Genesis and Tectonic Implications of the Kabr El-Bonaya Ultramafic Rocks,Sinai Peninsula,Egypt:Constraints from Mineralogical and Geochemical Characteristics

The Kabr El-Bonaya mafic–ultramafic intrusion is exposed along the southeastern border of the Sinai Peninsula and the northernmost segment of the Arabian-Nubian Shield(ANS).It occurs as an elliptical intrusive body that is located along the major NE–SW trending fracture zones that prevail in the Kid metamorphic *** ultramafic rocks in the complex comprise ultramafic cumulates of peridotites(dunite,harzburgite and wehrlite)and *** rocks are generally unmetamorphosed and have intrusive contacts with the country *** chemistry and whole-rock chemical compositions of these ultramafic rocks are mostly consistent with those of residual mantle peridotites from refractory suprasubduction tectonic *** on the variations of the major elements,the studied ultramafic rocks are consistent with those of a supra-subduction zone mantle,as it seems to have melted at 1–2 GPa and 1300–1450℃.Linear variations of Al2O3,Ca O,V and Ni with Mg O,coupled with incompatible and rare-earth-element depletion and mineral compositions,suggest prior events of partial melting in both wehrlites and *** LREE enrichment in the harzburgite,as well as the development of Cr-rich spinel,is consistent with a history of melt–peridotite *** calculated(Sm/Yb)N variations for the studied peridotites indicate a general increase in the addition of fluids with an increasing degree of melting from the wehrlite(~13–15 wt%of fluid)in the source,after initial spinel peridotite melting to the harzburgite(~20–25 wt%of fluid)in the same source,which is contrary to normal abyssal *** estimated equilibration temperature ranges from 1214 to 1321℃for the studied wehrlites and from 1297 to 1374℃for *** Mg-rich nature of the analysed olivines from the studied ultramafic rocks(Fo=81.41 to 91.77)reflect their primary composition and are similar to olivines in Alaskan-type ultramafic *** Fo content of the analyzed olivines decrease sli

Geotectonic significance of the Neoproterozoic ophiolitic metagabbros of Muiswirab area,South Eastern Desert,Egypt:constraints from their mineralogical and geochemical characteristics

Petrological and geochemical studies of Neo-proterozoic metagabbros were carried out in the Muiswirab area,South Eastern Desert of *** Muiswirab area comprises of ophiolitic metagabbroic rocks(MOM),which are tectonically thrusted over a thick pile of metavolcanic rocks and intruded by syn-and post-tectonic granitoid *** whole-rock geochemical variations coupled with chemical compositions of mineral constituents are used to attain the genesis and tectonic evolution of the studied *** geothermobarometric investiga-tion of the analyzed amphiboles from(MOM)revealed that these metagabbros underwent regional metamorphism under lower to upper greenschist facies(biotite zone)conditions(at a temperature of 450 to 500℃and pressure of 1-3 kbar).Geochemically,the metagabbros(MOM)show tholeiitic affinity and cxhibiting both arc-and MORB-like characters as evidenced by their clinopyrox-ene compositions and the Ti/V ratios(11.84-31.65),which considered as prominent features of forearc tectonic *** geochemical features suggest a probable fractionation of olivine±clinopyroxene±plagioclase as well as insignificant crustal *** parental magma of the investigated MOM rocks seems to be developed in a sub-arc mantle wedge setting due to the enrichments of LILE(e.g..Rb,Ba,Sr,Pb)over HFSE(e.g,Ti,Nb,Y,Zr,Hf,Ta).The studied MOM rocks have lower values of Nb/U relative to MORB and OIB indicating that their geochemical variation produced due to the enrichment of a lithosphere mantle by OIB like *** ratios of Zn/Fet,La/Sm,Sm/Yb,Th/Yb and Nb/Yb indicate that the MOM rocks represent a fragment of oceanic crust originated at a supra-subduction zone environment and their parental magma developed by 5-30%partial melting of a spinel lherzolite mantle rather than pyroxenite in an island arc setting and conformable with most of the Egyptian ophiolitic metagabbros.

