Application of Machine Learning Methods on Climate Data and Commercial Microwave Link Attenuations for Estimating Meteorological Visibility in Dusty Condition

Accurately measuring meteorological visibility is an important factor in road, sea, rail, and air transportation safety, especially under visibility-reducing weather events. This paper deals with the application of Machine Learning methods to estimate meteorological visibility in dusty conditions, from the power levels of commercial microwave links and weather data including temperature, dew point, wind speed, wind direction, and atmospheric pressure. Three well-known Machine Learning methods are investigated: Decision Trees, Random Forest, and Support Vector Machines. The correlation coefficient and the mean square error, between the visibility distances estimated by Machine Learning methods and those provided by Burkina Faso weather services are computed. Except for the SVM method, all the other methods give a correlation coefficient greater than 0.90. The Random Forest method presents the best result both in terms of correlation coefficient (0.97) and means square error (0.60). For this last method, the best variables that explain the model are selected by evaluating the weight of each variable in the model. The best performance is obtained by considering the attenuation of the microwave signal and the dew point.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the psychic repercussions of sexual assault among female students in Parakou in 2023. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study conducted from December 2022 to July 2023 among all students at the University of Parakou. The sampling technique was stratified non-proportional at two levels. The dependent variable was self-reported sexual assault. The psychopathological repercussions linked to sexual assault and explored in these students were: post-traumatic stress disorder assessed with the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist-5 (PCL-5) scale;and current depression screened with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scale. Results: A total of 376 female students from the University of Parakou meeting the inclusion criteria were surveyed. The average age of the subjects surveyed was 20.56 ± 2.46 years, with extremes of 16 and 32 years. A predominance of subjects under 25 was observed. The prevalence of sexual assault among female students at the University of Parakou was 10.63%. The types of aggression suffered were mostly rape (18 people;45%) and sexual touching (16 people;40%), and the aggressors were mainly friends/boyfriends (13;32.5%), family members (12;30.0%) and people from the house/neighborhood (9;22.5%). Psychological repercussions included depression in 72.5% (29) of cases, with mild depression in 30% (12), moderate depression in 37.5% (15) and severe depression in 5% (2). Anxiety disorders were present in 27.50% (11) of victims. The risk factors associated with sexual assault in these students were gravidity (p = 0.014;OR = 15.32), unhappy life events (p = 0.01;OR = 17.24), and age of first sexual intercourse (p = 0.016;OR = 4.608). Conclusion: One in ten female students in Parakou has been sexually assaulted. Introduction: Neonatal seizures are one of the most challenging situations for paediatricians. The objective of this work was to study the epidemiological and diagnostic aspects and short-term outcomes of neonatal seizures at Issaka Gazoby Maternity Hospital in Niamey. Patients and Methods: This was a prospective study from November 2020 to April 2021 in the neonatology department of Issaka Gazoby Maternity Hospital. All newborns aged 0 to 28 days hospitalized for seizures and/or having convulsions during hospitalization were included. Neonatal characteristics, diagnostic aspects, and their outcomes were studied. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 software. Results: Of the 3.068 newborns admitted, 69 cases of neonatal seizures were recorded (2.24%). The sex ratio was 1.22, and 94.2% of neonates were born at term. Generalized crises were found in 50.7%. The main etiologies were perinatal asphyxia (46.4%) and early-onset neonatal infection (40.6%). The death rate was 20.3%. Neonates died between one (1) and three (3) days of age in 42.9%. The main death causes were perinatal asphyxia (50%) and early-onset neonatal infection (21.4%). Conclusion: Neonatal seizures are uncommon frequent, with a semiology dominated by generalized seizures. Mortality is high. The reinforcement of preventive measures is necessary.

Geotechnical Risk Assessment and Geological Origin of Building Fracturation in Agadez City(North Niger)

The Agadez city is built on the faulted and fractured sandstones formation of the“Agadez Sandstones”,which deposit in unconformity on the Precambrian basement of the Aïr *** present study focuses on the geotechnical risk assessment and geological origin of building fracturation in Agadez city.A methodological approach integrating measurement of fractures planes affecting the buildings and their statistical analysis has been *** analysis of obtained data showed that in 100 fractured buildings,about 3%buildings are at risk of collapse(very high risk),64%buildings are fractured(medium risk of collapse),and 34%buildings are cracked(lower risk of collapse).These results showed as well that the nature of the material(rheology)influences the buildings ***,the buildings made from cement are more easily fractured than buildings made from clay *** analysis of fracture planes reveals that the geotechnical risk associated with buildings fracturation propagates in NW-SE,corresponding to the major directions of risk propagation,mainly dipping in northwest sectors(zones)of the Agadez *** interpretation of geological and geophysical data combined to those obtained in the case of this study,reveals that the risk associated with buildings fracturation in Agadez city is caused by geological seismic events and or anthropogenic activities(explosive firing on the uranium mining sites like Somaïr and Cominak).

