Wild chive oil is an extremely effective larvicide against malaria mosquito vector Anopheles stephensi

Objective: To assess the chemical composition and mosquito larvicidal potentials of essential oil of wild chive(Allium schoenoprasum L.) against Anopheles ***: In the search for an environmentally safer alternative mosquitoes control, the larvicidal efficacy of essential oil obtained from the leaves of Allium schoenoprasum L. against Anopheles stephensi was determined. The composition of chive essential oil was analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Results: In toxicity assays, the essential oil demonstrated substantial larvicidal activity against larvae of Anopheles stephensi with LC_(50) and LC_(90) values of 2.60, and 7.31 ppm after 24 h of exposure, respectively. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis of chive essential oil identified 35 components representing more than 97.31% of the total essential oil. The main constituents were sulfur compounds, including diallyl trisulfide(13.72%), 2-ethyl[1,3]dithiane(8.93%), allyl methyl trisulfide(8.77%), and trimethylene trisulfide(6.64%), respectively. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that wild chive essential oil has a rich source of eco-friendly bioactive compounds for use as a mosquito larvicide. The main reason for its extraordinary properties may be related to the high percentage of sulfur compounds.

Objective:To determine the effects of environmental parameters of lanal habitats on distribution and abundance of anopheline mosquitoes in Rudan county of ***:This cross-sectional study was conducted during the mosquito breeding season from February 2010 to October 2011. Greater complexity is involved in the transient pressure analysis of horizontal oil wells in contrast to vertical wells,as the horizontal wells are considered entirely horizontal and parallel with the top and underneath boundaries of the oil ***,there is an essential need to estimate productivity of horizontal wells accurately to examine the effectiveness of a horizontal well in terms of technical and economic *** this work,novel and rigorous methods based on two different types of intelligent approaches including the artificial neural network(ANN)linked to the particle swarm optimization(PSO)tool are developed to precisely forecast the productivity of horizontal wells under pseudo-steady-state *** was found that there is very good match between the modeling output and the real data taken from the literature,so that a very low average absolute error percentage is attained(e.g.,<0.82%).The developed techniques can be also incorporated in the numerical reservoir simulation packages for the purpose of accuracy improvement as well as better parametric sensitivity analysis.

Naturally fractured hydrocarbon reservoir simulation by elastic fracture modeling

Accurate fluid flow simulation in geologically complex reservoirs is of particular importance in construction of reservoir *** approaches in naturally fractured reservoir simulation involve use of unstructured grids or a structured grid coupled with locally unstructured grids and discrete fracture *** methods suffer from drawbacks such as lack of flexibility and of ease of *** this study,I combined fracture modeling by elastic gridding which improves flexibility,especially in complex *** proposed model revises conventional modeling fractures by hard rigid planes that do not change through *** is a dubious assumption,especially in reservoirs with a high production rate in the *** proposed elastic fracture modeling considers changes in fracture properties,shape and aperture through the *** strategy is only reliable for naturally fractured reservoirs with high fracture permeability and less permeable matrix and parallel fractures with less *** of elastic fracture modeling results with conventional modeling showed that these assumptions will cause production pressure to enlarge fracture apertures and change fracture shapes,which consequently results in lower production compared with what was previously *** is concluded that an elastic gridded model could better simulate reservoir performance.

Ultrasonic irradiation and solvent effects on destabilization of colloidal suspensions of platinum nanoparticles

In this work,ultrasonic irradiation and destabilizer solvent were used for destabilizing colloidal platinum *** stabilized platinum nanoparticles were prepared in w/o microemulsion systems composed of sodium bis-（2-ethylhexyl） sulfosuccinate（AOT） and four different solvents,namely,cyclohexane,n-hexane,n-heptane,and *** recovery process of Pt nanoparticles from the colloidal systems was performed by exposing the colloidal samples to ultrasonic irradiation and applying various destabilizing *** of UV-visible spectra confirms that the quantity of Pt nanoparticles removed from the suspension depends on the length of time of the ultrasonic irradiation and the nature of the microemulsion oil phase.A critical time for the ultrasonic irradiation has been introduced for the phase separation of colloidal *** perform the solvent study,four destabilizer solvents,namely,dioxane,ethyl acetate,diethyl ether,and tetrahydrofuran,were used for breaking the colloidal suspension of platinum *** on the ’good solvent’ and ’poor solvent’ idea,it is verified that the effect of the destabilizer solvents on the aggregation process follows the following order：tetrahydrofuran 〉 ethyl acetate 〉dioxane〉 diethyl ether.

