Modeling and optimization of induction cooking by the use of magneto-thermal finite element analysis and genetic algorithms

Induction cooking has several advantages compared to traditional heating system; however, to obtain best efficiency, it is essential to have an inductor giving homogeneous temperature on the pan bottom. For this aim, we propose a structure of inductor with four throats containing coils and optimize their distribution. In this paper, first we model magneto-thermal phenomenon of the system by a finite element method （FEM） for the mean to determine the distribution of temperature on the pan bottom by taking the nonlinearity of system. This study shows that a temperature distribution is not homogeneous. Second, with the aim to have homogeneous temperature distribution on the pan bottom, the optimal determination of throats distribution and their dimensions is obtained by genetic algorithms （GAs）. The optimized structure permits to satisfy our aim.

The main advantage of induction cooking is the pan heating without thermal inertia. However, to obtain best efficiency, it is essential to have an inductor geometry that gives a homogeneous temperature on the pan bottom. In this paper, we will first model the magneto thermal phenomena of the system by a finite element method (FEM) in order to determine the distribution of temperature on the pan bottom taking into consideration the nonlinearity of the system. This study shows that the temperature is not homogeneously distributed. Then, in the aim to have homogeneous temperature distribution in the pan bottom, we propose an inductor structure with four throats containing the coils and we will use Neural Networks to determine the optimal throats distribution and their dimensions. The optimized structure permits us to achieve our goal.

Coordination of Synergetic Excitation Controller and SVC Damping Controller Using Particle Swarm Optimization

This paper addresses the enhancement of power system stability by simultaneous tuning of synergetic excitation damping controller and SVC (static var compensator)-based damping control/ere. Each machine or generator is considered as a subsystem and its interaction with the remaining part of the system, the SVC inclusive, is modeled as a quadratic function of the active power delivered by the generator. Stable manifold is constructed for each excitation controller and based on that, an effective damping controller is derived. A lead-lag compensator is employed as a supplementary controller for the SVC. PSO (particle swarm optimization) algorithm is effectively utilized to simultaneously tune the parameters for the excitation damping controller(s) and the SVC supplementary controller. The coordination of the controllers effectively dampens the power angle oscillation and regulates the generator terminal voltage when a fault occurs. Simulation results are obtained by using the PAT (power analysis toolbox) for a SMIB (single machine infinite bus) system and a two area power system.