日益严重的环境污染问题及其对社会的不利影响,也影响了国有企业对生态创新和制度环境机制的依赖性,对实现国家和全球的可持续发展造成影响。因此,本研究探讨了贝宁共和国的政府机构支持、政府监管质量和创新行为对生态创新的影响。论文有助于深入了解一个国家的制度环境,尤其是政府机构支持和监管质量对生态创新采用和国家可持续性目标实现的影响。论文采用多元线性回归分析,搜集位于贝宁南部国有企业的横截数据。实证分析结果表明,政府制度支持对生态创新具有积极作用。此外,本研究发现监管质量和创新行为对政府制度支持与生态创新有正向促进作用。基于以上结果,政府和高污染行业应该合作在推进生态创新,政府给予适当政策支持、制定计划和法规引导创新主体的行为,进而实现国家生态创新目标。此外,污染行业资源采取生态创新行动是重中之重。相关政策建议阐明了贝宁政府如何在制定和修改相应的制度支持和法规政策作出努力,进而通过生态创新实现其国家环境可持续性目标。本研究丰富了欠发达国家的政府制度支持、监管质量和创新行为等因素对生态创新的影响机制的研究,尤其是在西非的贝宁。

Influencing Factors for Social Acceptance of Noma (Cancrum Oris) Patients in Niger: A Hospital-Based Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Noma, mostly identified in malnourished young children in the world’s low-income countries, causes severe orofacial disfigurement and significant mortality and morbidity. The majority of noma patients surviving with aesthetical effects are exposed to stigmatization and social rejection. Studies focusing on the socio-psychological impact of noma survivors have rarely been done. Our study aimed to identify the differences in social acceptance/rejection and the influencing factors associated with social acceptance in noma patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the NGO-Sentinelles (Niger) reception center on patients with noma from Zinder, Maradi, and Tahoua regions between 9th May 2017 and 2nd June 2017. The survey was conducted through a face-to-face interview on patients admitted to the center and those discharged from the centre after the treatment. The interview questionnaire comprised 45 questions (Cronbach’s alpha coefficient = 0.812) with pathological information, sociodemographic characteristics, and socio-psychological qualitative information. Findings: We recorded 50 noma patients (43 from Zinder and 7 from Maradi and Tahoua). The younger patients (1 - 5 years old), noma patients who stayed in school during follow-up treatment, patients who were referred by a health structure, patients enrolled into the centre in a short time (2 = 45.536, (P < 0.001)] and acceptance of their new faces [P = 0.023], between the social acceptance and social rejection rate, therefore all patients who accepted their new faces felt social a

Introduction: Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD) is a mental disorder characterized by an obsessive focus on a perceived defect in appearance. This disorder can be dangerous or life-threatening. Hence, there is the need for special attention. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD) and to identify the factors associated with it. Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study that took place from December 2020 to October 2021, with a census of all medical students enrolled at the University of Parakou for the 2020-2021 academic year and who volunteered to participate. DSM 5 diagnostic criteria were used to assess BDD, and the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale Modified for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD-YBOCS) was used to assess its severity. Results: A total of 669 people were included in the study. The prevalence of probable cases of BDD was 10.31%. Gender (female) (OR = 2.49;IC 95%: [1.45 - 4.26];p < 0.001), trauma with cosmetic sequelae (OR = 2.95;IC 95%: [1.27 - 6.91];p = 0.012), depressive disorders (OR = 2.4;IC 95%: [1.12 - 5.15];p = 0.025), mockery/teasing or negative comments about physique (OR = 3.54;IC 95%: [2.06 - 6.12];p < 0.001), a succession of sentimental disappointments (OR = 2.89;IC 95%: [1.33 - 6.30];p = 0.008), and the importance attached to physical appearance (OR = 0.5;IC 95%: [0.31 - 0.82];p = 0.005) are associated with BDD. Its consequences are serious, with an altered quality of life that can lead to dropping out of school and suicidal ideation or behavior. Conclusion: Although little studied and little diagnosed, Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD) is a reality in the student environment of northern Benin. Further studies are needed to more define BDD in the Beninese socio-cultural context.

Contribution to the Mathematical Modeling of COVID-19 in Niger

We are interested in this paper in the modeling and analysis of the disease of COVID-19 applied to the capital of Niger: Niamey. The model we are presenting takes into account the strategy that the country has adopted to fight this pandemic. The spread of the infectious agent within the population is a dynamic phenomenon: the number of the healthy and sick individuals changes over time, depending on the contacts during which the pathogen passes from an infected individual to a healthy individual. We model this propagation phenomenon by a set of differential systems equations and determine its behavior through a numerical resolution.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease deadly. In Africa, little data exists on this condition and the form familial is the most common with a younger age of onset. Our observations relate to three brothers, born from a consanguineous marriage. The diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis was certain placed in all patients according to the criteria of Awaji. The average age of patients was 16.66 years, and the average age of onset of symptoms was 10.33 years old. The female gender was the most represented with a sex ratio of 0.5. Our patients benefited from rilusole, vitamin D and physiotherapy. A only patient presented with dysphagia. However, no cases have been observed at this day.
