into a set of structured residual vectors （SRV） for fault isolation. Experimental results on a Pioneer 3-DX mobile robot are presented to justify the effectiveness of the RNLAR scheme.

A better understanding of the mixing behavior of excited turbulent mixing layers is critical to a number of aerospace *** studies of excited turbulent mixing layers focused on single frequency excitation or the excitation with fundamental and its second harmonic *** is a lack of detailed studies on applying low and higher frequency *** this study,we have performed large-eddy simulations of periodically excited turbulent mixing *** excitation consists of a fundamental frequency and its third *** have used phase-averaging to identify the vortex structure and strength in the mixing layer,and we have studied the vortex *** different vortex paring mechanisms are observed depending on the phase shift between the two excitation *** influence of these two mechanisms on the mixing of a passive scalar is also *** is found that exciting the mixing layer with these low and high frequencies has initially an adverse influence on the mixing process;however,it improves the mixing further downstream of the splitter plate with the excitation using a phase shift ofΔφ=πshowing the best mixing *** present works shed lights on the fundamental vortex dynamics,and has great potential for aeronautical,automotive and combustion engineering applications.

Facies analysis and paleoenvironmental interpretation of Piacenzian carbonate deposits from the Guitar Formation of Car Nicobar Island,India

Facies characterization of Piacenzian （late Pliocene） carbonate sediments of the Guitar Formation in Car Nicobar Island,India and the subsequent integration of paleoecological data have been applied to interpret the paleoenvironment of the coralline algal-reef ***-section analysis reveals that Amphiroa,Corallina and Jania are the dominant geniculate corallines,while Lithothamnion,Mesophyllum,Phymatolithon,Lithophyllum,Spongites and Lithoporella are the major non-geniculate corallines contributing to the sedimentary *** small and larger benthic foraminifera also dominate the biogenic ***,barnacle shells,echinoid spines,fragments of bryozoans,mollusks and ostracodes are the subordinate *** dominate the studied facies while packstones and boundstones （with wackestone elements） are the sub lithofacies showing a fair *** carbonate facies presenting a complete reef complex have been distinguished that were deposited in shallow intertidal,back-reef shelf/lagoon,reef and deeper fore-reef shelf *** of coralline algal and benthic foraminiferal assemblages,taphonomic signatures of abrasion and fragmentation,grain size,angularity and encrustation indicate a shallow to relatively deeper bathymetric horizon of approximately 10-60 m that corresponds to a regime of high to moderate hydrodynamic conditions.

Protein denaturation is under intensive research, since it leads to neurological disorders of severe consequences. Avoiding denaturation and stabilizing the proteins in their native state is of great importance,especially when proteins are used as drug molecules or vaccines. It is preferred to add pharmaceutical excipients in protein formulations to avoid denaturation and thereby stabilize them. The present study aimed at using bile salts(BSs), a group of well-known drug delivery systems, for stabilization of *** serum albumin(BSA) was taken as the model protein, whose association with two BSs, namely sodium cholate(Na C) and sodium deoxycholate(Na DC), was studied. Denaturation studies on the preformed BSA-BS systems were carried out under chemical and physical denaturation conditions. Urea was used as the chemical denaturant and BSA-BS systems were subjected to various temperature conditions to understand the thermal(physical) denaturation. With the denaturation conditions prescribed here,the data obtained is informative on the association of BSA-BS systems to be hydrophobic and this effect of hydrophobicity plays an important role in stabilizing the serum albumin in its native state under both chemical and thermal denaturation.

Performance Optimization of Microstrip Antenna with Different Slot Configurations and Various Dielectric Materials

The probe-fed patch antennas were proposed by changing the parameters such as dielectric materials and dimensions of patch for detail investigation of changes in output characteristics. Four rectangular slots were introduced separately for optimizing the antenna design and characteristics. This study illustrated the changes of output characteristics of an antenna with respect to the number of introduced slots on the radiating patch in addition to the effect of various dielectric materials on antenna performances. The antenna performances were analyzed by plotting the observation of various dielectric materials. The changes of antenna characteristics were also observed by introducing four numbers of slots on each edge of the patch to improve radiation characteristics with a wider impedance bandwidth.

Morphological and Microstructural Evidences of Paleo-Seisminc Occurrences in an Earthquake Prone Zone of Tripura, India

Morphology and structure of a faulted zone not only express the present status but also preserve the evidences of early seismo-tectonic occurrences. The present paper aims to assess the morphological as well as subsurface evidences of early seismo-tectonic occurrences in an earth- quake prone zone of Baromura Hill, Tripura. Tectonically this is a part of Tripura-Mizoram fold belt and fall within Zone V of BIS seismic map. In the present research the tectonic lineaments of Baromura Hill was identified by using satellite data. For that purpose, Landsat TM shortwave in- frared, midwave infrared and near infrared was selected for preparing suitable band combination. A classified thermal infrared was used for final operation. From the remote sensing operation five clear tectonic lineaments were found. During the field work rock samples were collected for labora- tory testing. Thin sections of the rocks show that complex stress pattern was developed during the geological past which caused strong seismo-tectonic occurrences. From the study it can be assessed that though the nature of the paleo-seismic occurrences were almost same but the level of impact varied through spatial and temporal scales due different physical properties and arrangements. It is also clear from the study that the geological evolution of this place is more complex as it seems to be. Tectonic and geomorphic processes worked together through the Tertiary and Quaternary periods and played equally important role for landform evolution.