The impact of Persian oak (Quercus brantii Lindl.) on soil characteristics in a declining forest

Root activity has an important impact on soil development but we have little knowledge of the interaction of the root zone and soil genetic *** aim of this investigation was to study the interactions between soil chemical characteristics and root zone processes in a declining Persian oak forest(Quercus brantii Lindl.).A randomized complete block design was used to investigate the long-term eff ect of Persian oak on soil horizons,and the chemical and biological properties in two soil zones(under and outside the canopy).Results indicate that the rhizosphere zone had signifi cantly higher total organic carbon(TOC)than outside the canopy soil in the upper soil *** subsurface horizons,water-extractable organic carbon values were signifi cantly higher in rhizosphere than in non-rhizospheric *** biomass carbon(MBC)values in the rhizospheric zone decreased from the fi rst to the second *** MBC/TOC ratio indicated signifi-cant diff erences between the rhizosphere and soils outside of the canopy,with the exception of the subsurface *** the subsurface horizon of the rhizosphere,there was greater respiration of organic carbon(ΣCO 2/TOC)than in outside of canopy *** addition,root processes infl uenced pH,nitrogen fractions,and availability of phosphorus,potassium,iron,zinc and *** erences in soil characteristics between rhizospheric and non-rhizospheric zones were signifi cant in surface horizons due to higher root density than in deeper soil *** fi ndings indicate that Persian oak(Quercus brantii Lindl.)roots infl uenced the main soil chemical properties,even in calcareous soils.

Quantum transport through a Z-shaped silicene nanoribbon

In this work,the electronic transport properties of Z-shaped silicene nanoribbon（ZsSiNR） structure are *** calculations are based on the tight-binding model and Green＇s function method in Landauer-Biittiker formalism,in which the electronic density of states（DOS）,transmission probability,and current-voltage characteristics of the system are calculated,*** is shown that the geometry of the ZsSiNR structure can play an important role to control the electron transport through the *** is observed that the intensity of electron localization at the edges of the ZsSiNR decreases with the increase of the spin-orbit interaction（SOI） ***,the semiconductor to metallic transition occurs by increasing the SOI *** present theoretical results may be useful to design silicene-based devices in nanoelectronics.

Er^(3+) ion concentration effect on transient and steady-state behavior in Er^(3+):YAG crystal

The effect of Er3＋ ion concentration on transient and steady-state behavior in 45-nm Er3＋：YAG crystal is investigated. It is shown that by changing the signal field, the coherent field and the concentration of Er3＋ ions in the crystal, the absorption, dispersion, and group index of the weak probe field can be adjusted. Also, it is found that the probe absorption occurs in the presence of population inversion and probe amplification is obtained in the absence of population inversion.

Wave Interactions with Multiple Semi-Immersed Jarlan-Type Perforated Breakwaters

This study examines wave interactions with multiple semi-immersed Jarlan-type perforated breakwaters. A numerical model based on linear wave theory and an eigenfunction expansion method has been developed to study the hydrodynamic characteristics of breakwaters. The numerical results show a good agreement with previous analytical results and experimental data for limiting cases of double partially immersed impermeable walls and double and triple Jarlan-type breakwaters. The wave transmission coefficient Cv; reflection coefficient CR, and energy dissipation coefficient CE coefficients and the horizontal wave force exerted on the front and rear walls are examined. The results show that CR reaches the maximum value when B/L = 0.46n while it is smallest when B/L=0.46n＋0.24 （n=0, 1, 2,...）. An economical triple semi-immersed Jarlan-type perforated breakwater can be designed with B/L = 0.25 and CR and CT ranging from 0.25 to 0.32 by choosing a relative draft d/h of 0.35 and a permeability parameter of the perforated front walls being 0.5 for an incident wave number kh nearly equal to 2.0. The triple semi-immersed Jarlan-type perforated breakwaters with significantly reduced CR, will enhance the structure＇s wave absorption ability, and lead to smaller wave forces compared with the double one. The proposed model may be used to predict the response of a structure in the preliminary design stage for practical engineering.