Constraints of Mantle and Crustal Sources Interaction during Orogenesis of Pre-and Post-collision Granitoids from the Northern Arabian-Nubian Shield:A Case Study from Wadi El-Akhder Granitoids,Southern Sinai,Egypt

The Egyptian older and younger granitic rocks emplaced during pre-and post-collision stages of Neoproterozoic Pan-African orogeny,respectively,are widely distributed in the southern Sinai Peninsula,constituting 70% of the basement *** Wadi El-Akhder,southwestern Sinai,is a mountainous terrain exposing two granitoid suites,namely the Wadi El-Akhder Older Granites(AOG)and the Homra Younger Granites(HYG).The AOG(granodiorites with subordinate tonalite compositions)have geochemical characteristics of medium-K calc-alkaline,metaluminous to mildly peraluminous granitoids formed in an island-arc environment,which are conformable with well-known Egyptian older granitoids rocks,whereas the HYG display calc-alkaline to slightly alkaline nature,peraluminous syeno-,monzogranites and alkali feldspar granites matching well those of the Egyptian younger *** respect to the AOG granitoids,the HYG granites contain lower Al_(2)O_(3),FeO^(*),MgO,MnO,CaO,TiO_(2),Sr,Ba,and V,but higher Na_(2)O,K_(2)O,Nb,Zr,Th,and *** AOG are generally characterized by enrichment in LILE and LREE and depletion in HFSE relative to N-MORB values(e.g.,negative Nb and Ta anomalies).The geochemical features of the AOG follow assimilation-fractional crystallization(AFC)trends indicative of extensive crustal contamination of magma derived from a mantle *** chemical characteristics of the AOG are remarkably similar to those of subduction-related granitoids from the ArabianNubian Shield(ANS).The compositional variations from monzogranites through syenogranites to alkali feldspar granite within HYG could not be explained by fractional crystallization *** the whole-rock composition of the HYG to melts generated by experimental dehydration melting of meta-sedimentary and magmatic rocks reveals that they appear to be derived by extended melting of psammitic and pelitic metasediments,which is similar to the most of younger granitic suites in the ANS.

Evaluation of the microstructure,thermal and mechanical properties of Cu/SiC nanocomposites fabricated by mechanical alloying

Nano-sized silicon carbide(SiC:0wt%,1wt%,2wt%,4wt%,and 8wt%)reinforced copper(Cu)matrix nanocomposites were manufactured,pressed,and sintered at 775 and 875℃in an argon atmosphere.X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscopy were performed to characterize the microstructural *** density,thermal expansion,mechanical,and electrical properties were *** analyses showed that with increasing SiC content,the microstrain and dislocation density increased,while the crystal size *** coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE)of the nanocomposites was less than that of the Cu *** improvement in the CTE with increasing sintering temperature may be because of densification of the ***,the mechanical properties of these nanocomposites showed noticeable enhancements with the addition of SiC and sintering temperatures,where the microhardness and apparent strengthening efficiency of nanocomposites containing 8wt%SiC and sintered at 875℃were 958.7 MPa and 1.07 vol%^(−1),*** electrical conductivity of the sample slightly decreased with additional SiC and increased with sintering *** prepared Cu/SiC nanocomposites possessed good electrical conductivity,high thermal stability,and excellent mechanical properties.

Treating wastewater under zero waste principle using wetland mesocosms

The present investigation demonstrates the synergistic action of using a sedimentation unit together with Cyperus papyrus(L.)wetland enriched with zeolite mineral in one-year round experiment for treating *** system was designed to support a horizontal surface flow pattern and showed satisfactory removal efficiencies for both physicochemical and bacteriological contaminants within 3 days of residence *** removal efficiencies ranged between 76.3%and 98.8%for total suspended solids,turbidity,iron,biological oxygen demand,and *** bacterial indicators(total and fecal coliforms,as well as fecal streptococci)and the potential pathogens(Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,and Pseudomonas aeruginosa)showed removal efficiencies ranged between 96.9%and 99.8%.We expect the system to offer a smart management for every component according to zero waste *** treated effluent was reused to irrigate the landscape of pilot area,and the excess sludge was recycled as fertilizer and soil *** zeolite mineral did not require regeneration for almost 36 weeks of operation,and enhanced the density of shoots(14.11%)and the height of shoots(15.88%).The harvested plant biomass could be a profitable resource for potent antibacterial and antioxidant bioactive *** could certainly offset part of the operation and maintenance costs and optimize the system implementation *** the experiment was designed under local conditions,its results could provide insights to upgrade and optimize the performance of other analogous large-scale constructed wetlands.

Factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding in relation to knowledge,attitude and practice of breastfeeding mothers in Rabigh community,Western Saudi Arabia

Background There is much concern about declining rates of exclusive breastfeeding(EBF)all over the world including Saudi Arabia which deprives infants from many immunological,nutritional,and psychosocial *** study was per-formed to determine EBF prevalence and factors influencing EBF in relation to knowledge,attitude and practice(KAP)of breastfeeding mothers(BFM)in Rabigh,Western Saudi *** Data about factors that could be associated with EBF and KAP of BFM were collected by cross-sectional ques-tionnaire-based study from 420 *** Prevalence of EBF for 6 months was 27.6%which is far below World Health Organization ***,socioeconomic,biomedical as well as most studied variables of KAP of 50%to over 90%of participating mothers were adequate to account for low EBF *** knowledge about benefits of colostrum and continuation of breastfeeding for 2 years was given by only 86.2%and 36.7%of BFM,*** most significant independent factors associated with EBF were perception of sufficient human milk[adjusted odds ratio(AOR)2.89;95%confidence interval(CI)1.72-4.89],absence of nipple pain(AOR 2.77;95%CI 1.72-4.45)and mothers without university education(AOR 1.86;95%CI 1.15-3.01).Early introduction of formula in hospital after birth was the main inappropriate feeding practice in 76.2%of infants of *** Findings of this study should be utilized by Rabigh community and other national or worldwide communities with similar characters to promote EBF by targeted educational programs after identification of significant factors inltuenc-ing EBF and gaps in KAP of BFM.

Association of anxiety- depressive disorders with irritable bowel syndrome among patients attending a rural family practice center: a comparative cross- sectional study

Background Comorbidity of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)and psychiatric disorders is common,and the prevalence of at least one psychiatric disorder has been reported as high as 80%among patients with *** To explore the association of anxiety-depressive disorders with IBS and its different subtypes,and to evaluate the associations of lifestyle habits,dietary habits and sleeping quality with *** A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted at the AL-Mahsama Family Practice Center,Ismailia,*** was carried out between October 2019 and October *** were categorised into 175 patients with IBS,diagnosed using the Rome IV criteria,and 175 patients without IBS.A semistructured questionnaire was used to collect data on sociodemographic characteristics,lifestyle habits,dietary habits and sleep quality from both *** Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale was used to assess anxiety symptoms,whereas the Beck Depression Inventory Second Edition was used to assess depression *** There was a high statistically significant difference between both groups with regard to age,education,occupation and socioeconomic status(SES),being a smoker,being physically inactive,having sleep disturbance and having irregular meals;being either obese or overweight was more reported in the IBS *** was a high statistically significant difference in the rate of anxiety and depression between patients with and without ***,moderate and severe anxiety were reported in 37.1%,42.9%and 20.0%of patients with IBS while most(80.0%)of the patients without IBS reported mild *** depression,mild,moderate and severe depression were reported in 60.0%,14.3%and 25.7%of the patients with IBS while most(82.9%)of the non-IBS participants reported mild *** The study shows a significant association between anxiety-depressive disorders and IBS,but no significant associations between anxiety-depressive disorders and IBS subtypes.

Antifouling evaluation of extracts from Red Sea soft corals against primary biofilm and biofouling

Objectives: To evaluate antifouling property of extracts from Red Sea soft corals against primary biofilm and ***: Seven species of soft corals Sarcophyton glaucum(a), Sinularia compressa,Sinularia cruciata(a), Heteroxenia fuscescens(a), Sarcophyton glaucum(b), Heteroxenia fuscescens(b) and Sinularia cruciata(b) were chosen to test their extracts as antibacterial and antifouling agents in Eastern Harbour of Alexandria, Mediterranean *** compounds of soft corals were extracted by using methanol and concentrated under vacuum. The residues of extracts were mixed in formulation of inert paint which consisted of rosin, chlorinated rubber and ferrous oxide against micro and macro fouling organisms. The formulated paints were then applied on PVC panels twice by brush,hanged in a steel frame and immersed in Eastern Harbour of Alexandria Mediterranean Sea followed by visual inspection and photographic ***: After 185 days of immersion in seawater, the antifouling results agreed with the antibacterial results where extracts of Sinularia compressa and Heteroxenia fuscescens(b) gave the best activity against marine fouling tubeworms and barnacles. The inhibition activity was correlated with the major functional groups(hydroxyl, amino, carbonyl,aliphatic(fatty acids), C]C of alkene or aromatic rings and CeC l of aryl halides) of the ***: The strong antifouling activity makes them promising candidates for new antifouling additives. After the screening and application of natural organic compounds from soft corals, marine organisms show activity against micro and macro fouling organisms.
